Charles sat in his study, surrounded by the scent of books and furniture. The news he had just received had left him surprised, unable to comprehend the unbelievable turn of events.

He couldn’t help but shake his head as he read the headline again: “Michael Adams Released from Prison, All Charges Dropped.” It was a blow to his faith in the city’s legal system, one that had already taken a beating over the years.

Norah cautiously pushed the door open and entered the room. Her brow furrowed as she saw the troubled expression across Charles’ face. “What’s wrong, Charles?” she asked, concern in her voice.
