The last Gift

Charles grip on Shian's hand began to loosen but Shian held onto it firmly, not willing to let go. Shian also not wanting to believe that his father was already dead began to scream his father's name in the belief that he will suddenly awake from his 'sleep'. When he saw that he was getting no response, he leaned over his father and began crying uncontrollably.

His neighbors who had seen him running out earlier and coming back with a nurse knew what was going on already. Charles sometimes just broke down but next week he will be seen up and about training Shian to the bone.

This time though, they could hear the loud cry of Shian and just to confirm their fears, they slowly made their way to his house, one after the other, they walked in to meet the scene of Shian crying heavily.

A small boy who was fond of Shian and always loved to spend his free time watching Shian and his now dead father train, burst into tears as he saw Shian crying over a dead person. He had always heard grown ups talk about dead people and his mom explained to him that dead people where those that travelled in their dream and never came back.

So in his little mind he was probably thinking,

'Uncle Charles has travelled and would never come back, I'll miss him so much'

Shian who was wallowing in pain didn't notice when they all entered until the little boy who was called Dave began to cry. He immediately turned around and saw that it was just his neighbors, he moved his hands across his face and cleaned up the tears and snot that had accumulated on his face.

One of his neighbors, a man, came by his side and patted his shoulders trying to cheer him up.

"Shian buddy, I know how you are feeling right now, I felt the same way you feel when I lost my old man, but after a while I just thought it was his time to go and I felt better, though I still felt pain in my heart because I lost a loved one, but with time I got over it and I'm sure with time you will also get over it just like me, okay?

Shian nodded his head in response.

"Don't be too hard on yourself we will always be there for you, if you need anything just call on us and we will help you to the best of our ability." He turned to the rest of the neighbors and they all nodded simultaneously to his statement which made him happy.

At least there were still people who cared about him in this unfair world.

Some hours later, a six feet deep hole had been dug at the back of the house, the government didn't really monitor the outskirts so when people who resided in the outskirts died, coupled with the fact that they didn't have the money to buy a spot in a cemetery, they just dug a hole at their backyard and buried the body there.

Shian and his father barely had enough to survive which made them unable to save even one credit. Shian's neighbors took turns to bid farewell to Charles. After a lot of work, Charles' body was gently placed in the hole before it was covered up. After the hole was sealed, they all stood around it silently.

Sometimes later they began to leave Shian, and went back to complete their daily work. Shian stood there, staring into space seemingly lost in thought.

'Father, why did you have to leave me now. And that gold digger that calls herself my mother, I'll never forgive her for what she did to us, NEVER!!!'

Shian stood there for some minutes before he sat down staring at the grave. He sat there till the night came, then it began to rain.

It began with a little drizzle at first before it grew into a heavy downpour. The dark clouds in the sky began to rumble, lightning flashed in the sky repeatedly, but Shian didn't move an inch. He began to cry once again, he screamed loudly, venting his anger at the sky.

"Every thing that has happened to us is because we have been too weak, too weak to do nothing, till the point where those stronger than us decide our fate. But that has to change now, I will become strong, strong enough where no onewill be able to go against me and I will be able to protect those around me. I Shian Smith will be the strongest human to have ever lived."

As Shian spoke those words, lightning flashed across the sky along with the deafening sounds of thunder claps.

Shian stood there for some times again before eventually walking inside. He sat down and began to formulate an idea on how to achieve his aim of becoming who he wanted to be.

'First of all, I need to enter the Seven Deadly Sins Academy and awaken my ability. After that I'll stay for two or three years to learn to use it properly, after all, it's not a must I stay in the academy, people leave anytime they want, though they can never come back.

As Shian was pondering about what to do, he remembered what his father said, about a chest that was buried under the ground in the living room. He scampered to the living room and cleared it by shifting the table and rug aside, and slightly shifting the couches too. He got down on his knees, placed his ears against the ground and began knocking the ground. He knocked for a minute before finally hearing a hollow sound.

Shian rushed to the weapons room and struggled to pickup a large war hammer.

"Arhhh...Shit. I can lift over two hundred kg but I can't lift this measly ten kg what the fuck is wrong with me!!?

Shian finally made it to the living room with the large war hammer on his shoulder. He mustered all the strength he had and raised the hammer above his head, and with a loud roar brought it down with all of his strength.

The floor which was made of cement covered with tiles, gave way without any resistance, shooting broken fragments and pieces of ruble around.

Shian who was happy about the result couldn't brace himself in time when the hammer continued in its trajectory, pulling him with it. Shian fell face first with a resounding thud not able to even slow down his fall.

"Urghh...stupid hammer" Shian said with disgust. He looked at all the damage the hammer had caused and saw it lying on top of the chest with debris around.

"No, no, no, no, no. I swear if that stupid hammer caused any damage to the chest, I will destroy it." Shian said while fuming with anger.

He cleared the debris and smacked the hammer away clearly annoyed.

After taking everything off, it was then he had a good view of the chest. It was made with a dark colored wood with an intricate red pattern swirling around it, it didn't have a lock on it. He didn't bother too much about it and opened it directly and the first thing he saw was...

"An egg!!?"
