Michael felt like his heart was being weighed down by a heavy anvil as he left the building of Robert and co.
He knew his marriage was over but he still found it hard to believe. Just like that? Had she never even loved him once? And all of those words she said to him, did she mean any of it?
He always loved his wife, whatever assistant she needed, he was willing to do it for. His wife, being the one that worked, Michael decided to be more helpful around the house. He'd make dinner before she got home from work and made sure she always had clean laundry.
Never for once did he complain about living like that. In fact, he loved it! As long as his wife was by his side.
He didn't even realize that someone had been calling out to him until the man tapped his shoulder. "Mr West!" The man exclaimed one last time.
"Huh?" Michael woke up from his thoughts at the touch of the man. "Mr Brian, what are you doing here?" He asked when he finally acknowledged the man.
Mr Thom Brian was the CEO of international corp in Beaumont city. Everyone was dying to partner with him and Clara had managed to score herself a shot all thanks to Michael--unknown to her though.
"Is everything alright? I had been calling you since I saw you leave the elevator. I'm here to see your wife, I've only partnered with her a while ago and I've come to sign some papers." Mr Brian explained.
"I don't think she'll be needing our help anymore. Clara already has that King kid for a backbone plus she divorced me today."
Mr Brian's eyes widened at the words that left Michael's mouth. His ears found it hard to believe. "What? But this is so unlike her! Would you like me to talk to her?"
"That won't be necessary. Clara and I are over and she wishes to never see me anymore. I think I'd like to keep it that way." Michael remarked. "To her, money and power is forever greater than love."
Mr Brian let a frown take over his face for a moment before speaking up. "I have news for you too. I found the special breed of ashwagandha you've been looking for. Apparently thriving in a field in the home of the Donalds." He explained as they walked together towards Mr Brian's car. "But Mr Donald cares exceptionally for these plants and won't let go of the littlest possible."
"And you have found a way around that?"
"His daughter, Isabella, came down with a serious illness years back and no doctor could cure her. If you can save her from it then he'll let you into his garden to pick as much as you need and more."
A weak smile curved on Michael's face. He needed the plant to add to the others he already had and there was no sickness he couldn't cure. "Let's get going then."
"Mr Brian!"
A voice stopped them both as they were about to enter the car. A disgusted look crawled up on Mr Brian's face as he saw
Steven, Clara's brother approaching them.
"My good man, have you already finished the meeting with my sister? What are you doing with this--"
Steven was cut off as Mr Brian went ahead and got into his car.
Michael stared at
Steven with an unreadable expression on his face before entering the car and before
Steven could even try to talk again, drove off, leaving him with nothing but their dust.
Steven was confused, "what the hell?" He asked himself. His feelings told him something was not right and he immediately rushed into the building--with his mother who was standing by the door--to see his sister.
Meanwhile,
Clara paced about in her office. She ought to have gotten a call by now from Mr Brian about their final contract to sign together.
Countless times, she had decided on calling him but the man never gave her a fixed time so she'd hold back.
Her secretary did all she could to calm her, offering a cup of warm tea to help lessen the tension in her.
The door to her office flung open and a gasp left her mouth. As she sighted her brother, a frown sat on her face. "Do you not know what knocking is? Or at least be gentle with the door!" She growled from the tension in her.
"Have you spoken with Mr Brian already? Your brother and I saw him leaving just now." Mrs Robert , Clara's mother said.
"Leaving?!' Clara's eyes grew wide in surprise. "Why would he leave? We haven't even talked yet? Did you say anything to him?" She faced her brother.
"What the fuck? He didn't even let me speak!"
Steven barked.
Clara panicked as she dialed Mr Brian number and her other hand raised to her mouth, her teeth biting on her nails nervously.
"It better not be what I'm thinking."
Steven said and Clara immediately shushed him.
Mr Brian answered her call to her relief and she barked into the receiver. "Mr Brian! I just heard of your departure, is--is there a problem?"
