4 – First Five

"That's how it is." Megumi had just given those individuals a lengthy explanation. "Are there any questions?"

"Sorry, but this is too much for me." A female elf with long green hair in two braids sighed as she leaned against a tree. "You say we have died and been resurrected? That sounds ridiculous. But at the same time, I couldn't find a logical explanation for why I was here. The last memory I have is of riding a horse after the criminals. Then an arrow hit me in the chest."

"Believe me, Miss Sylvair Sarrell." Matt joined in as he sat down on a rock. "I also felt the same when I first came here."

Surprisingly, no one panicked when Megumi explained, so things went smoothly. In fact, no one interrupted the assistant at all.

"Then why were we summoned if not to fight?" a man with short hair asked.

"You will be the referee, Mr. Javier Navarro." Matt got up from the rock and approached the individuals. "And you will do it with Miss Sarrell in turn."

"Excuse me, sir." Megumi suddenly grabbed his boss's hand and took him some feet away. She then whispered. "Referee? Didn't I say they already made a device to do that job? That's why CoB is very fair to its fighters. That device has a high level of precision."

"But that's one of the things that makes that show even more boring," Matt smirked. "Sometimes a little flaw can make things interesting."

Before Megumi asked further, that young man came back to the prospective new workers.

"Miss Sarrell and Mr. Navarro, you can discuss the rules of our matches with Miss Megumi."

"You speak as if we already agreed." Sylvair Sarrell tilted his head.

A four-foot-tall bald dwarf between them laughed aloud. "You are so funny! Look how hard I'm laughing. The braids in my beard are moving!"

"What do you mean?" Sylvair snorted.

"Do you guys have a choice?" The dwarf came to Matt and spoke to him. "Tell me what will happen if we refuse this, Sir."

"As I said earlier, we don't have authorization to discuss the afterlife with you guys." Megumi chimed in.

"Maybe we will be put to hell or vanish altogether." The dwarf shrugged. "Well, I don't want that to happen."

"Thank you if you understand, Mr. Lognar Chaosheart." Matt smiled again, then turned to look at another young human woman with brunette hair and tan skin. "I don't want to waste too much time. Have you guessed your assignment, Miss Vivianne Cravier?"

The woman rubbed her chin. "As an announcer? I did work on some MMA shows, but this was new to me."

And Matt knew that it was just her guise. That woman is the assassin for hire in one version of the Earth.

In fact, these five people are dangerous. Matt picked them from a pool of prospective fighters, after all.

"But it seems like being a referee isn't bad either." Javier Navarro folded his arms across his chest, slightly looking up. "I'm sick of being an enslaved gladiator."

"Your countless fighting experiences will make you a good referee, Mr. Navarro." After saying that, Matt turned to a male elf with dark skin and white hair. "It's the same with your experiences in music, Mr. Elmar Lanthis."

"Elmar or El is okay." That elf scratched his head. In contrast to Sylvair, whose appearance is similar to characters in fantasy stories, Elmar wears a hoodie and jeans, which shows that he comes from a modern civilization similar to Earth. "I think I can guess what you want. You want entrance music for your fighters, right?"

Matt snapped his fingers. "That's right, I will give the profiles of our prospective fighters so you can arrange their music right away, but you have to wait because I haven't finished making the selection. At the very least, please make a list of the tools you need, then give them to Miss. Megumi. She will order them."

The other individuals, as well as Megumi, could only look at Matt in confusion. The concept of music that accompanies fighters seems foreign to them, even though it is an integral part of the identity of pro wrestlers. It's also used in MMA, although not too prominent.

"And the last." Matt turned his gaze to the dwarf. "Mr. Lognar Chaosheart."

Before Matt could explain a single word, Arael, the healer, was back at high speed. Megumi looked at that pink-haired woman with her chin down.

"You've summoned a healer without my knowledge, sir?" The assistant asked his superior.

"I didn't mean to offend you." Matt grimaced. "Sorry."

"Sorry, I'm late. After I reattached the construction worker's body, I took care of someone whose dick was crushed by an axe. I don't know why that happened either." Arael yawned, again showing no interest in being in that place.

The men there cringed at the story of that healer.

"And you have started construction?" Megumi massaged her forehead. "I have no problem…. It's also my fault for getting up late. But everything is too fast."

"Yeah, because I can't wait to start this." Matt spread his hands. "And now it's your turn, Miss Megumi. Prepare a temporary shelter for us, maybe a tent or something. Then, help make the rules of the fight with Miss Sarrell and Mr Navarro. After that, leave it to me to review."

"You still haven't explained my role, Sir Nash." The dwarf asked that young man.

"Follow me, Mr. Chaosheart." For the umpteenth time, Matt smirked.

"The match commentator, huh? I've never heard of such a thing." Lognar, the dwarf muttered as he followed Matt up the small hill. "What made you choose me, Sir Nash?"

"Matt’s fine. We'll be partners on the commentator's table, after all." The young man stopped at the top of the hill, observing the arena's construction. He didn't expect them to have laid the foundation of the building in such a short amount of time. "What do you think, Mr. Chaosheart? They gave me a lot of options. There are millions of them. But why did I choose you?"

"In that case, just call me Lognar." The dwarf laughed. "Well, I think I know why you chose me. Not to be arrogant, but I'm known as an excellent storyteller. I can make the story of fighting a cat interesting."

"I want to hear your tales against those mighty creatures, Mr… I mean, Lognar. I heard that you once cut off the heads of a hydra, pulled out the heart of a dragon… Ah, I can't even remember it all. You have too many stories."

Lognar took a deep breath. "You must know that it's all a lie, right?"

Matt chuckled. "If you can make a fake story interesting, how about the reality happening right in front of your eyes?"
