Serenity was startled. She did not expect the place where she had met him to be the place where his father had died.

"I'm sorry," she said.

"My father's death was his own doing," Jackson said in a low voice. "No need to apologize, Sis."

"His own doing?" Serenity was surprised. She never thought he would describe his father's death in this way.

"Isn't it? He fell in love with someone he shouldn't have. Soon, the person he loved found out he had no more value. He knelt on his knees and desperately begged for her to stay. Even so, it was useless. Finally, he froze to death in the snow."

The expression he had seemed indifferent. It was as if he was just talking about a perfectly ordinary thing, and even his voice remained calm.
