Chapter 3: Completing First Mission

The nurse working in the administration department now smiled and acted gently. She said, "Thank you, sir, for your cooperative attitude; I apologise for the slightly inconvenient service earlier. All the paperwork has now been completed."

Ashton showed a flat expression, ignored the woman, and only focused on the system mission that had just been completed. Ashton could now leave there without being stopped by the hospital guards again. When Ashton stepped out, the system sounded in his mind.

[RING!]

[Congratulations on completing the first mission in the time available. You received ten system points, one million euros, 5 Emblem coins, and a medical expert ability]

Blub! Blub!

Still in shock, Ashton received a message on his cheap mobile phone. A notification from the world-renowned bank, HSBC Holdings.

(Good afternoon, we at HSBC Holdings would like to inform you that the account holder with the number 0123456 received a transfer at 11:30 am for 1,000,000 euros).

Ashton immediately felt stiff. He never thought that his fate would change, and he was not hallucinating. A notification from an authorised bank that can be checked through mobile banking is a reality that justifies this.

At first, Ashton wasn't convinced by all the system's explanations and thought that he was experiencing brain shock or something. But now Ashton is convinced that everything is not a dream and is real.

Soon, the panel that only Ashton could see appeared again before him.

[Name: Ashton Myers // Level: 1 (10/100) // Skill: Basic Human]

[Inventory: Available // Shop: Locked // [Emblemn: 5 coins // Balance: 1M euro]

[Mission: Completed]

Ashton continues his journey in a daze and mesmerised at the same time. The man now had one million euros. While that's a decent amount at this time of year, life in the city centre can take its toll. For someone like Ashton, who is holding that kind of money for the first time, it's clear that he will face a lot of temptation.

The man stopped at the bus stop, planning to see his small flat.

On the bus, Ashton reflected a lot on what had happened. A year had passed since he had a terrible accident and was critically hospitalised. Of course, many things had changed, and Ashton had to adapt to it all. Although he had no family, he still had some acquaintances who might be able to help him.

"Ashton, is it you? I'm not daydreaming, right?"

The woman couldn't believe the man before she was a tenant in her small flat.

"Madam Helena, I'm Ashton. Why are you like seeing a ghost?"

Ashton just wanted to visit the flat he rented, even though there weren't many valuable things, but some important files were there.

"Oh God!" Helena covered her mouth in shock. Although their relationship was limited to tenant and landlord, the woman was very kind to Ashton.

The appearance of the man in front of Helena looked very different from the person she knew. Ashton looks like someone who is completely open to him.

The man had a handsome face covered by long hair. He also had a bushy moustache and beard; the rest was unkempt. Ashton looked like a tramp who had just escaped from a time capsule.

He then explained about the phase of life he had just gone through. Helena knew that Ashton was an orphan but did not expect the man she knew so well to fall critically and be hospitalised for so long.

Ashton began to think he was lucky to be placed in a super-premium room because he received the best care from the hospital. He became one of the priority patients.

"Ashton, I'm sorry, but your flat is now rented by someone else," the woman said guiltily. Helena thought that Ashton had run away or was no longer alive because of the many crimes that had taken place recently that claimed lives.

Ashton was stunned at the woman's words, but he couldn't possibly scold someone who had often been kind to him. He could only shake his head at Helena's explanation.

"Ashton, I still have your stuff. You might need it."

The old woman could only be embarrassed when she escorted Ashton to the warehouse where she kept her belongings.

"Madam, it's fine. I'll get my stuff!" Ashton smiled as he entered the dark, stuffy and humid warehouse.

The man should be grateful that his items were still well-preserved. Ashton picked up something that caught his eye.

It was a simple necklace that became part of his identity. The necklace has been with Ashton since childhood. Even the orphanage said that it was the necklace that linked Ashton to his family.

But unfortunately, he didn't know who his parents and family were. Since they never existed in Ashton's daily life, the man didn't know what to feel when remembering his family.

"Madam, thank you for keeping my luggage. In return, I'll pay the outstanding rent!" Ashton smiled, then took the money from the system inventory and gave it to Helena.

"I can't accept this amount," Helena replied frantically.

Ashton's money totalled 100,000 euros. It was more than the fee Helena had set. But Ashton forced her to accept as if his money was worthless.

"Madam, you take it. Think of it as a fine for me causing you trouble and disappearing." Ashton forced the woman to accept it.

After the matter was over, Ashton left the residential area. He decided to find another place. Ashon could get a much better and more comfortable place with his money.

But before that, Ashton stepped into a barbershop in a nearby mall to improve his appearance and get some decent clothes. Not forgetting after that, the man went to a restaurant in the building to fill his stomach, which had only been getting nutrients through IVs.

"Alright, let's see what great things I can do!" After completing the payment, he muttered, and the system sound returned.

[RING! System mission triggered, you must save the old man from a condition that will take his life].

"Help! Help! Hurry up and call 999," a waitress screamed hysterically at the sight of a customer lying with a pale face.

"I've already contacted them. Rescue help will be here in 15 minutes." Another waiter dialled 999 to get an ambulance there.

At that moment, the restaurant's situation fell into chaos. Some people were convinced that the old man would die if he weren't taken to hospital as soon as possible.
