Chapter 5 MEETING MY NEW COLLEAGUE OR BRIDE

Nicola stared at the strange rich girl in front of him. What contract marriage is she talking about? He only just found out that he is from a rich family and this?

"I don't understand what you are talking about lady. I have never seen you before in my life." Nicola quickly told her.

She was taken aback by his sudden response and confidence. He had his head up, she expected him to be looking down but he was different.

"My grandfather told me I have a contract marriage with a man called Nicola Redgrave so I investigated you." She replied, still checking him up and down.

Nicola also continued to stare at her, still unable to believe all the things he has seen in just one day.

"I expected you to be someone prestigious but I guess I was wrong. I am disappointed that this is the man I will be marrying." She looked him up and down again.

Nicola scoffed, unable to take the rudeness of Anna. "What's wrong with me?"

"Don't get me wrong. You have good looks and physique but that's just it. You are just an ordinary man. I am disappointed, I thought my husband would be a talent." She answered him.

Nicola felt offended. Does she even know that he has just been betrayed by his girlfriend? He got betrayed and even attacked because of this same reason.

He wasn't even in the mood to talk about marriage with another woman, and a stranger at that. He's had enough of relationships for now. He felt awful.

Anna on the other hand was trying to do whatever she could to break the contract. She didn't want to be with a stranger more than his status.

She is ready to say anything to break the contract marriage. She doesn't know about what he has gone through today or if his girlfriend has betrayed him.

"Look, I want a divorce or whatever. Let's break this. I am ready to break this at all costs. I don't care what it will take." She insisted again.

Nicola just stared at her, trying to find the right words to say to the rude and arrogant girl.

"A divorce? Why are you telling me that though? Why not just tell your grandfather you don't want it?" Nicola snapped at her.

She rolled her eyes, "Are you dumb or what? Do you think I'll be here with you if I could ask my grandfather for that favour?"

Nicola shrugged, really offended by her. "I don't know. You could have tried at least. You don't have to lash out at me."

"Tell me what you want. No matter what you want, I'll give you. Money, a house, a good job, whatever you want. Just name it. It's the least I can offer you." She demanded.

She was already tired of talking to him, thinking he is trying whatever to stop her from ending the contract. She wants to end it faster than he thinks.

Nicola sneered, "I don't want anything from you. There's no way I will want to marry an arrogant and impolite girl like you either."

Anna frowned, "What?"

"You only care about yourself and no one. Status is all that matters to you and you speak with so much disdain. I wouldn't want a girl like you as my wife." He added again.

This made Anna angry. She came to insult him but she got insulted instead. What gives a pauper like him the confidence to talk to him like that?

"How dare you speak down on me like that? Who do you think you are?" She fired at him.

He didn't give her the reply she wanted. "The marriage will be cancelled. It must be cancelled."

She scoffed, "What? You're saying it like you suggested it first. It was my idea!"

"I don't care whose idea it is. I will ask my parents to have the marriage cancelled. I don't know how they got to know you..."

"Excuse me?"

"But rest assured, you won't be seeing my face for the rest of your life."

With that said, Nicola walked out on Anna without waiting for a reply. Anna felt so embarrassed. She reached her goal but she was so unhappy about it.

Never in her life did she think that there will be a man who doesn't like her. Even a rich man would have wanted to keep the marriage contract.

“Did he just break up with me when I suggested this first?” She thought in awe.

It's a wonder how a man like him would refuse a girl as beautiful as Anna. Nicola Redgrave just ignored her beauty and wealth which has never happened before.

“This is so embarrassing. I was expecting something else and I met the opposite. I really shouldn't underestimate people.”

Then she heard someone laughing from behind her. She rolled her eyes, the embarrassment creeping in again. Another girl, Liliana who was in the car before came out.

She clapped and laughed at Anna. "Did you just get ignored by an ordinary man? With all the power, beauty and wealth you have?"

"What are you talking about? I came here first! I suggested the divorce. I didn't get ignored." Anna defended.

Liliana nodded, "Of course you did. You are probably not as beautiful as you thought for a man like that to completely ignore you."

Anna felt annoyed that Liliana was laughing at her embarrassment.

"That's not what happened! I think he just got too embarrassed that I cancelled the marriage with him so he said that. Even a poor man has his pride." Anna tried to reason with Liliana.

But Liliana would not stop laughing at her. "To think that you were so rude to him. Did you expect him to beg you after treating him like that?""

Anna did not say anything. She just stared at the direction Nicola went, secretly hoping that he would come back and apologise.

"Just accept it. You are not as attractive as you thought. So he doesn't even care about you one bit." Liliana continued to tease Anna.

Anna scoffed, "Why are you attacking me like that? Get over here!"

Anna ran around the  car trying to chase Liliana while Liliana kept annoying her. Just then, Liliana's phone rang and she stopped running.

It was on her father. She stopped Anna and picked the call. Anna noticed her countenance changed while she was being told something on the phone.

Anna's curiosity piqued. She waited for Liliana to hang up the phone before asking.

"What was that? You don't look happy." Anna asked Liliana.

Liliana heaved a huge sigh, "Of course I wouldn't be. My father just called me and he wants me to work instead of lazing around."

Anna shrugged, "Well... he has a point. But isn't that a good thing?"

"He said I must go to Skyline company to work tomorrow instead of doing nothing everyday. That was so unexpected."

Anna nodded, "It is unexpected indeed but skyline is not a bad company. You wouldn't know unless you tried."

Liliana just kept quiet. She didn't plan to work before and now her father suddenly wants her to work. Can the timing be more wrong?
