Chapter 216

“Elijah,” she whispered across his lip.

“What?” He stopped, pulling away.

“We can't do this. We shouldn't do this.” She shook her head.

“Why?”

“Kiss me,” she said in the next breath.

He obliged, crashing his mouth on hers. They kissed passionately, pouring in the frustrations of a break in contact of the last few months into the kiss.

“Hey Elijah, can I—”

The nurse stopped dead in her tracks when she came in contact with the lovers kissing.

Winnie quickly pulled away from him. Grabbing her purse that had fallen on the ground, she turned and ran out.

“Winnie, wait!” He called at the top of his voice, running after her.

“No, and please! Stay away.”

“Could we just talk? You don't have to run away.”

“Well, I have to go. I have work to do. Let's continue staying away from each other. Goodbye Elijah!” She slammed her car door shut and turned it around.

“Winnie!” He called, but her windows went up next as she threw her face to the side.

He sighed in defeat as he watched her drive away.
