The Visitor

“What the hell?!”

Benjamin swung his head around to see who was speaking. After turning around twice, it was obvious that he was alone on the entrance pavement.“Hello?”“System Initializing…” The voice seemed to come from everywhere, and nowhere at once this time.

The tone was difficult to describe, but if you had to manage-“Error. Unknown response.” Now it seemed to come from both ears. Benjamin’s knees began to knock. A voice without a body. Had he lost his mind sitting on that pavement? Did his worries really make his mind snap?

“Mr Benjamin.” One of the Mansion guards had approached him.“You’re needed inside.”

“Ahh. There he is. The man of the hour!” yelled Simon. This was almost too enjoyable. They were inside the Living Room, while Claire was outside cuddling up with Mr Mardo by the pool. Simon and Joanne Black were sitting on the soft vegan-leather sofas facing Benjamin.

Joanne was wearing her glasses, scrolling through social media on her phone.“Please-” Simon motioned to an empty seat, but then grinned.“Stand.” Simon said. “We don’t want you to get too distracted, now do we?” he continued.

Benjamin looked to one of the side tables, and saw something pretty shocking.“Are those my clothes? And my shoes?” Benjamin asked, getting heated.“Oh, those? When the maids were cleaning, they were about to throw them in the trash because of their sorry state.

And one can’t blame them now, can they? Just look at them.” said Simon. A blatant lie.“Those are my clothes. You had no right.” replied Benjamin, biting his teeth.

He was ready to let Simon really have it this time. He was going to-“System Initializing: 1st Wish: Purchase new clothes with $3,000,000?” The voice was so loud this time, that Benjamin winced. But to his surprise, no one else in the room seemed to hear it.

“Come on, Benji. Are these rags really yours?”

“Yes, you asshole-” “System Granted. Purchase complete.” came the system again. Benjamin’s phone vibrated in his pocket. He checked it to see he had received a new email from Valentino’s Secrets, the most expensive and oldest fashion brand in the city.

“Dear Mr Benjamin, thank you for your purchase. We have sent it via express delivery.”“What is this?” Benjamin asked aloud.“Okay, let’s get down to business you useless son-in-law. Oh, you aren’t even son-in-law anymore, are you?”

“What’s that supposed to mean? Me and Claire are still married!”

“Hmm! About that….”

More people came into the room this time. They were the Black family lawyers. They handed a small document to Benjamin.“Benjamin Black, this is the divorce papers to Claire Black. She has already signed-” one of them started.

“You can’t force me. I love Claire..” said Benjamin, shivering a little. His feelings were a little conflicted.“And if you don’t sign, you have to pay back the money we have been using to treat your sister” boomed Joanne Black.

Ahh! So she knew! Now it was all over. Either way, for Benjamin and his sister, their lives were over.

Ding Dong! The manor doorbell rang.“Isn’t this past Eight? Mother, are you expecting someone?” asked Simon.“No, I am not. It is most likely one of James and his friends.” answered Joanne.James was the youngest member of the Black family.

The supposed last born of Joanne Black. Ding Dong! One of the guards returned after checking out the guest.“It is a delivery agent, Ma’am” he said to Joanne.“Ahh. No wonder, it’s Mr Mardo ordering something for this special evening. Let him in, please.”

The guard left, and came back with a man that was too well-dressed to be a mere delivery agent.“Oh, my” said Joane Black, blushing. The man was exceedingly efficient.

“Good Evening, Masters and Misses. I am from Valentino’s” the man started.“Valentino’s secrets?!” said Simon, leaning in. He had tried ordering from them more than 30 times.

But Valentino were especially picky about their customer base. They could even reject some billionaires that they feel don’t represent their company virtues. Mr Mardo must be exceptionally influential to have Valentino’s deliver for a casual evening like this.

“Of Course” said the delivery agent/butler.“Mr Mardo is out in the Courtyard, over there.” said Joanne. The butler looked, but then shook his head. He then looked over the room, and his eyes fixated on Benjamin.“Ah, there you are!” the butler said, and approached him.

“Here you are, Master Benjamin. I hope our selections are to your liking. First, here is the cashmere V-neck. I think you’ll see it pairs nicely with the beige pants..” The butler had unbuckled the suitcase, he was carrying, and brandishing the designer clothes in front of Benjamin.

Simon’s face held a pallor tone, and Joanne Black flicked her eyebrows up and down like she was about to have a stroke.“Haha, I think you’re mistaken, Sir.” laughed Simon.

But Simon was thinking how he could be mistaken. The butler had actually called Benjamin by name.“How Impertinent! You suggest that I, a senior tailor that has trained 35 years at Valentino, would mistake his customer? Along with his sizes and dimensions? How rude to the extreme!”

“No, that’s not what I-”

“I will review this disrespect with the board of Valentino, Mr Simon Black.”

Valentino’s had actually refrained from attending to Simon all these years because they saw him as weak and unfit to run the black family. In all this, Benjamin was also mostly as appalled as everyone else.

“Forgive me, Master Benjamin for the outburst. For this, Valentino will reimburse you $1,000,000 for such a sight! Please accept our apologies!"
