Chapter 2

"Multipler… system?"

“What is this? A hallucination? I’m hearing strange noises in my head…” Liam mumbled to himself while he was lying on the ground in serious pain.

He could clearly hear a mechanical female voice ringing in his head, however, he assumed that he must have been injured in the head due to the nonsensical words he heard.

With intense pain all over his body, it took him all his remaining strength to pick himself up from the ground. Those guards had done quite a number on him.

And after what seemed like an indeterminable amount of time had passed, he finally managed to sit up right with his body leaned heavily against the wall.

However, before he could catch his breath, Liam was stunned by the absurdity of the sight in front of his eyes.

In his sight, there was a large blue translucent screen that occupied almost the entirety of his vision.

[Ding! Congratulations on activating the Income-Multiplier System! You have been selected by the system.]

[Every month you are tasked to earn a target profit in a particular business sector. As long as the income earned is through rightful means, a random multiplier will be applied on the income.]

[Failure to reach target profit will result in the disappearance of the system.]

[July Target Profit: Delve in the Food & Beverage Business and achieve a net profit of $200,000!]

[Multiplier Effect X30 on all income streams in the Food & Beverage sector in the month of July.]

“What the hell? Is this how crazy people see the world? What’s a system? Is this some sort of AI program?” Liam groaned.

If it wasn’t for the fact that he could still think logically, he would have thought that he must have gone crazy from finding out that Grace had been cheating on him.

After taking a moment to calm himself down, Liam started asking questions in his mind, hoping that the system would answer him.

And as he expected, the system remained silent no matter what kind of questions he posed.

Then, while he was intrigued with the absurd phenomenon that had happened to him, he thought of something. He figured that it wouldn’t hurt to try.

Whipping out his smartphone, he opened the doordash app that was installed and selected the option to transfer his past earnings to his bank account.

He had accumulated approximately $1250 from working as a delivery driver for the past three weeks in July.

“This technically should work right? Delivering food should count as working for the food industry.”

[Ding! You’ve earned $1251. Multiplier applied. You’ve received $37530.]

After Liam authorised the bank transfer, the blue translucent screen that only he could see immediately reflected the changes. And to his surprise, almost simultaneously, he received a phone notification from the bank.

“This is…”

{Chase Bank Account Received $37530. New balance is $38130}

Upon looking at the phone message, Liam froze on the spot with his eyes widened. He was dumbfounded as he looked and checked his bank account balance repeatedly before finally yelling out a booming “Yes!”

His yell was so loud that everyone in the nearby vicinity turned their heads towards his direction.

However, he did not care if the passerby on the streets were looking at him weirdly.

The income-multiplier system was real and that was the only thing that truly mattered!

Three weeks worth of labor was turned into a year’s salary in an instant! For an illegitimate child like Liam, having more than 30 thousand dollars in his bank account was a surreal feeling to him.

Even though he was born into the prestigious Walker family whose wealth could rival a small nation, Liam was leading a tough life since he was young.

With his mother being a maid and a father who gave him no love, he was treated cruelly in the manor by the main family members.

Rather than a child, he was treated more like a prisoner. The Walker family were more concerned that they would be disgraced because of his existence, thus he and his mother were assigned to an abandoned shed house to live out their lives, hidden away from the others.

Along with having to endure humiliation and mocking from the main family members, he and his mother had to live in poor conditions too.

It didn’t take long for his mother to develop depression.

And the entire time, his father did not even look a single glance at their way.

In the end, the day his mother had passed away, Liam left the Walker family and didn’t look back.

With no qualification or education at sixteen, he worked in odd jobs to support himself.

Later, he thought he had found true love with Grace when she approached him with affection, but alas, it was all a big fat lie.

“This system can help me become richer than the Henson, Mason and most importantly the Walker family! I can build a business empire that will be able to rival their massive conglomerate!” Liam clenched his fists hard when he realised the amazing potential of the system.

As long as he could achieve the target profit set by the system every month, he would be able to reap the multiplier benefit on the income earned indefinitely!

His dream was no longer unattainable! Toppling the business giants of those that had wronged him and crushing them in the business world would make such a sweet revenge!

“YES! Just you bastards wait! I will be back in no time!” Ignoring all the pain, Liam stood up and roared with great passion.

With unwavering resolve, his declaration resonated throughout the streets of Nova City.
