Chapter 7: Not Signing

Ivan's heart sank and he even felt as if his heart was pierced with glass shards, it hurts terribly that his face turned ashen and he stiffened. 

He raised his bloodshot eyes to look at Lucy, Lucy was stunned by the look on his face and she shifted uncomfortably on her seat but still maintained that uncaring expression. 

She felt that there was no need for her to be guilty, he should blame it all on his uselessness. She was about to talk when the man beside her stopped her.

"Good afternoon Mr Ivan, my name is Ben and I am Miss Lucy's lawyer, she complained that you've not been taking care of her and you are also an irresponsible Father to your child that he died. She said that you are unable to care for her and that she does not want the marriage any more. Those are the divorce papers as you've read. So, please sign them to avoid unnecessary trouble." Ben finished his speech and looked at Ivan for his response. 

Ivan was dumbfounded at what Ben said.

Miss Lucy? He had even started to address her like a single lady, they must have felt that he does not have a choice but to agree, she complained that he has not been taking care of her?

How was that possible? She does not stay at home and he was left to take care of their child even when he has to go to work so early? How could that be called not taking care?

He had tried his best and he was still blamed?

"When have I not taken care of our son? Where were you when your son was calling for you? Where were you when your son wanted you so much? Where were you when he was in so much pain? Where were you? And now, you are putting the blame on me? You went on a business trip and forgot about your own son and you call me irresponsible? Hahaha, you make me laugh." Ivan declared loudly in agitation.

He had wanted to keep this matter inside him because he felt that Lucy was helpless, but when he heard what she jad said about him, he could not help but flare up.

Lucy was startled at first but she instantly rebuted.

"How is that my fault? I did not go on a business trip to play, I went there to make money to take care of my son since the father could not and now, you blame me? Who do you think you are? I am the one that provides for this family and when my account was frozen by my family because of this reason, I went out to work to get money, but you blame me? Do you think that you are worthy?" She snapped, her eyes glaring at Ivan making his heart ache.

"Mr Ivan, it will be better if you sign this divorce papers and we would forget about this matter. You guys will be able to move on with your life, this marriage is stopping my client from being successful. As it is, it is clear that you are not worthy of her."

Ivan listened to them without reacting, his back looked desolate and lonely, people could not help but feel pity for him but the two people in the room sneered and did not feel anything but disdain.

"Lucy, why now? Our child just died, have you been waiting for him to die before divorcing me or what?" Ivan asked and Lucy's eyes trembled and some guilt flashed pass her beauitiful eyes before she quickly covered it.

"Just sign the papers and stop dawdling around, you are not worthy of me. I was just blinded by love when I decided to marry you against my parents will, but now I have regained my mind, You are a good for nothing Ivan." She said and Ivan suddenly laughed out loud.

His laugh was bleak and hollow, his slump shoulders shook violently and his red eyes became even more bloodshot that you could see the red veins on them. 

He abruptly stopped laughing and sneered with anger.

"Sign this papers? No way." He declared and Lucy got enraged.

"You!!! how dare you?" Her hand shook, a testimony to the anger that she was feeling.

"Mr Ivan, you are making a terrible mistake, you..."

"I said that I will not sign this divorce papers, you can't force me can you?" He said with a smirk. Actually, Ivan was feeling very distraught inwardly, he could still not bear to let go of Lucy.

He had been in love with her for many years before she finally reciprocated and they got married, he could not just let go. He knew that it was selfish of him and that she does not have feelings for him any more but still....

He could not ....let go.

Lucy suddenly laughed in mockery, "You don't want to sign the papers? Do you still think that I am still in love with you or what? Ivan, i have a long way ahead of me and you will never be able to meet up with me, don't make things difficult for yourself."

Ivan was speechless but he was also stubborn.

Lucy and Ben were frustrated, they knew that if Ivan does not agree to sign the papers, there was nothing that they could do. They were about to say something else, when someone entered in a rush.

It was Lucy's assistant, Lana.

Her face was flushed red and her eyes twinkled, it was obvious that she was very happy. She did not seem to notice the tense atmosphere and just walked towards Lucy.

"Good news, good news." Lana said in agitation. Lucy was also surprised because her assistant was a very calm person, so she wondered what happened that made her so agitated.

"The Cartier corporation agreed to invest in our company." Lana said without hiding anything and Lucy opened her mouth wide, her eyes widened like saucer balls.

You must know that Cartier corporation is one of the top corporations in the city, it would definitely be in among the top thirty and was very prestigious. 

Lucy was excited and she raised her head proudly towards Ivan.

"Did you hear that? The Cartier corporation wants to invest in my company, it will only get better from now on and my business will continue to grow. A riff raff like you that does not even have a job, don't you think that you are just yearning after a swan meat? Sign the divorce papers, I can even allow you to stay in this house for a while, considering the fact that we've been together for so long, you can help in the kitchen or be my driver." Lucy said with folded arms.

Ivan gritted his teeth, green veins popped out from his forehead but he still stood by his word.

"I will not sign it."