Her mother and brother shrouded around her as they waited impatiently for a reply. They both stood so close to her like they wanted to hear directly from the phone what Mr Brian was saying.
"What?" Her eyes widened. "Is there... Is there a problem? I thought everything was fine just yesterday!"
Mr Brian let out a sigh. "I misjudged you, Ms Robert , you are far from the woman I had imagined you to be and I'm sorry but I cannot work with you any longer."
Before she could speak another word into the receiver, Mr Brian hit the red button and the call was cut off.
"He--hello--hello?" Her face fell pale immediately.
"What is it?!" Her mother demanded.
"He called it off."
Her words shock both her mother and brother almost off their feet. "I knew it!"
Steven barked and they both looked at him. "That bastard must have said something to him."
Confusion played on Clara's face. "What? Who?"
"That son of a bitch! Your fucking ex husband that's who!"
"Ash?"
"Yes, him! I saw him with Mr Brian and I rushed over to them. I was quite confused as to why Mr Brian would slam the door of his car in my face and I suspected something was up when Michael got in the car too!" He explained to his sister.
"Yes!" Her mother added. "I saw it with my own eyes too! I took it that your brother had offended Mr Brian but I should have known it when Michael was with him."
"That can't be, Michael would never do something like that." Clara didn't want to believe it but her mother growled at her.
She thought to herself, there was no problem before but now he suddenly called off the contract after she divorced Michael and they were seen together!
Michael knew most of her family secrets since they were married for years so he must have said something. She couldn't believe it.
Her face scrunched into an ugly frown. She must have misjudged him after all.
Silence and a smooth ride down the road was enough to clear Michael's head and put him to sleep. Plus, the tiredness from staying awake all night to tend to his wife's laundry and other chores. A sudden vibration in his pocket yanked him out of dreamland and he sourced it out. It had been his phone ringing. An empty look took over his face as he stared at the name on the screen. My forever half. He ought to change it or probably delete her number even. "Hello?" He spoke calmly into the phone. "I can't believe how low you would go just to get back at me." Clara said icily. "Why would you do that to me?" She questioned angrily. "I don't understand what you're talking about." She gritted her teeth as anger boiled her blood like a pot of soup on a hot stove, causing it to bubble. "Are you with Mr Brian right now?" She managed the words as calmly as she could which was far from calm."I am." Her scoff sounded in his ear. "You really let me down, for a man who talked on about how he
Michael took a step forward towards Isabella's bed and placed a hand on her forehead. Then he lifted his hand and placed it on her throat. "Hmm, it's hard for you to breathe isn't it?" She nodded her head."Can you swallow for me?" He asked with an arched brow. She tried to swallow her own saliva but choked. Her eyes fell shut for a second as the pain stung her."Inflammatory." He muttered to himself with a concerned look in his eyes. He turned to look at her father who stood worriedly a few feet away from him. "Her throat has been inflamed so she has a severe sore throat. All these side effects are ones you must have noted yourself while you take the tea." His eyes trailed back to Isabella."Nonsense!" Mia barked. She shoved Michael with all her might, sending him stumbling backwards. "This man is a con! If she's sick because of the tea then why am I as healthy as I am when I drink it too , even in larger quantities than she does?!" She growled at him. "You have a stronger immune
"And how long do you plan on staring instead of treating her?" Mia spat out arrogantly. She had noticed how Michael had been taking peaks at Isabella's naked body and if it weren't for the fact that she was willing to remain calm until her friend was healed, she would have poked his eyes right out of their sockets. Michael let out a soft laughter. "Ms. Donald is remarkably beautiful, I apologize for staring but there was no way one could hold himself from taking as much as a glance at a beautiful flower." His words caught her by surprise. Why would he apologize for what he did when most men would out rightly deny ever doing it in the first place. A strange man he was, or so she found him. Even though he had proved to be a better fighter then she, she would never still respect him or show any sign of remorse for giving him a nosebleed unless he was truly able to cure Isabella. "Do you think... Acupuncture can heal me?" Isabella asked him. "I know it can. I'll have to mix up a con
