Chapter Forty-two
Charles returned home from the detective’s office, his mind heavy with the weight of the situation he’d just been handed. His mansion loomed before him, its luxury a contrast to the grimy downtown of the city he had just left behind.

As he stepped through the front door, a wave of nostalgia washed over him. The shinny marble floors and elegant decorations had always provided him with a sense of comfort, a refuge from the chaos of the world outside. The sound of his footsteps echoed in the large living room.
