Water dripped from Ethan's shirt. Little by little, it soaked the seats and floor of the car. While driving, the mysterious man's eyes occasionally looked at Ethan from the center rearview mirror.
The mysterious man finally spoke up. “Mr. Ethan, my name is Piers Reaggan. I am your subordinate, Mr. Ethan. However, you left the organization when I just came in.”
Ethan was silent while glancing into Piers' eyes. Ethan's gaze made Piers avert his eyes. It seemed like he felt uncomfortable when their eyes met.
No wonder Ethan felt he had seen this man. It turns out that he was a former member of the Hunters organization. That happened three years ago, right before Ethan married Thalia Blake. Since getting married, Ethan has cut off contact with the organization. Even in these 3 years Ethan has not dealt with the Dark Beings and has only focused on maintaining the barrier at the Blake family residence.
Ethan turned his gaze back out the window. “It turns out you're a former member of mine.”
Piers nodded. “That's right, Mr. Ethan. I really admire your abilities and achievements. Your skills with your pistol, dagger, and seal magic are beyond great. You have even defeated hundreds of Dark Beings and monsters by yourself. Becoming your member is my goal in entering the Hunters organization.”
Ethan thought, if he was a member back then, it meant that Piers was a person who had a great ability to become a Demon Hunter. The division led by Ethan used to be a division that often went into the underworld that was never seen by humans. Searching for information and fighting with creatures beyond reason. In that world, being strong and can using magic is not enough. A new member could die anytime.
Surviving 3 years in that division was something very miraculous. Not just anyone could do it. Piers must have a very great thing in using special abilities to be able to survive in that underworld.
Piers glanced back at the center rearview mirror. “Mr. Ethan, we will head to the Hunters base in the middle of the city. I'm sure everyone there will be happy to welcome the return of a general--”
“I'm not returning to the Hunters organization.” Ethan immediately cut off Piers' speech. His eyes sharply stared at the man in the rearview mirror. “Just take me to the Hunters base. I will take my gear and money. Nothing more.”
Piers took a deep breath. He did not expect this answer he would get after he found Ethan after all this time. From what Piers knows, Ethan is a living legend like no other. He had gone on hundreds of missions into the underworld filled with monsters and creatures beyond reason, but he was still able to live even though he was very young at the time. His analytical skills are high. Moreover, supported by his ability to use daggers and revolvers. Taking out monsters became easy for him.
Piers ventured. “Alright, I'll take you to the base. Your money is there, but it's a different amount now. Do you remember the millions of dollars you left back then? You took stocks from real estate and security. Now those stocks have increased in value many times over in 3 years. This way, you may not have to worry about your life. Even if you sleep in a luxury hotel for the rest of your life.”
Ethan smiled a little. That was indeed the reason he invested the money he earned from the organization. He wanted to make the money multiply and eventually he could enjoy it together with Thalia. Too bad, Thalia had thrown it away without Thalia knowing what Ethan had.
When thinking about money, he remembered something. “How is my sister doing at the orphanage? Didn't I commission Morrison to give her some of my shares?”
Piers nodded. “That's right, Mr. Ethan. You had commissioned Morrison to do that. However, when we searched for your sister's whereabouts, it turned out that she was no longer in this town. And Morrison died shortly after you left the organization.”
Ethan was silent. His forehead wrinkled because as Ethan recalled, 8 years ago his sister was 14 years old. She was still in the orphanage. During her training and entry into the Hunter organization, Ethan had not given her any news so that she would not get into trouble. Ethan intended to give Eva Hunter, her sister, a half of his possessions so that she could be happy. Then, after Ethan retired, they would just have to live peacefully in this world. However, the news that his sister was leaving town left Ethan disappointed.
Piers saw how disappointed Ethan's face was. He smiled slightly. “There's no need to be disappointed, Mr. Ethan. We found Miss Eva Hunter in the city of Greenhaven, a city safe from creatures of darkness. A Demon Hunter named Nolan Sanders has already delivered your message to Miss Eva.”
Ethan immediately breathed a sigh of relief. It turned out that his sister was not in danger. Next time he would try to meet her. Although Eva would surely hate him for leaving her in the orphanage without any news for eight years.
Piers swallowed. “Are you sure you don't want to return to lead the remaining Hunters troops now, Mr. Ethan? You are the best general the Hunters have ever had.”
Ethan's attention returned to Piers' face in the rearview mirror. He narrowed his eyes. There was an unusual vibration on the young man's face. “Tell me the reason why I have to listen to you.”
Piers took another deep breath. “In the past three years, the activities of the creatures of darkness have increased rapidly. Already about 100 more people were recruited into the Hunters organization, but they all died quickly. And we have difficulty dealing with the development of those creatures.”
Ethan looked away. “Didn't they find a better general? Sounds like it's not just the Hunters organization.”
Piers fell silent after hearing that remark. He could not deny that indeed the current general in charge did not have strong adaptability like Ethan. Although the general was great, but she could not keep up with how the development of the creatures of darkness.
A few minutes later they stopped at a building that had a wire fence. The area was quite large and the gate was guarded by two people with guns. This place looked like it was a state secret.
After Piers spoke to the two guards, the gate was finally opened and the car entered the underground parking lot.
Piers got out of his car and opened the door for Ethan. Ethan got out and breathed in the air of the place. It reminded him of the old days when he was still in this organization. “It still smells the same.”
“Follow me, Mr. Ethan.” Piers then led Ethan to a room that once belonged to Ethan. There, all of Ethan's belongings were stored. Starting from clothes, access cards, and also books. There was only one thing that wasn't there, the weapon he used to eradicate the creatures of darkness.
Ethan quickly put on dry clothes, then he walked out of the room carrying a large bag containing all the books he had. One of the books was a gift from Volland Blake, Thalia's grandfather who had become Ethan's mentor and changed his life.
Piers looked at that with his eyebrows arched downward. “You have no intention of staying here at all. Are you going to leave the Hunters organization completely?”
Ethan glanced at Piers. “Not without my dagger and revolver.”
Piers exhaled. “Both weapons are in the hands of General Cornellia Bridgit ... you must meet her to get your weapons back.”
Ethan narrowed his eyes slightly. A name he had never heard before was now serving as a general. What's more, it was a woman's name. Who was she?
“Take me to see that woman!”

