Chapter 13

The professor was surprised to see Lyra sitting next to work, but he did not make any comments about it and just went home with the important announcement that he had come to tell them in the first place.

"The exams have been adjusted by the higher council of wizards that run this University which I am also a member of I must note..."

Rex began to feel his breathing becoming regular but he maintained a straight face because you could sense that the girl sitting next to him was staring at him intensely as if she was trying to shoot a hole through his head then his eyes remained on the professor as the man said that the decision to adjust the exams had gone through a lot of thorough examination and had been seen as the best decision.

"There is going to be a group section of the exam, so if you do well in your other classes but then you fail in the group work it is seen as an overall failure..."

As soon as the professor said this the entire hall was taken over by every morning as the students looked at each other and discussed how this would affect them.

"Do you have any idea why they would do such a thing huh?"

Rex was a bit startled by her voice because it had been a while since someone had spoken to him in such a friendly manner and he was used to being the social outcast in situations like this especially.

"Maybe they want us to develop our teamwork though I don't see the purpose of that, I would rather get strong by myself than rely on anyone.."

Lyra sighed.

"Enough with the murmuring," the professor said with a harsh tone placing his hand on the desk. and then a huge blast of wind crossed through the entire lecture hall from the wind enchantment that he did it seemed to do the trick because everybody immediately calmed down at least visibly even though internally they were panicking.

"Do not be too troubled it also has its advantage if you do well in the group which means that your other grades will be *supported* by it.. and there is a special price for the best group that will come out in the exam."

Rex could only imagine how happy Kelvin was at this time, the other boy had a lot of friends unlike him who had mostly bullies and people that despise him at every corner nobody would ever willingly join a group with him.

"You will be given the freedom to choose those in your group, however, if you have not made a group by the end of this week then there will be a punishment... Now let's begin today's lesson. I don't want any side talks..."

The professor said turning over to the board as if he had not just dropped a bomb on his students, Jared magical University had always focused on individual skill and building up each person the students were utterly confused about why teamwork has become so important overnight.

But nobody was more confused and weighed down by the information than Rex, where was he going to find people to join his group? The professor had even said that there was a punishment for those that would not be able to get a full group by the end of the week.

"So Rex, what's our plan?"

Lyra's voice woke him up from his bed of thoughts but before he could even say anything two girls rushed over to their seats.

"Lyra we are looking for one more person to join our group, don't you want to join us?"

Rex looked away, suddenly feeling an emptiness in his chest which he tried to brush off it's not as if they were even friends or anything so of course, he was going to choose her friends no-

"Girls, thanks for the offer but I'm already part of another group right now maybe next time..."

Rex suddenly found his heart racing.

"Are you being serious right now?"

he asked her as her friends stood there as stiff as statues.

"Y-yes! even the weirdo thinks what you are doing is odd, come on Lyra if you don't join us then you might not be able to find another group..."

Rex suddenly felt a pat on his shoulder and her hand rested there.

"You don't have to worry about me too much. I already have a group of my own, but if you see anybody that wants to join, tell them that we still have to empty slots..."

After looking at her for two straight seconds as if their eyeballs were about to fall out, they finally walked away mumbling to themselves.

"Are you actually trying to fail?"

Those were the first words that Rex said to her because he was so confused by her sudden action.

"You heard what the professor said, right? that failing the group project can affect your other grades. You don't have to fail for me, you should have just gone with your friends..."

she cocked her head getting up from the seat with a little chuckle.

"Don't be silly, of course, I wouldn't trade my grades for you, which is exactly why I'm coming along with you.... now let's see if we can find two more people to join your group."

She got up and started asking other students if they wanted to join, while Rex remained perplexed at her answer. she seemed to have so much confidence in him that he had forgotten to have in himself.

But he knew that this was not going to be easy and he hoped that she would not regret her decision of coming along with him, as he stood up to see if he could convince anyone he suddenly bumped into a girl that was rushing to another seat over the hall and both of them fell to the floor.
