Leo was filled with hope, knowing that there would be a chance for him to become a stronger warrior and make sure he changed his life.
“Master Darwin, if I am not mistaken, you also knew my father, right?” Leo smiled as he looked at Darwin. He wanted to learn more about his family before his training began. Darwin looked at Leo, the sad young man he had seen a few minutes ago had vanished, and he was looking at a boy who had hope, and he was going to do anything to make sure that he didn't fall back into depression. “Yes, I knew your father, he was one of the funniest fellows I met. He had a temper, a very nasty one, but when we got to talk to him, it was clear that he was a good guy. But even before we found out that he was a good guy, your mother would always be the one to knock some sense into him.” Darwin smiled as he was telling Leo about his parents. It was a clear sign that he had enjoyed his time with his old companions. Something that would always comfort him. Leo could see that Darwin was happy as he remembered his time with his mother and father when they were still adventurers. “So you were all part of a guild? I wonder what that was like.” Leo looked down, trying to picture his mother as a fighter. It was not clear to him how Abigail was someone that would be able to fight anyone. She was the calm and collected one, she never looked or acted violently. “But she never acted like she could do anything or hurt anyone, she was the calmest person I knew.” Leo looked at Darwin. He was not going to believe that his mother was able to make someone feel scared or anything like that. She was the nicest and calmest person he knew. Darwin burst out into laughter, he was laughing so hard that it was a bit hard for him to stop, he knew there was no way he would be stopped anytime soon. It would be hard, but he would explain why he was laughing like that. “Your mother, during the years before she became a full Druid Priestess, was the wildest of us all. She was the one that would dive in head first into the problems and still come let us know when the problem was a problem.” “She was so strong and unruly that she could clear dungeons alone, it was a feat that I found both scary and useful.” Darwin looked happy talking about Abigail like that, it seemed refreshing to him and there was something that he didn’t know how to even explain to Leo. “Your mother may have been one of the reasons why I didn’t look at ladies the same way again, but she has one of the kindest hearts I have ever seen.” Leo was happy to hear that his mother was a kind woman even from the start. He had many things to ask them, but it seemed like he was not going to find it easy to ask them all there at once. Leo then remembered that he had to get stronger to make sure that there was no way he would be running like he did when his mother was in danger. “Tell me, if we break the seal, how strong do you think I can get?” Leo looked at Darwin, his question made the warrior in front of him go silent. He was not expecting Leo to ask him something like that. It was all of a sudden, but it was like he wanted to start his training immediately. Darwin looked at Leo, he knew that if he didn't say anything then it would make the boy come up with more questions. “I want to ask you this first, do you know all the cores and elemental affinities that a warrior in Ivandale should have?” Leo was puzzled, he didn't know why Darwin would ask him a question like that. It was a way for him to cover up what he was asking. “I know there are four mana cores and seven elemental affinities, the white mana core.” “You are wrong,” Darwin cut Leo off. He was looking at the boy with a smile on his face, and Leo looked at him confused. “But that is what my mom told me. I don't know what you are trying to say here, but there is no way there is anything she left out.” Leo was looking at Darwin, he wanted to know what was going on with Darwin’s response. “I know those are the basic things your mother taught you, but that is what they teach everyone. You see the five basic elements are fire, earth, water, wind, and lightning. All of them go to anyone born to their condition, that is for us humans, while the elves and dwarves blessed by mana have the chance to be born with elements that resonate their lineage.” “The dwarves and their connection to the crafts make them known as earth elementals. Elves, on the other hand, have elements like wind, earth, and lighting to choose from. But then elements like ice and sound are arcane elements that only one out of five people born can control at will. That falls under the category of the Dwarves and Elves. If a human can control either Sound or Ice then that