A Lamborghini Urus drove to the front of the Donald's apartment as Michael left the front door. The car stopped in front of them and that was when he noticed that Mia had left them for a moment. She came out of the car and opened the door. Michael turned around to look at Isabella who was standing next to him. She too had come to a stop as her eyes met with the confused look on his face. Her lips curved into a gentle smile. "I would like to show my gratitude in full if you would allow me." "And what exactly do you have in mind?" Michael raised a curious brow. "Allow Mia to drop you at your home. Where do you stay?" Michael felt a little ashamed to admit it but he didn't have any home in the whole of Beaumont city. With his divorce from his wife, he had nowhere to return to at the end of the day. "I don't... I don't have a place." "Oh..." She muttered. She gave him a gentle smile. "So where were you going?" "I was going to find a hotel nearby to stay for a while." "Then you're
A disgusted look played on Isabella's face as she heard the words from Steven's mouth. The way his eyes looked her up and down gave her an eerie feeling as he licked his lower lips.A smile curved on Steven's face as he looked down at her. Judging from the mini skirt and shirt she had on, the only job he found befitting to her was room attendant. He needed no one to tell him how difficult it must be to get a job at sky castle hotel so he figured she must have laid down her body to get the job.He took out his wallet and forced a few hundred dollars into her hands. "Your time's not now baby girl, just wait and let me finish up with that bloody bastard." Isabella frowned. What the hell did he take her for? She threw his money back at him as rage filled her up. "What exactly do you think you are doing? Mr West is a good friend of mine and I advise you to withdraw before I ask you to be thrown out." Her tone was as cold and deadly as sharp icicles. Michael was completely silent still
The drive from Michael's penthouse apartment down to the villa where old grandpa Robert lived was a shorter distance than he had predicted it to be. Michael got down from the taxi and paid the driver with both cash and a kind smile. As he strode down to the entrance, he was surprised to see Clara's mother, Diana, pacing about at the entrance. Her eyes sparked as she saw him, and she hurried to him with her high heels, calling attention as she walked towards him. The knee-length black dress she had on moved upward, revealing her thighs as she walked. The look on her face wasn't that of someone who was pleased. Michael stood with a plain expression on his face. His clothes were as simple as they had always been; he tucked his hand into the pocket of his jacket and held his head high. "Listen to me," Diana started with a deadly scowl. "I don't know why my father wants to see you, but you better compose yourself in there. Don't go talking like a retarded fool about things you shouldn
With grandpa resting in his bedroom, Diana, Michael, Clara and Steven sat in the living room, eating part of the food grandpa had made.‘I can’t believe you would start seeing another woman already, when the ink on our divorce paper has not dried up yet.’Michael munched on the food that he was eating. He didn’t say anything‘Didn’t you hear what she said? Can’t you answer her question?’‘I didn’t hear a question there.’ Michael said. ‘It was only an accusation.’‘Oh, mister smart ass. You are now playing the semantics game with us, aren’t you.’Michael felt a surge of anger rise to his throat. He felt like expressing himself in front of them but kept his cool. They were on the dining table, sitting a little far off from him.‘I am not playing any games with you. I am only stating the obvious.’ Then he turned to Clara. ‘I gave you my all. I only wanted you to be comfortable but you ended things with us abruptly. I begged but you wouldn’t listen to my pleas. So why are you vexed that S
Clara anxiously looked at the door. she was supposed to have dinner with her mother and brother but none of them had come. The dinner was supposed to have stared one hour ago. Had something happened to her mother and brother? Have they been into an altercation with any police officer? Clara stood up from her chair and walked the full length of her long dining room, slapping her hands on each other as she went. She looked at the time once again and just then, she heard a commotion at the door. it was her mother. Her mother came in a rage. She was speaking angrily to someone on the phone. ‘Mom what is wrong?’ her mother settled her bag on the table in the sitting room and walked to the water dispensing unit to get a drink of water. ‘It is your brother. He will never stop going to that hotel. You remember that the last time, he had an altercation with one of the top executives after he made a pass at his girlfriend. Please speak to your brother.’ Diana said her anger raging over.‘Mom y
