It was Cade's third week since his return now. His work outs had begun to pay off little by little. He could now lift the weights without feeling as much pain in his joints as he used to feel. His martial arts training has also been going well so far. Since Cade learnt how to interact with his instructor, it had been going pretty well for him. He took the training seriously and dedicated two hours after his classes every day to practicing what he learnt. Now, he was excellent at the little he knew, and his instructor was proud of him. Even though Ralph Park would never say anything more than 'good job' to Cade, he was really impressed at his student's progress. Gale on his own part, was occupied with so much work than he had been since Cade's arrival. The board had met a few times this week to deliberate on when to put Alex to the test, and had concluded it would be on the Thursday of the following week. This information, Gale had loyally relayed to Cade. Once the board members were
Cade's camera set finally arrived, as well as the electric cake mixer that he ordered for his mother. The camera came with a full kit, and all they had to do was figure out a way to hire a technician to set it up without anyone getting suspicious. The technology of the camera was set up such that it could be connected to a computer of the person who intended to use it for monitoring an event or a place so viewing would not be a problem for Cade as long as it’s set up properly the first time.Gale was off for the weekend, so Cade did not bother asking him to come get the camera set. He would just send it to Gale through the publishing company, and they’ll get a good technician who would install and connect the cameras on Monday. He only hoped the installation would not take more than three days. If it did, he would not be able to witness Alex's presentation and the point of his purchase would be defeated. It was supposed to take less than an hour to set everything up, but with the cu
The day for Alex to present all that he had learnt in the past three years to the board had come. The board members sat in the boardroom, unaware of the cameras taking record of all they were doing, while they waited for Alex's arrival. They had gotten accustomed to his style of coming late to any meeting he had with the board. In an hour or so, he would be with them so they conversed among themselves. They had scheduled the meeting to take place by 10am that day, but it was already a few minutes past ten and Alex was not in sight. Cade’s mother was present as well since she was the current CEO and Alex was vying for her position.Cade on his own part got busy while waiting for Alex as he watched the activities from his computer. He went through a few records before Alex came. It was Alex's voice that drew Cade's attention to his arrival. He left the records and focused on his computer. Cade could see all the eleven board members, including Gale and his father. He could also see that
“Let me get back to my presentation. There’s no need for words to be exchanged.” Alex said to try and keep the peace. He didn’t want his mother to be kicked out because rightfully, she shouldn’t be there.“ As I was saying, I, Alex Milton, am set to take the role of CEO. But as it is with every noble role, one must prove his worth and worthiness of assuming the role. It is in this bid that I came to accept the order given to me by the board to undergo a three year business training in order that my interests are aligned with that of the company. And I know that it was a very noble thing to do. Which is why I have come to this assembly to prove my worth to you." He paused and looked around. The board members looked on at Alex, and his mother kept nodding as he talked. She even started recording a video, to which Cade rolled his eyes. Cade rolled his eyes even more at Alex's fake speech. Did official presentations like this even require that much talking that had no relation to what wa
The next day, the board members assembled in the boardroom again. Their purpose of convening was to deliberate on whether to make Alex the CEO or not. It was a hard decision to make, because they had seen just the previous day that Alex did not learn anything from the training he was supposed to do and was not fit to be the CEO, but they also knew that he had done his own part of the deal and it will be unjust to not give him the position. Also, they knew that Alex and his mother would make trouble again if Alex was not given the position. As it is with meetings, arguments ensued between the members before a final decision was made. Cade's father was present at the meeting, but that did not stop the other board members from saying exactly how they felt about Alex's presentation. "It was a show of stupidity if you ask me." The man who had left the meeting angrily the previous day spoke to the agreement of others. "A summary for a presentation? If he had even summarized everything, th
For Mr Sean, the deed had already been done. They had already asked Alex to undergo a training which he did, and make a presentation, which he had just done. It did not matter to him whether or not it was badly done, all he knew was that it was done, and the next step should be taken. He also did not want any more lawsuits, because Alex could be that crazy. And he knew that if he supported Alex now, when Alex became CEO, he would be on Alex’s good side. He didn’t want his position on the board of the conglomerate to be jeopardised. The others were willing to take that risk, but he wasn’t."I don't know, Sean, what do you think he should do? Take the company into more mud than it already is? Alex will ruin us. You were here, same as I was, his presentation was severely flawed." Mr Culkin returned. Sean shook his head and smiled derisively. "Which is why I asked your opinion again. Will making another presentation prove to you that he in fact underwent the training and is fit for the j
Mackenzie Milton got home earlier than usual that day. Usually, when board meetings were held, he came back home late. But not today. Today, the board meeting had ended on a rough note and Mackenzie could not bring himself to stay back at the company for work. The other board members, he knew, would go back to work in their different departments to finish work for the day, but he just could not do so. He entered the house in the usual silent manner about him. Mackenzie was a quiet man who hardly spoke, and did so only when he found it necessary. Or that was the man he used to be before he got himself involved with Cassandra. He met an almost drunk Cassandra in the living room, sipping on alcohol straight from a bottle. "Oh, for goodness sake." He muttered under his breath. He was tired of having to come back from the office every day just to meet Cassandra drunk or in the process of getting shitfaced."Cassy, are you at it again?" He asked the woman who just took another swig from t
After being rejected for the first time in his life by a woman, Alex went to the club to party away the night like the undisciplined, spoilt child he is. He woke up with an extreme hangover the next day and stayed inside for the whole day being nursed by his mother. When it was finally the day for his inauguration as CEO, Alex lay in his bed in silence. His eyes were wide open and he had barely gotten any sleep last night because of the excitement of today's event. Now, at seventeen minutes past eight in the morning, he contained his excitement by being silent. He looked at the wall clock opposite his bed at intervals. Once it was nine, he would start his preparations for today. He knew that starting his preparations by nine would make him late, but he did not mind. He was basically the CEO now, and if they could not wait till he was at the ceremony, that would be their business. His father, Mackenzie had already left for the company earlier with his mother. She had insisted on follo
