THEY REJECTED MERCY
She waited till she had swallowed every bite of food in her mouth before answering Cade's question.

"A trailer collided with my car." She answered simply.

"A trailer? That's crazy."

"Yeah."

"I'm sure the trailer driver and whoever was with him did not sustain any injuries as you did," Cade said, though it was partly a question.

It may seem cruel to others that he wished the driver was as hurt as his mother but he couldn’t help thinking that way. It would be unfair if the person that almost killed his mum just escaped like that with no complications after almost taking her from Cade.

"I don't know if it did, but after the trailer hit my car, I lost control of my steering and the next thing I knew was that I woke up in a hospital at night."

"Damn."

"Yeah. You know, I think it was just some reckless driver or a brake situation. You know how these people who drive trailers can drive funny sometimes," She chuckled weakly at her joke. Cade smiled.