As Michael West thought back on that day he noticed that night had settled in over Beaumont City. In the distance he could hear the news coverage of the Heroes' Parade playing on the television. The coverage was showing many troubling events including the arrests of Diana Roberts and Stevens the shocking moment when Liam had jumped to his death from the stadium and the overwhelming chaos that erupted after the truth came out about the Roberts family.Sitting alone in the room drinking a glass of whiskey Michael felt a profound sense of emotional distance and isolation from everything that had happened. He was very surprised when he saw Isabella standing at his door. Her shape was only partially visible because the light was dim and not very bright. They had gone through a really difficult breakup in the past and since then she had moved away to a different place. He hadn't seen her at all for many years so her sudden appearance caught him off guard. To make things even more complicated
They were in a house on the beachfront of Beaumont city. It was a little far from the beach but had fantastic view of the beach and the sea. The sun had risen early, as usual and there were few tourists on the beach.Steven was shocked and raised his hands but felt a surge of anger within him but he didn’t move. Instead he stood where he was. The other men had pulled out their guns too. Liam knew he was outnumbered to pull out his gun, so he appealed for calm.‘Please gentle men; let us be civil about his. The diamond belongs to all of us but we have bigger fish to fry and that is Michael west. Today is the day that we take his down at the Heroes’ Parade. After that, there will be more diamonds and money that our children will never know hunger for the rest of their lives. Let us embrace caution.’There was silence again before the first of the men who pulled out his gun began to laugh out loud. The rest joined him and started laughing. They raised their hands in surrender and put the
Liam returned to his drinking, taking a sip while stealing glances at the game. A moment later, he turned to his friend, he found him looking smugly at his glass of drink.“Talk to me Nel. What’s going on? If it is about the listings, we got in and that should not be a problem.”“It is not about the listing, bro. It is something else. I guess you haven’t heard.”“Heard what?” Liam was signaling the barista for another drink.“Wells is being devalued.”Liam looked at him, saw the seriousness on his face, and waved for the barista to go. Realization hit him and he mumbled.“AB listings was just a cover. The wolves have gathered and want to have a feast.”Nelson nodded and added,“Whatever you do, don’t go face to face with the execs on Wall Street. They will kill your case before you even get a chance to present it.”“What do I do then?”“Be calm, receive the buy-out offer, and look through it carefully to find a way out. It could be an ambiguity in the words or misrepresentation. That
The knock came again, it was on his door. Who would be coming to his house? He had no friends or lovers? And Isabella had stopped speaking with him. Grudgingly, he walked to the door and opened. It was Isabella. Unlatching the locks quickly, he opened wide the door and bade her to come in.‘You are welcome. I am sorry I have been engrossed in a lot of work and didn’t hear the knocking on the door. How have you been?’Michael was not sure why Isabella would suddenly appear at this door without notice. Had something happened to her father? He thought to himselfShe smiled at him and tugged a loose strand of hair behind her ear. He smiled too. They were both standing in the centre of the room, uncertain what to do. Michael suddenly remembered that he had not offered her a seat. He was being a bad host.‘I am very sorry; I should have offered you a seat. Please have a seat.’‘No, its fine. I should be headed out now and allow you to finish up on your work.’‘Not so fast. At least have a d
The officer in charge walked briskly along the corridor. Liam and Steven followed behind staunchly, confident in their steps. The officer knocked on a door. A voice responded from inside.‘Come in.’The officer opened the door and stepped aside for the two men to step inside. Then he stepped outside and closed the door. The office was sparse, except for a few standing cabinets and picture frames on the wall; one was for the president of the country and the other was of the mayor of Beaumont city. There were other picture frames that showed the commissioner receiving awards. The commissioner’s desk stood on the far end on the other side of the room, directly opposite the door. ‘Mr Liam. Good to see you again.’ the man behind the desk stood up and walked over to where Steven and Liam stood. ‘Ah commissioner, it has been a while that we have spoken or seen.’ Liam responded.‘Ah yes.’ The commissioner said. ‘to what do I owe this honour?’‘I am here to an old friend concerning a matter.