human has powers that might be scary.” Darwin looked at Leo to see him paying attention. He saw that the boy was eager to learn, and it was not going to be easy telling him not to. “Now you were taught that there are seven elements, but in reality, there are other elements like light, Gravity, and void, and more that you know nothing about. These elements are not just attained by anyone, you have to reach the last core by any random person. Although there are elements that come from those, those can only be obtained by dual and tri elementals.” Darwin looked at Leo, he saw that the boy was a bit confused when he was trying to tell him all those things, but who wouldn’t be? There were not many things Leo didn't know. “Now Mana Cores, I know you were told that there were four mana cores, the White mana core, the Blue mana Core, the Red Mana Core, and the Golden Mana Core. But there are five mana cores.” Darwin noticed the look on Leo’s face. He knew that he was giving the boy too much information, but he was going to have to learn about all those things before he was going to be prepared for battle. “You see, there are components to each mana core making it the being's job to break through each core. The White Core has three stages; the start, the enhanced, and the mastered. The start is essentially what all beings are born with, it is what allows us to feel the mana around us. The enhanced white core is what gives us our strength, speed and agility. You are on your enhanced white core, but unlike some, yours has some inhuman abilities for you to be able to kill an Orc Bear. Then there is the mastered white mana core. You get this once you can master your speed and strength. This one gives you the gateway to enter the Blue mana core.” Darwin paused to look at Leo. He was sure that the boy was more confused than anyone he had seen. “You look lost, do you mind telling me what the problem is?” Darwin asked him with a smile. He was looking at Leo, trying to make sure that nothing was going to keep the lad from understanding what he was saying. “I am okay, there are just so many things I didn't know. Please continue, Master Darwin,” Leo looked at Darwin, showing him that he was eager to learn. It was going to be the hardest thing, but if he had plans to break the seal and use his powers to become a formidable warrior, then he had to learn everything about mana. Darwin smiled, he was seeing fire in the boy’s eyes, and he knew that there was no way he would lose anything. “Now there is the Blue Core, which has two components, the light blue core and the dark blue core. The light blue core is where some people stop. It is like the mastered white core but stronger. Once one finds out which elemental affinity he has, the person decides to train the affinity to greater levels. You will get to the dark blue core, which is what most "D" rank and "E" rank warriors use.” “Then there is the red core, which has three components; the Red, the Scarlet, and the Crimson. Most of the beasts like the Orc Bear have this and warriors from the B rank to C rank have the red to scarlet core, allowing them to cultivate even higher. Then the Crimson Core is a core that warriors from “A” rank and “S” rank carry.” Darwin looked at Leo. He was planning to tell him everything he knew about the cores, without holding a detail back. “Then there is the Golden Mana core; this is the only core with one component. It is the one that all SS-ranked warriors and absolute mages use. It is by far the strongest of the four. Then there is the Azure Mana core or, as we call it, the Arcane Core. That is the one that no ordinary being can get. Only highly celestial beings, like Dragons, Fairies, Faes, and other creatures.” Darwin looked at Leo, seeing that he was shocked that there were some things he didn't even know about. “Dragons are real?! How in the world is that possible? I don't even understand what you are trying to say here. I thought that all the dragons were eradicated during the Celestial War?” Leo looked at Darwin. He had been taught that dragons were extinct and there was nothing like that in the world again. “Dragons still roam the earth, but they are hidden deep in Ivandale and for you to see them you will have to reach the highest mana core. This Azure Core has two sides, the jade and the emerald core. These two have elemental affinities that no human can fathom.” Darwin stopped with a smile on his face. He looked at Leo to see that the young lad was still putting everything together. “Is anything bothering you?” Darwin asked, looking at a confused Leo. He was not sure what it was that would keep the boy in that state, but it was clear that there was a chance he was