Beat Down

Shian was tensed, he knew he will eventually face a high tier beast, but he wasn't expecting it to be this soon.

"If it's an intermediate tier beast, I can defeat it if I use all the weapons in my arsenal, but if it's on a higher tier, I don't think I have any other choice but to run.

The black dot kept getting bigger and the ground quaked more fiercely.

"If only this beast didn't make the ground shake so much, I could have escaped."

Or so he thought, if Shian knew that the beast had smelt him from afar, he will not be having those thoughts.

Shian waited with his trusty weapon in hand —his scythe. He steadied his breath to calm himself down and vested his armour.

A grey breastplate appeared on his body, a pair of blue gauntlets covered his hands with an opening for his fingers so that only his palm and wrist were covered, a pair of dun colored boots that reached his shin appeared on his foot and last but not least, a red helmet that covered his whole head with a T-shaped opening for his eyes and mouth rested on his head.

Standing there on the dry ground under the orange sky with his weapon and armour, he looked like a true warrior ready to reap the lives of his enemies.

Thirty seconds later, a four yellow eyed beast with sharp fangs, black skin and thick black fur stopped in his front, it was as large as a duplex and gave off a terrifying aura. That's because it was a

[Mutated Dire Wolf]

The beast didn't give him time to think of a way to deal with it and immediately lundged on him with deadly speed.

Shian was not expecting that to happen, but thanks to his training with his father, his body moved before he even thought of moving, he rolled to the side while also swinging his scythe.

His scythe bounced of the skin of house sized wolf without even leaving a scratch on it. The wolf kicked back with its legs, its claws hit Shian squarely in the chest and he shot back like a comet, leaving a trail of dust in his wake as he ricocheted of the ground.

Shian got up without wasting a moment, the wolf sprang at him once again, but this time, Shian was prepared. As the wolf reached him, it bit down hard where Shian was, expecting to taste the 'sweet' flesh of a human, but it bit nothing but air.

It's ears perked up and it looked up to see Shian coming down with a fist full of electric currents flowing through it.

Shian's fist caught a glancing blow to the head of the beast, now it was the beasts turn to feel some pain.

Though Shian's punch didn't lift the beasts whole body off the ground, it was strong enough to make its head jerk back. The beast shook its head furiously as if trying to take something off its face.

"It's worked!!, I better not waste the moment then." Shian exclaimed.

Shian shot forward desperately trying to end the battle quickly. He replaced his scythe with a pair of blood red sickles, aiming for a second, he sent one flying at the beasts eye.

Shian's guantlets had the active skill that gave him a forty percent chance of stunning an opponent after a successful hit with the gauntlets, while his sickles could make an injury bleed more than necessary.

The sickle flew through the air and embedded itself in the wolf's eye.

The pain seemed to have cleared the wolf's head. It raised its head and howled furiously.

A shock wave spread out in all directions hitting Shian, he was thrown of his feet and fell on his butt.

The wolf looked at him with the sickle in its eyes and as the blood flowed down its eyes like a fountain, it slightly scared Shian.

"O. K, I think I just made things worse." Shian gulped.

Shian began to back away slowly not wanting to trigger the wolf to attack with any sudden movement.

He picked up his second sickle which was by his side and got up slowly.

Shian watched, not knowing why the beast was not attacking. He watched on as the beast kept loosing more blood.

'If this keeps on, I won't need to do anything but just watch this beast bleed to death.' Shian thought.

'I better get going before it's too late.'

But it was already too late. A red aura burst out of the beast and coalesced on the surface of its body, forming a kind of red armour. The aura looked to have made the beast enter a berserk-like state, the beast lunged at him with almost double the speed it had before.

Shian received several deep scratch marks on his armour before it eventually gave way. Shian's breastplate was about to fall off after receiving so many 'cuts and bruises', so he activated the only active skill that could make a difference.

The pieces of the armour glowed white before exploding put with force.

The beast was about to headbutt him when suddenly out of 'nowhere' it was hit on the head with force, and for the first time since the fight had begun, it was pushed back.

Shian didn't waste time, he turned around and ran and fast as his legs could carry him.

Shian was running as adrenaline kept pumping through him which numbed all the pain he was feeling. He reached about two hundred meters before the ground trembled and he fell, he turned around and saw the wolf closing in on him.

Shian brought out a bow and quiver of arrows immediately and began to shoot like his life depended on it —well his life actually did depend on it— he pulled until his muscles became sore. He had missed several shots because the ground trembled as the beast ran and because of his fatigue.

The beast got to him and without slowing down it spun and hit Shian with it's tail. Shian's chest caved in as he easily flew through the air.

After soaring through the air for about a kilometer or so, he landed on the ground. It felt cold on his skin so he tried to open his eyes to see where he was.

After a minute or so he finally opened his eyes and a dull metal color greeted his eyes. He struggled to look around but couldn't because his neck and back and almost all the bones in his body were broken.

He heard the sound something tearing metal and knew that the beast had reached him.

'Is this how I'm going to die, like a poor weakling in the mouth of a beast.' Shian thought. "No, I refuse to give up."

Shian's scream echoed, his voice filled with a newfound resolve. In a corner, an inconspicuous grey mist shifted, then shot toward him and passed through his orifices, into his body.
