The professor was surprised to see Lyra sitting next to work, but he did not make any comments about it and just went home with the important announcement that he had come to tell them in the first place.
"The exams have been adjusted by the higher council of wizards that run this University which I am also a member of I must note..."
Rex began to feel his breathing becoming regular but he maintained a straight face because you could sense that the girl sitting next to him was staring at him intensely as if she was trying to shoot a hole through his head then his eyes remained on the professor as the man said that the decision to adjust the exams had gone through a lot of thorough examination and had been seen as the best decision.
"There is going to be a group section of the exam, so if you do well in your other classes but then you fail in the group work it is seen as an overall failure..."
As soon as the professor said this the entire hall was taken over by every morning as the students looked at each other and discussed how this would affect them.
"Do you have any idea why they would do such a thing huh?"
Rex was a bit startled by her voice because it had been a while since someone had spoken to him in such a friendly manner and he was used to being the social outcast in situations like this especially.
"Maybe they want us to develop our teamwork though I don't see the purpose of that, I would rather get strong by myself than rely on anyone.."
Lyra sighed.
"Enough with the murmuring," the professor said with a harsh tone placing his hand on the desk. and then a huge blast of wind crossed through the entire lecture hall from the wind enchantment that he did it seemed to do the trick because everybody immediately calmed down at least visibly even though internally they were panicking.
"Do not be too troubled it also has its advantage if you do well in the group which means that your other grades will be *supported* by it.. and there is a special price for the best group that will come out in the exam."
Rex could only imagine how happy Kelvin was at this time, the other boy had a lot of friends unlike him who had mostly bullies and people that despise him at every corner nobody would ever willingly join a group with him.
"You will be given the freedom to choose those in your group, however, if you have not made a group by the end of this week then there will be a punishment... Now let's begin today's lesson. I don't want any side talks..."
The professor said turning over to the board as if he had not just dropped a bomb on his students, Jared magical University had always focused on individual skill and building up each person the students were utterly confused about why teamwork has become so important overnight.
But nobody was more confused and weighed down by the information than Rex, where was he going to find people to join his group? The professor had even said that there was a punishment for those that would not be able to get a full group by the end of the week.
"So Rex, what's our plan?"
Lyra's voice woke him up from his bed of thoughts but before he could even say anything two girls rushed over to their seats.
"Lyra we are looking for one more person to join our group, don't you want to join us?"
Rex looked away, suddenly feeling an emptiness in his chest which he tried to brush off it's not as if they were even friends or anything so of course, he was going to choose her friends no-
"Girls, thanks for the offer but I'm already part of another group right now maybe next time..."
Rex suddenly found his heart racing.
"Are you being serious right now?"
he asked her as her friends stood there as stiff as statues.
"Y-yes! even the weirdo thinks what you are doing is odd, come on Lyra if you don't join us then you might not be able to find another group..."
Rex suddenly felt a pat on his shoulder and her hand rested there.
"You don't have to worry about me too much. I already have a group of my own, but if you see anybody that wants to join, tell them that we still have to empty slots..."
After looking at her for two straight seconds as if their eyeballs were about to fall out, they finally walked away mumbling to themselves."Are you actually trying to fail?"
Those were the first words that Rex said to her because he was so confused by her sudden action.
"You heard what the professor said, right? that failing the group project can affect your other grades. You don't have to fail for me, you should have just gone with your friends..."
she cocked her head getting up from the seat with a little chuckle.
"Don't be silly, of course, I wouldn't trade my grades for you, which is exactly why I'm coming along with you.... now let's see if we can find two more people to join your group."
She got up and started asking other students if they wanted to join, while Rex remained perplexed at her answer. she seemed to have so much confidence in him that he had forgotten to have in himself.
But he knew that this was not going to be easy and he hoped that she would not regret her decision of coming along with him, as he stood up to see if he could convince anyone he suddenly bumped into a girl that was rushing to another seat over the hall and both of them fell to the floor.
.