trying to figure something out. Leo scratched his head, he looked at Darwin and was a bit confused. “The Orc Bear is on the Scarlett core, so how was I able to defeat it with an enhanced white mana core?” Darwin smiled when he heard Leo’s question, “You see, it is a clear sign that you have more power than you even imagine, so it will help you out when you are breaking the seals.” Leo nodded, he was about to speak when he heard the door being opened. He turned to see who it was. A man who bore a close resemblance to Darwin walked through the door with a smile. “Ah, I see he is awake now,” the man said as he walked in. He looked at Leo. He didn't stop smiling, and it was a bit weird for Leo. “He woke up a few hours ago, he had a lot of questions and I have been having a hard time answering them.” Darwin smiled as he stood up, “Leo, this is Varrick, my elder brother.” Leo sprang up after learning the man's identity, “It is an honour to meet you, I have been wanting to ask if you were going to come back.” “Yes, he is back. So, brother, you’re back a bit early, is there a chance you learned something about the Druid seals?” Darwin looked at his brother, he was trying to find out what it was he had learned from his journey, but with the look on his face, it was clear that he knew something. “Is there something wrong? Do you have good news or bad news?” Varrick smiled, he looked at Leo before turning to his brother. “Well, it is nice to finally see you awake Leo, and yes, I have news Darwin. It turns out he can break the seal through training, but for him to break one and get to the Blue core it will take him two years.” “Two years!? But I want to become an adventurer as soon as possible. Is there no way to bypass it?” Leo chimed in, not letting Darwin speak. Varrick looked at him with a smile on his face. Varrick took a deep breath before saying a thing, “Well, that's the bad news. If you attempt to break it without going through the main training, your core will explode, and you will die.”“What do you mean by explode? There has to be an explanation for this, there is no way he is going to explode!” Darwin was looking at Varrick. He was a bit confused on hearing that Leo was going to explode if he tried to break the seal without training. “It means the seal that Abigail put on him is even stronger than a grade five scarlet core seal. For some reason, she wanted to make sure that he was not going to find it easy breaking the seal.” Varrick was looking at Leo. The boy was going to have a hard time thinking about breaking the seals, and it was going to be the hardest thing he could imagine doing. “You mean Abigail used that kind of spell on her son? But what was her reason for even putting it on him? I know that there were people after her, but then that means that there has to be something else she didn't drop in that message.” Darwin was not going to be thinking of what he was going to be doing that quickly. He had promised Leo that he would train him to break the se
The three stepped outside for the match to begin. Leo looked around and saw that they were deep in the heart of the forest and there were critters around there. Leo could feel the mana in the area, he saw that everywhere was filled with magic, and it was clear that there was a huge amount of mana there. “There is a huge amount of mana in the area, so I guess that all this is at the white mana core, right?” Leo looked at his master, he was waiting for Darwin to tell him that he was right. “Well no, the area is filled with Light Blue Mana Core.” He paused to see a defeated look on Leo's face. “Don't feel bad that you didn't get it right, it's not the end of the world. They feel like white mana cores and act like it, but that's one perk of the Heio forests; they don't usually give off what they are. You see, that way there is no one trying to cultivate the entire area for themselves.” Darwin paused when they had reached a particular area, “This is a good spot, it has all the space we
Darwin and Varrick were looking at Leo, they were shocked to see that the boy was still cultivating mana like it was something he would do normally. “This is pretty scary, how in the world was he able to break through the first seal and reach his dark blue mana core like this? This is something that needs to be studied.” Varrick was looking at Leo, he was emitting energy that only people who were strong warriors would have. Darwin laughed when he saw what Leo was doing without even being aware. “I don't know about you but all I see is a warrior that is ready to dance with me, I want to see what he can do,” Darwin said looking at Varrick, he was ready to face Leo in the sparring match. “You better be careful, for all we know, this boy doesn't even know his strength. There is something about his abilities that is still not settling right with me.” Varrick was looking at Leo, he didn't want his brother to lose his life all because of a foolish game he was going to be playing. “Don't