“Well ... look, who's back. Our radar suddenly picked up a powerful seal magic that was destroyed. It turns out that a legend did it.” A woman in a vertically striped black suit and miniskirt said it coldly. With a faint smile on her red lips, she crossed her arms in front of her chest. Standing at a slight angle as if showing her power in front of Ethan. “It turns out you're still alive, Legendary Demon Hunter, Ethan Hunter.”Ethan narrowed his eyes when he saw this woman. A woman who was too beautiful with very fair skin and long silver hair. At a glance, her tall body was a little full. That body had perfect muscles. Ethan could tell that this woman was strong enough to fight. The fact that she was a General in the Hunters organization was proof that this woman was not a person who can be underestimated. The woman stuck out her hand. “Cornellia Bridgit, General of the Hunters. A wound that only an object made of silver could produce on a vampire's body.Piers glared in disbelief. “Oh, God...”Ethan opened the barrel of his gun. “Piers! Bullets!”Piers shook his head. “I didn't bring any. I'll look for it right away!”When Piers was about to move to get the bullets, Cornellia chuckled. The woman immediately closed the door and locked it. “There will be no bullets in this room. The ammunition is in another one.”Suddenly Ethan and Piers dropped their plans. Ethan put his revolver back in his pocket. Piers slowly retreated to the edged weapons rack. He picked up a dagger there. Although short-range combat was not his forte, there was no other weapon he could use at the moment.Cornellia turned around. From behind her glasses, Ethan could see her eyeballs turning a red color. Her pupils turned cat-like. The atmosphere