........After both he and the girl collided with each other Rex saw stars for a few seconds before his bearings finally came back to him and then he got up he saw that the girl was still struggling to get up as well and so he held his hand with an apology."Sorry, I didn't see you there..."Immediately his hand was slapped away after you made that comment and she glared at him with eyes burning like freshly lit flames."What do you mean you can't see me? Am I some kind of mushroom that is so tiny that it is impossible for you to see me?"After she made that comment he took a closer look at her physique and you tried not to laugh when how small she was someone would have easily confused her for a child that was crossing 15 or 14 but if she was in the university she was bound to be older than that as there was a certain age restriction for entrance into the magical University."I didn't mean it like tha-""Rex doesn't mind her, that's just how she is and I could clearly see that she was the one
As Rex walked into the dorm he could feel that somebody was following him but he pretended not to notice and kept walking towards his room it became more and more of yours and it was hard to avoid. This disturbing stalker kept following him until he finally stopped and turned. He was not surprised to see that it was his bully Kelvin that had been following him all along, and he sighed."Look whatever you have to say, can it wait till tomorrow? I need to recharge my energy right now..."As always the bully had an entourage following him, Rex could not remember a single time that he had ever seen the boy in front of him alone even when he was in the washroom he would still have somebody following him like a lost familiar."You seem to be getting cocker and cocker every day, anyways I don't have much to say. I just want to wish you good luck on your duel tomorrow."The bully said with a snicker as he looked at his friends."But I guess that you don't need any luck when you have your girl
The next morning Rex woke up with the duel in his mind he knew that there was no way he could lose, for one that will make him a bigger joke in the school when he was still trying to get up his image, and also he would have to apologize to that rude small girl that had a tongue that was a sharp as a dagger. But he was still curious why Lyra didn't want that girl in their team well there was only one way to find out and that was to ask her again today, but as he was arranging his bed he hoped that it was something that could be overlooked because he was still struggling to even find a fourth member of their group and the deadline was getting closer by the day. When he was done arranging his bed he looked at his roommates and the other boy seemed as if he was going to jump out of his skin. "What do you want now?" Even though his tone was still not friendly Rex could sense that his voice was trembling as he spoke to him. "Well I realize that you changed the lock yesterday, someth
None of the students was actually focused on the class that was going on even though they were supposed to be because their exams were coming up and they were very close. Instead, all of them were placing their bets on who would lose and who would win the duel that was going to happen after classes. Of course, as it was going to be held in the university training hall, they would first have to gain the permission of a professor who would also observe the duel so that it would not go too far and there would be no cheating or serious injuries out of it. The professor that they got permission from was called Prof Gregor who taught magical history and culture, he was usually easygoing but could draw the line when his students were coming unruly. Before the duel began Rex had asked Lyra if she had any information about his opponent and then she told him, as they were walking along the hallways towards the training hall after classes that the girl was mostly a wind enchantment user even
The time limit for the deal was about to end and if that happened without either of them taking the other down then it would be a draw. Both of them were waiting right now and especially Miranda was looking very exhausted from the fight that had already gone past an hour she was throwing everything she had in each attack and that was why she was getting more fatigued. Initially, he was waiting for her to drain herself so that he could easily subdue her and then he would easily win the fight however she was not allowing him to get close to her and she was becoming more aggressive by the moment as adrenaline was pumping through her body. "don't you think you are taking this a little too far?'' he asked her, concerning his voice and then she looked like him and scoffed. "You must seriously be joking right now, just admit it you know I'm going to win that's why you want me to give up." As she was saying this habit was ragged, and he could see that she was only moments away from col
Rex had resigned to having to take her down with force when he noticed that there was something weird with how she was absorbing and dispelling energy to make her enchantments, her fingers began to twitch and tremble which was a sign that she was obviously overworking herself. After he noticed that; he decided to give up the duel, she wasn't going to be much use in his team if she hurt herself and ended up staying on bed rest throughout the exam. That would defeat the point of having her on the team. "Miranda, why don't we just stop this, you win, okay?" He said waving his hand at her and the response that he got immediately was her sending another blade-sharp wind enchantment his way."you must be a really stupid fireball freak, you think that you can run away from this I'm going to pound you to the ground and then you will respect me! everyone in this university will give respect me!" Rex raised his eyebrows."That's not why I'm raising a white flag," he said as he adjusted his
Rex was feeling dizzy after that hectic fight and even with that severe injury that he had gotten on his head he was still holding his ground as it kept the enchantments on so that the girl called Miranda would love to go on a rampage she was visibly very upset that she had lost the duel and was not taking it well. It was even worse when she heard the words coming from around the outer area of the training Hall behind the pillars and her heart sank. They were all looking at her like a loser. Suddenly Rex spoke to her. " It's over now, I've won ..." he said while dragging the words out because he was barely even able to stand at this point. "No I can't lose to you I can't become a laughing stock this match has to go on!" he tightens the hold of his water chain making sure not to hurt her as much as he could but she even struggled all the more "I can't do this, I can't do this, I'll never be able to show my face anywhere again in this university!" And that she was saying this t
When Miranda walks into the role she could not even look at Rex she was not having any visible bandages on her but she had to stay in the healer's building because she was still physically fatigued from the fights that she had with Rex. "Miranda I'm happy that you came to see me."Rex to her as soon as she walked in and both she and Lyra looked at him with surprise. she stabbed the trembling finger at her chest and said to him." Are you happy to see me after all I did?" Lyra immediately echoed her words back."yes! how can you be happy to see her after all she did?"Rex scratched the back of his neck awkwardly not knowing that this would cause such a fuss."Well, why wouldn't I be happy to see my team members?"At this point, Miranda's eyes were so wide." Do you still want me to be a part of your team? even after all that's happened?"" yes I still want us to be a part of the team"" even after all that?""yes, Lyra makes." Rex said to his first teammates in a patient tone." she
