The Wilson family living room buzzed with tension. William Wilson paced furiously, his face a deep shade of red. Mary Wilson sat on the couch, arms crossed, her disdain for John radiating off her like heat waves. Amelia, leaning casually against the wall, smirked at him with thinly veiled contempt.

“You’ve done it this time, John!” William roared, slamming a fist onto the coffee table. “The Millenium Group was the cornerstone of this project, and you drove Lucas Miller away with your idiocy!”

John stood his ground, his expression calm despite the onslaught. “Lucas crossed a line, and I acted accordingly.”

Mary scoffed loudly. “Acted accordingly? By ruining this family’s reputation and jeopardizing a multi-million-dollar deal? Who do you think you are?”

“Certainly not someone who lets his wife get humiliated by another man,” John shot back, his voice cold.

“That’s rich coming from a man who can’t even secure a steady income,” Amelia chimed in, her voice dripping with mockery. “Face it, John. You’re a liability. You should’ve apologized to Lucas and begged him to stay. Instead, you’ve dragged all of us down with you.”

John’s fists clenched at his sides, his patience wearing thin. “I won’t apologize to someone who disrespected me and my marriage. And I’m not divorcing Olivia.”

“You don’t have a choice,” William interjected, pointing a trembling finger at him. “If you want to stay in this family, you’ll fix this mess. Apologize to Lucas and convince him to return to the table.”

“I said no,” John replied firmly. “I have another way to secure the project.”

The room fell silent for a moment, the air thick with disbelief. Mary’s lips curled into a sneer. “Another way? Don’t make me laugh. What could you possibly offer?”

“You’ll see,” John said confidently. “Give me ten days, and I’ll deliver results.”

William narrowed his eyes, his fury barely contained. “Ten days? If you fail, you’re out of this family. Do you hear me? Out!”

John met his gaze without flinching. “Deal.”

Later that evening, John sat alone in the den, his mind racing. They think I’m worthless. Even Olivia doubts me. His thoughts lingered on her silence during the confrontation.

Just then, Olivia walked in, her expression unreadable. “Do you really have a plan, or was that just bravado?”

“I have a plan,” John said, though he hadn’t worked out the details yet. “You’ll have to trust me.”

Olivia sighed, crossing her arms. “You’re asking for a lot. If you fail, this family will lose everything.”

“I won’t fail,” John said firmly.

She hesitated, then added, “If you’re wrong, I’ll have no choice but to seek Lucas’s help.”

John’s eyes darkened. “You can’t be serious.”

“John, this is bigger than us,” she said, her voice rising. “It’s about saving my father’s business. If Lucas can help, why shouldn’t I ask him?”

“That man is not your savior, Olivia,” John snapped. “You’re my wife. Do you think I’d let him take credit for fixing this?”

“It’s not about credit!” she shot back. “It’s about fixing the mess you made!”

Before John could respond, Amelia strolled in, her lips twitching with amusement. “Trouble in paradise already? Face it, John. Olivia would rather rely on Lucas than you. He’s got the money and the power to actually make things happen.”

John’s jaw tightened, his frustration boiling over. “Watch your mouth, Amelia.”

“Or what?” she challenged, stepping closer. “You’ll throw another tantrum? Face it—you’re out of your league.”

In a flash, John’s hand struck Amelia’s cheek. The sound of the slap echoed through the room, leaving everyone stunned. Amelia gasped, her hand flying to her reddening cheek.

“Don’t test me,” John warned, his voice low and menacing. “I’ve had enough of your insults.”

Olivia stepped between them, glaring at him. “John! What the hell are you doing?”

“She had it coming,” John said unapologetically. “I’m not going to stand here and let her disrespect me.”

“Violence isn’t the answer,” Olivia snapped, grabbing her purse. “I’m going to meet Lucas. Maybe he’ll actually help fix this mess.”

John froze, her words hitting him like a punch to the gut. “You’re really going to him?”

“He’s the only option left,” she said, brushing past him.

“Where are you meeting him?” John demanded.

“At a café,” Olivia replied curtly before slamming the door behind her.

Suspicious of her intentions, John grabbed his jacket and followed her car from a distance. His chest tightened with every turn she made, doubt and anger warring within him. Why is she so willing to turn to Lucas? Is she hiding something from me?

His heart sank as he watched her car pull into the parking lot of a five-star hotel. She parked, stepped out, and walked inside, her head held high.

John gritted his teeth, his hands gripping the steering wheel. A café? This doesn’t look like a café, Olivia.

Unable to stop himself, he picked up his phone and dialed her number. She answered after a few rings. “What is it, John?”

“Where are you?” he asked, trying to keep his voice steady.

“I told you, I’m meeting Lucas at a café,” she replied, her tone even.

“A café,” John repeated, his suspicion growing. “You’re not at a café. You’re at a hotel.”

There was a pause on the other end before Olivia sighed. “I’m here to meet him. It’s just a private room where we can talk without interruptions. Don’t overthink it.”

“I don’t like this, Olivia,” John said, his frustration bubbling over. “You’re my wife. You shouldn’t be meeting him like this.”

“You don’t get to control who I meet, John,” she snapped. “Fix this mess, and I won’t have to.”

She hung up, leaving John seething. He leaned back in his seat, staring at the glowing hotel sign. Why does it feel like I’m losing her?