It had been four months since Leo had gone to Heio and discovered that he had a seal in his body. He had begun training with Darwin and Varrick to ensure that he broke the remaining two seals on him. It had taken two months for Leo to reach the intermediate sword master level and it was not easy for him but there was no way he would be seen as a normal warrior after what he and Darwin had been through the last four months. Both of them were sparring outside, the air was filled with the sound of their clashing blades. It was a hell of a spar, Leo had improved to the extent that he could push Darwin back to the wall. “You're getting better at wielding your sword Leo, I know in three months you will be a full-on sword warrior and nothing is going to be stopping you,” Darwin said as he tried to land a blow on Leo, but with everything he tried, Leo would react with a faster and stronger defence. “You keep saying that to boost my freaking ego, knowing it might be working. I will get to
Leo and Darwin walked back to the treehouse, and they walked into Varrick making a potion. He was deep in concentration and everything seemed to be glowing. Varrick was trying to find a way to make sure that they broke the remaining two seals and unlock Leo's affinity, but in everything he had checked, there was nothing he found that was going to help him. ‘He is a Dragonborn and I don’t know the first thing about Dragonborns and their affinity. Only the heavens know how long it’s going to take to bring it out.” Varrick was lost in his thoughts, he didn’t know what the outcome of the entire research was. “You look busy,” Darwin said as he looked around trying to make sure that he wouldn’t tip anything over. Varrick snapped out of the daze and quickly put a smile on his face. He wanted to make sure that there was no sign of worry on him. “You’re back early, so who won this time?” Varrick asked, still with the smile on his face and looking at the two as they walked in. “The kid tho
Leo felt like the night won’t end. His thoughts roamed around. He was excited but scared about the dungeon raid. “What if Darwin’s plan fails? Would I be able to unlock the seal to reach my affinity?” Doubts crossed his mind but he was determined to achieve his goal. The stars disappeared and the sun began to rise. Leo did not get an ounce of sleep. “Are those eye bags?” Darwin asked, staring into Leo’s eyes. Leo staggered towards Darwin and pricked a smile. “Little eye bags. Anxiety got the better of me,” he yawned, cleaning his eyes with his palms. Darwin gently tapped Leo. “Don’t worry, you got this,” he motivated, smiling brightly. Leo smirked, cracking his fingers. “Yes, Master Darwin. Let’s go!” he exclaimed, excited. Darwin and Leo began their journey to the dungeon. They make their way out of Heio forest to the deep cluster of dungeons. The excitement was written all over Leo’s face. Darwin knew that he had to do all it takes to help Leo unlock his affinity. “About
Leo was aggravated. The sight of the people who killed his mom, made his blood boil. “…YOU WILL PAY!” he exclaimed. A cold, airy aura started flaring from his body. His eyes turned red and he began to growl. “What’s going on?” one of them asked. “Lando: Wind blade,” he said, as a gust of wind in form of a sword was directed towards Leo. Leo skipped through the attack, suddenly appearing in front of the man. “Spa-” “Too slow,” Leo interrupted, stabbing him in his left abdomen. “They did not tell us he was this strong,” said another of the men, as he moved backwards. Leo’s attention shifted towards them. He shuffled quickly, reappearing in front of the second man. “Flare: Gunshot,” Leo released a spike of fire from the tip of his sword, which passed through the chest of the second man. Leo unconsciously brought down two men in an instant. The anger within him made his mana sip out of his sealed orb. “LEO!” Darwin screamed. “Back to earth, Leo.” Darwin’s attention was all o
