Chapter four

It's been three days since the divorce. Oliver stepped into his new office wearing an expensive black Italian suit with leather shoes. He had a good haircut and looked as sophisticated as they come.

He looked different, like he had undergone a major glow up!

When he entered his office, his phone rang. The caller was Jamie, his late father's butler, who had always told Oliver not to bring himself down and disguise himself as a poor guy to search for love.

"Young master Oliver, I have an update on your father's assassination twenty years ago. Tim, your ex-wife's father, is responsible!"

Jamie suddenly blurted out, like the weight of the realization was too much for him to bear. Oliver frowned, his face darkening.

"What did you just say?" He asked in a menacing tone.

"Do you remember the Circadian Deal? The business deal that took the finance world by a storm years ago? Your father was the driving force. It would have changed the country's economic state for good. Lives would have been empowered…" Jamie sighed.

"But Tim, your former father-in-law, betrayed your father to the Mafia. They assassinated your father and took portions of his wealth to establish their own companies," Jamie added.

A jolt of adrenaline surged through Oliver's system while he listened to the words. Growing up, he never knew much about his father's assassination.

The man's body was never even found for his car dropped from a cliff. But Oliver never stopped searching for answers.

Just then, his secretary walked into his office.

"Forgive me, boss, but there are people here to see you," she said to him while the phone was still in his ear.

"Who is it?" He asked her.

"It's Dominick Torino and his fiancé Cara," she responded. Oliver frowned as he thought for a moment.

"Jamie, let me call you back," he said to Jamie and then hung up. "Send them in," he told the secretary who walked out briskly.

A few seconds later, both Cara and Dominick walked into the office. As soon as they saw him, they were shocked. Both of them exchanged glances.

"Oliver? Is-is that you?" Dominick questioned.

"Shut up darling. It's just a resemblance. The Oliver we know is probably in the gutters right now. People have doppelgangers. It's not a big deal," Cara shot at Dominick and forced a smile.

Dominick became mute instead, and as Oliver just glared at them, they tried to sit down.

"I didn't give you permission to sit," Oliver said to them and they froze.

"Mr Blaze. We heard about the company's new change in ownership, so we decided to come by ourselves to discuss important things regarding your investment-"

"My investment?" Oliver cut Dominick off and scoffed. Dominick was flustered.

"Black Oil Incorporated signed a contract with me to invest one hundred million dollars into my company," Dominick replied.

"I know. I have terminated that contract. Didn't you receive the mail, or were you that inattentive?" Oliver asked. Both Dominick and Cara gasped.

"W-what? But why?" Cara muttered.

"Your company is thrash. You have a terrible track record characterized by incessant spending and little returns. That investment was bound to fail!" Oliver replied sternly.

Cara gulped. She didn't know what to do. Everything had come crashing down. That investment was meant to save not only Dominick's company but her father's own as well.

What would she do now? She had an expensive lifestyle to maintain. Her friends would mock her if she couldn't keep up.

Cara fell to her knees.

"Please, Mr Blaze, you mustn't do this. I'll do anything! Give anything, even my body!!" Cara blurted out and Dominick froze.

"Cara!" He yelled at her but she paid him no heed. Oliver chuckled as he watched them.

"Tell me, Mr Blaze, won't you like to spend a night with me? Think of it as a thank-you package," Cara added. Dominick couldn't believe his ears.

"I have no use for the likes of you. Get out of my office now! And do not return!!" Oliver snapped at them and Cara whimpered.

She quickly stood to her feet, glaring at Oliver. "I will not give up, Mr Blaze. I will change your mind!" She said to him.

Oliver called security over and they threw the pair out of the office. "Make sure they never return," Oliver added while Cara kicked, screamed, and yelled.

Once outside, Cara walked briskly to the car and sat down, fuming as Dominick followed.

"What the hell was that back there? How could you offer your body to a man that you just met for the first time?" He asked her and she gazed at him with fury.

"I tried to do what I could to save our deal! I was already another man's wife when you met me. Are you getting jealous now?" She asked and scoffed.

"We're engaged. That means you belong to me now! And did you see that man's striking resemblance to Oliver? Does that mean you still love Oliver?" Dominick asked her.

Cara let out a fit of laughter.

"Oh, Dominick, I only belong to you if you are rich. You failed to secure the contract that would have made me marry you. Right now, you are not worthy of me. You're nothing!" Cara yelled at him.

"Besides, I already told you to stop this stupid obsession over Oliver. Can you even hear yourself? To think that Oliver is the CEO is ridiculous, and to even suggest that I am still in love with him makes you stupid!"

Cara yelled again. Dominick raised his hand to slap her and she quickly yelped while covering her face with her hands.

"Get out of my car!" He snapped at her instead. Cara rolled her eyes and kissed her teeth.

"Fuck you, Dominick Torino, you broke ass thing!" She replied and quickly dashed out of the car.

Dominick punched his steering. He drove off, leaving Cara to fend for herself.

From his office, Oliver could see the drama playing out.

But then, his mind went back to Jamie's revelation. If Cara's family was responsible for the death of his father, he would never forgive them.

He had to dig deeper!