Michael returned to the living room. He and Isabella discussed the cost of living crises and what the government should do. Isabella thought to herself, ‘so he heals and is intelligent too. What a good combination.’ She likes his use of words and the way he lays out his point carefully. ‘Let us stop now. Enough of politics and talk. Let us go and have some food.’Isabella laughed, dropped what she was holding on the table and walked with him to the table. The food was in bowls and plates sat in front of ach of the chairs, together with cutlery, the bottle of wine and glasses.Michael drew back her chair for her and allowed her to sit. Then he went over to his side. Opening the bowl, he dished some food for her before dishing for himself. He was telling her about the food and the process it takes to make it. She looked interested and asked questions too. Then they started to eat. The view from the penthouse was breathtaking, covering most of the city. She asked him about his backgroun
Cynthia went out as Michael continued reading the newspaper. Thirty seconds later, the door to the office opened and someone walked in. Michael puts down his newspaper and stands. He has met Mr. Samuel before, when he was set up to be killed by Liam and Clara. This man had come to his aid and saved. Liam and Clara thought that they had killed him but Mr. Samuel came to the ditch, picked him up and sent him to the hospital. ‘Thank you for having me at this odd hour. I know it is past work time and I had to come at this time so that no one will notice my presence here.’‘It is fine my Samuel. Thank you for coming. I also want to thank you for the other time, for saving my life.’‘You and I have been acquainted before. And I thank you that at this time, you have decided to come to my rescue once again.’‘Well, it is a small world. You can be my helper tomorrow.’‘Yea. You are correct.’‘So, donaldation is going through quite a lot but there is nothing that cannot be salvaged. I intend t
Two men walked into a bar and sat down. They ordered drinks and when the waiter had brought them, began to sip their drinks. Intermittently, they would look at their wristwatches and then at the door. Michael was in his office waiting for Abraham and to hear from Luke his Henchman. Abraham was not coming, so he called Luke to come into his office.‘I want to do something. Abraham is not here but I want you to look into the possibility of acquiring more assets into Roberts.’‘But sir, we have tried that and it is not going our way. I know a way we can get to the Roberts family and hit them where they will feel it the most.’Michael adjusted his body. ‘Tell me about it.’‘I am aware of some dealing the Roberts are doing with Amelia’s father, the girl who claims to have your child and sent videos and pictures on the day of the wedding, leading to the calling off of the wedding.’‘Yea, I remember her.’‘I heard from the underground that they were involved in some drug dealings and traffic
Michael walked to his car, parked outside the gate by the curb. The guards would not allow him drive in, maybe as a way of Mr. Donald showing that he was not pleased with him, he didn’t know. However, he didn’t care; all he had on his mind was to get donaldation back on track of being the biggest company and employer in all of Beaumont. He got in his car and drove off into the night. He drove to donaldation headquarters and then to the airport. He has a meeting with Mr. Pearson. Cynthia went to get the report while Michael settles for the meeting. His phone vibrated and it was a text from clara. It read.‘I know you have been busy lately, but please have dinner with me, at the four season hotel. Bills on me.’ He looked at it and laughed. Clara decided to text him today. Something must be up. This lady must be joking, he thought.Isabella watched Michael giving his speech on TV. Their romance had ended a month ago but it seemed like yesterday when she met him and fell in love with hi