Darwin was bedridden for 3 days while Leo took care of him. “When will you wake up?” Leo murmured as he sat on a chair facing Darwin, staring at him. Leo sighed, as he made an attempt to stand up. “And where do you think you’re going?” Darwin spoke, his voice chopped. Leo’s eyes began to tear up. He was filled with joy but at the same time, relief. “I thought that you won’t wake up,” he said, drawing his nose. Darwin chuckled. “What do you take me for? I’ve gone through worse,” he said, sitting up right on the bed. The towel fell from his face and Leo placed it in a bucket. “I know but still. I won’t be able to live knowing that a lot of people have died protecting me,” he said. “You don’t have to feel that way,” Darwin replied. “Something this small can’t kill me.” Leo smiled warmly, as he stared at Darwin. “What’s taking so lo-” Varrick said, but he took a pause after seeing Darwin awake. “I can see that you’re finally awake, after taking a very lon
After dinner, Jason reminded Leo of how upset Anaya was yesterday and thought it would be best to apologize to her sincerely tomorrow. Leo knew that Anaya wouldn't forgive so easily and wondered what would be the best way to apologize. Sydney advised the boys that if they really wanted her forgiveness, they needed to do something incredibly thoughtful and sweet, like baking a cake. They loved the idea, but the only problem was they didn't know the first thing about baking.Sydney sighed at their ability to fight beasts and conjure up magnificent things, yet they couldn't do something as simple as baking a cake. She rolled her eyes, wondering how Varrick Darwin or Alex couldn't teach them such basic skills, but then again, how could they teach what they had no knowledge of? She agreed to help them out, and they stayed up all night just to prepare it.The boys always found a way to mess up the cake in the blink of an eye. Sydney was even afraid to blink, worried they would add too much
Anaya walked into an ancient building filled with cracks of time and layers of heritage. She entered her coldly colored room, took off her uniform, freshened up, and placed the white book on her study table, ready to analyze it as she had done for the past few days. While engrossed in the letters that only she seemed able to see, Anaya once again found herself puzzled by the book's secrets and enchantments.A figure slowly emerged from her slightly ajar white wooden door."Anaya, darling..."Anaya turned to see a woman in her late seventies with beautiful long white hair and wrinkles that spoke of a life well-lived. She smiled brightly as the woman walked in."Are you back from school?""Yes, Ma. I'm back," Anaya replied."How was it? How are your friends?" her grandmother asked."They're fine, Ma. Everything's fine," Anaya answered simply."I'm sure my darling Anaya is so popular and has lots of friends. Do you want food? I'll make it," her grandmother offered."No, Ma. You've been o
Leo, Jason, and Anaya made their way to the detention room with sad and solemn expressions, taking measured steps toward three hours of boredom and annoyance."Can't you just make the Dean fall asleep again?" Leo asked hopefully."And what will we do about Derek?" Anaya countered."Can't you use a sleep spell on him too?" Jason suggested."Believe me, I've tried, but he has some super strong force field on his mind," Anaya replied, frustration creeping into her voice."Is it impossible to break?" Leo asked, curious about the kind of magic required for such a spell."Yeah, if you're an amateur. But don't worry, I'll deal with it soon enough," she said confidently. They stood by the door, hesitating between staying or running back home. The Dean walked by, spotting them instantly. He quickly pulled out a wand from his pocket, pointed it at them, and yelled,"What are you three still doing there? Time for detention!"They sighed and groaned, lowering their heads as they shuffled into the
---When detention rolled around and the four students sat quietly as the Dean watched them closely. Anaya and Jason hadn’t spoken a single word since Leo left them earlier, and their silence made him rather uneasy.Derek, being his usual self, tried to get Anaya’s attention as much as humanity would allow, but his efforts were anything but fruitful. The moment the clock struck five, Anaya left without sparing them a glance. Jason let out a sigh and placed his books in his bag. The Dean told them to leave as soon as possible so the workers could clean in peace. Derek picked up his bag and sneered at them before leaving with the Dean.Leo and Jason stood on the steps in front of the school's main gate, only to realize their carriage wasn’t there. They glanced at the row of fly cycles parked nearby and remembered Varrick’s words: They needed to start traveling on their own; the school run was over.Jason sat on the stairs, not in the mood to ride home just yet. Leo joined him and sugges
