CHAPTER 5

Oliver dialed a second time and Adam finally answered, ''Adam, I'm very sorry if I called you. I have no one else to run to.'' he stammered.

''I just don't think you will like what's gonna happen next. The CEO will know it soon.'' he responded, ''You've been doing great in the company and you might be promoted, and you just ruin your dreams.''

''I understand, Adam.'' Oliver answered, "That's why I'm calling you. Can you lend me some money? I'll pay you back once I get back. The bail I have to pay here is 30000 dollars,''

"You didn't understand. I want to help you, but I'll be fired if anyone finds out,'' Adam stormed.

He doesn't want Adam to get involved in this and it's wrong if he forces him to help which will result in his friend losing his job.

''It's okay, thanks though. I'll fix this.'' he hung up the phone.

There are no other people Oliver can reach out. He lived all alone, and this was never a problem before. If Oliver had been told that one day you would go to jail, he would have thought it was a joke.

''Release my grandson! He is innocent!'' he heard the voice of an old woman crying as she approached her imprisoned grandson. The police released her grandson when the old woman paid the bail for its minor offense.

''Grandma!" the young boy cried, he hugged her tightly, ''I wasn't involved but I'm very sorry for causing you this trouble! I promise, I'll never do this again!''

A memory of his grandmother suddenly popped into Oliver's mind. It made him sad because she was no longer alive.

It haunts him every time he remembers how she died. He caught her struggling to breathe, and he couldn't do anything but cry. That night he was mourning the loss of his most treasured person.

A grandmother who takes care of him even though he's not his grandson. She just picked Oliver up from the garbage when his mother left him in a basket when he was a newborn baby.

It saddens him to know that his mother did that to him. But he's grateful and lucky that grandma embraced him wholeheartedly. But she also did not promise that she would stay for long.

She also left him. As death is inevitable.

When Oliver met Merideth, she changed his perspective on how he thinks about life, she gave him a reason to live.

Oliver was a little surprised when his phone rang again, he felt a little hope when he saw that it was Adam who called so he answered it immediately, ''Hello?''

''Oliver, where is the police station you were taken to? I'll take care of paying for your bail there,'' Adamson said directly.

Oliver was very glad that he is willing to help him but he noticed something strange in his friend's voice. He seems nervous, Oliver just hopes that nothing bad will happen to him, ''The second district police station near the city hall,'' he gave the address so he could find him.

''Okay, wait for me,'' Adam answered and cut the conversation.

Oliver felt relieved but ashamed at the same time, he was so grateful that someone would risk helping him out of his mess. Oliver can't help but also worry for Adamson, he could be fired from the company if anyone finds out that he got him out of jail. If something bad happens to him, he will be the one to blame, he will take accountability if he loses his job. Oliver wanted to repay but he can give nothing in return for the goodness he has given.

About thirty minutes later, he heard footsteps coming from outside and he saw Adamson outside the window talking to the officers. Adam also saw him and he was brought into the room where Oliver was, he stood up on his chair to face his dear friend.

''I'm very glad you came,'' Oliver thanked him and hugged him, ''It's nothing, besides we have to leave, we shouldn't stay here for long,'' Adam said in a hurry so he followed him after he paid the bail and the police released Oliver.

When the two of them got out of the police station, there was a car waiting for Adam, ''Are you leaving already?'' Oliver asked and he nodded, ''How can I thank you, Adam? '' he asked shyly.

''You don't need to repay, it's fine,'' Adam said and gave a light smile.

Oliver wanted to say something but Adam immediately entered the cab. So he was left alone in the dark corner of the road where there are no people but stray dogs are wandering.

A small dog came to him asking for food, ''Your barking at the wrong tree,'' he told the dog but it stayed beside him.

These stray dogs have been waiting for someone who would give them a home, but some dogs aren't lucky.

Oliver has no home to go to right now, he didn't pay the previous rent in the boarding house he live in so he got evicted and stayed the other day in an alley with vagrants living, unfortunately, the suitcase containing his clothes was stolen, but, the important documents he need are safe.

Oliver seated on the side of the road as his knees hurt and was watching the cars pass by.

The cold breeze he felt made him shiver. He noticed a car from not far away, it was a fancy limousine. It seemed to be approaching in his direction and he covered his eyes from the beam of the car's light. Oliver didn't expect it to stop in front of him so he was confused as he looked at the man peeking out of the window wearing black glasses.

''You need to come with me,'' he heard the deep voice of a man that seems familiar like he think he had already seen him somewhere.

''W-why? Who are you?'' he asked looking up at him then he realizes he was the man on the billboard.

Right, he's one of the richest CEO in their city.

''Because I'm your father,'' the man answered and Oliver wish he just misheard what he said.