The receptionist narrowed her eyes slightly. “Welcome, Mr. Ethan Hunter. Welcome back to the Gold Hotel.”Ethan didn't immediately answer the man's greeting. He immediately looked back. “Niko, Fernand, why are you guys so quiet?”Edward's two friends immediately stood in front of Ethan while glaring at Ethan. They acted like people with power. Unfortunately, such intimidating behavior had no effect on a former General like Ethan. So, Ethan looked at them casually while giving a faint smile.Niko held the collar of Ethan's shirt. “From your smile, you must have done it on purpose. You're looking to die, aren't you?”Ethan pointed at Edward. “He's the one who scared me. That make the thing fell.”Niko pushed Ethan's body until Ethan backed up and his back hit the wall. “Don't fuck around, damn it. Don't you know the Chulkin family?”Ethan didn't answer her. His eyes narrowed slightly, wary of this person. “Do you know my name?”The receptionist nodded. “Mr. Jim told me about you.”Jim was the receptionist who had greeted Ethan earlier. As devil worshipers, they would be possessed by demons and have various abilities. To the Demon Hunter, they were still human beings. They are not allowed to be killed. Rio frowned. “I don't understand. What were you thinking, Lieutenant? You're letting the man who injured Edward Chulkin get away with it.”The lieutenant glanced sharply at Rio. With a firm step he approached the deputy with anger. “Listen, damn it! If you still love your life, stay away from people with black cards. Even if they carry a sharp weapon or a gun.”Rio tilted his head. He realized that he wasn't a completely honest cop. However, letting a civilian carry a weapon was not something that could be justified. “So, Lieutenant is saying that cops like us shouldn't bother people like that even if they hurt others?”The lieutenant shouted loudly. “Yes! Immediately he glared at Ethan and set up a fighting stance. Breath rushed out of his mouth and nose. “Monster! His face remained flat, cold as a stone statue. There was not a hint of fear in his eyes, as if the shotgun blast was just a trivial matter.Stepping away from the table, Ethan tilted his head, his gaze fixed on the man. In a low, calm voice he tried not to provoke the man with the beard. “Calm down, sir. Ethan stood at the edge of the gravel road, his boots touching the ground damp with morning dew. Fresh air slipped into his lungs, carrying the distinctive scent of wet leaves and a hint of clay. She took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly. The cold air mixed with her hot exhale, forming a light mist in the morning.“How long have I been without air like this?” he murmured softly, his eyes gazing at the dense forest on the other side.A wooden signpost stood askew on the side of the road, the writing slightly faded, but still legible: Dogu. Ethan touched the board with a finger, the wood rough and mossy. The village felt unfamiliar to him, but his steps remained steady following the small road that led to it.Along the way, the sound of children's laughter echoed. Some ran around in bare feet, sending dust into the air. A small boy held a battered kite, its string tied tightly in his hand. Ethan glanced at them, the corners of his lips lifting slightly-a rare smile. However, the peace

Trevor calmly turned around, placing his gun on the dusty display case. His movements seemed confident, but there was a mystery lurking behind his smile. With one swift movement, Ethan slipped his dagger back into the holster, but his eyes remained fixed on Trevor. A shadow of suspicion crossed his mind. “How can you make something stronger than your grandfather's work?”Trevor tilted his head, as if savoring the moment. “That's why he retired. I've perfected his technique. He knew it was time to leave the shop to me.”He paused for a moment, staring intently at Ethan. “So, what are you looking for, legendary Mr. Demon Hunter?”Ethan

The old wooden door creaked softly as Ethan pushed it with his fingertips. Cold air mixed with damp smells greeted him immediately, like the scent of a long-locked basement. His footsteps were barely audible as he entered the building, as if the dusty old floor didn't want to betray his presence. Sunlight only slipped through a few small cracks in the windows.Ethan scanned the room. Nearly collapsed wooden shelves stood along the walls, filled with dusty bottles and almost illegible labels. The traces of time were clearly imprinted on every corner of the store, from the shabby carpet to the cracked ceiling. He stepped up to the glass display case in the center of the room, looked at the soberly displayed goods, then pressed the small bell on the counter. The sharp clinking sound echoed in the silence, as if disturbing the sleeping souls in the place.A man appeared, wearing a neat black suit with a crimson bow tie. His appearance contrasted with the condition of the building, but the

He gazed at the city of Silverhaven, his eyes radiating a mixture of calmness and firmness.Hugo exited the room with quick, decisive steps. The door slammed shut, leaving Ethan sitting back in his cushioned chair. He leaned back, hands interlocked in his lap. A thin, meaningful smile graced his face. His eyes narrowed, as if he was weighing something. In almost a whisper, he said to himself, “You shouldn't play with fire, Thalia.”On the other side of the building, the Blake family boardroom was filled with enthusiastic energy. A large mahogany table stood firmly in the center, with leather swivel chairs that looked inviting to sit on. A relaxed but dignified atmosphere filled the air.Ethan stepped inside without hesitation. His leather shoes made a soft sound as they touched the shiny marble floor. He walked slowly towards the swivel chair behind the desk, then sat down in a relaxed yet authoritative manner. The backrest of the chair accepted his back comfortably, while both hands rested on the arms of the chair. He turned the chair slightly, looking at Hugo who stood with a proud smile.Hugo looked relieved, like a heavy burden had finally been lifted. The small smile on his face signaled undisguised happiness. H