Leo got home with a solemn expression on his face. He had barely eaten his dinner and didn’t even flash his famous smile. Anytime Darwin, Varrick, or Sydney asked about school, he would only give one-word answers, which was unlike him. Darwin and Varrick assumed it was just the stress of school getting to him, so they didn’t press further. They were certain Leo couldn’t have been bullied—he was stronger than most of his peers and knew exactly when to fight and when not to. Sydney, on the other hand, thought otherwise and decided to speak with him after dinner. The night grew quiet once dinner was over. Darwin and Varrick, exhausted from running around Ivandale with Alex, quickly lay down to rest. The only sounds that filled the air were the night critters and animals, adding to the soothing sounds that come with the night.Leo had already snuggled under his covers, and the oil lamp was about to be blown out when two light taps came at his door. Instinctively, he said, “Come in.” Sydne
"I'll be back," Leo assured his friends, getting up to follow Sylvia. They moved to a quiet corner, and Sylvia struggled to get her words out."Why..." she began but trailed off, her mouth opening and closing with hesitation."Why are you hanging out with her?" she finally managed to ask."Who?" Leo asked, confused.Sylvia, too ashamed to clarify, looked away. Leo followed her gaze, his confusion growing when he realized who she meant."Anaya? She’s my friend. And if you really think about it, she’s the reason I’m in this school to begin with. Besides, I’m hanging out with Jason too," he explained, trying to clear up any misunderstanding."Please... please stop hanging out with her," she stammered, still avoiding his eyes."Why?""Because you can’t." Sylvia slapped a hand over her mouth, shocked by her own outburst. Her face flushed as she noticed the curious stares from nearby students."You don’t have a reason?" Leo asked, growing more puzzled by the second."I do! But... I can’t te
"What are you three doing together?..." the Dean echoed, grabbing Derek by the collar. They immediately dispersed and took their assigned seats. The Dean shook his head, too tired to even nag."You have a new inmate," he said, emphasizing the word inmate so sadistically it felt like they were in some inescapable prison—as if they wouldn’t leave in the next two hours and be tortured for his entertainment. He casually shoved Derek forward and pointed to a seat."Take a seat and be quiet..." he snapped. "Taking out a book or two wouldn’t hurt either," he added taking his sat at the table right in front of the class. As he took a sip of his coffee, Anaya stared at him intently and unwaveringly. The boys noticed this and became increasingly curious. After mere seconds The Dean yawned for a moment before completely passing out.Anaya couldn’t help but feel annoyed at how long it had taken her to perform a simple spell and make the man fall asleep. She silently promised herself to get better
---"Hello," she said with a smile."Hi?" they replied, clearly unnerved by her sudden friendliness."Candy?" she asked, offering a variety of sweets in her palm."Yes, please!" Leo exclaimed, eagerly taking one. Jason followed suit, unwrapping his piece and popping it into his mouth."It's poisoned," she stated with the straightest face.Their eyes widened in panic as they stared at her."I'm kidding," she said, laughing hard. "Goodness, you two are so gullible."Leo scoffed. "That's not funny.""You have to admit, it's a little funny. You should’ve seen your faces," she added, laughing even harder. This was the first time they’d ever heard her laugh, and it was so infectious that they couldn’t help but laugh along with her. It was impossible to stay mad."Did you find anything new in the book?" Leo asked, grabbing another "poisoned" candy."Not much," she admitted. "I found a few strange codes and some vague riddles.""Like what?" Jason asked curiously.Anaya opened her mouth to exp
---"Detention?!" Darwin and Alex shouted simultaneously, causing everyone to jerk in fear."Sorry, Father," Jason muttered, looking down at his feet. This was the first time his father had ever been called to school for bad behavior. None of them thought they’d be back in the student affairs office anytime soon, much less for something like this.“Finally…” Alex and Darwin whispered with sly grins spreading across their faces.Leo and Jason glanced at each other, a playful smile tugging at their lips. The shift in energy wasn’t lost on anyone. The boys' words caused an unsettling silence to descend upon the room. Alex and Darwin noticed the mix of disappointment, anger, and annoyance on the woman’s face and quickly backtracked.“I mean—bad. Very bad,” Alex corrected, coughing lightly to mask his awkwardness. Finally, they took their seats, all three teenagers sitting across from Miss Willowwan.“They were caught coming late to class, and I heard rumors they came from the stables doin
