After warning them, he turned to Eleanor: “I have to handle something. Stay at the office, and call if you need me.”

“Alright, be safe.” Eleanor said, not pressing him with more questions as she watched him leave.

Walden and the others, frustrated, began shouting at Eleanor once Alexander had left. But Eleanor ignored them completely, leaving them yelling in futility.

Alexander drove to Misty Ridge Village. As he approached the village gate, he spotted the warehouse in the distance. Outside, a group of rough-looking young men stood around, some sitting as they talked. Alexander felt relieved—Thorne was still unharmed. He sent a text to Thorne and, after receiving a response, began walking toward the warehouse.

Not far from the building, four thugs were hanging around, smoking and laughing as they casually waved their knives.

As Alexander approached, one of them pointed his knife at him and said rudely: “Stay there. Can’t you see we’re busy?”
