Nicholas saw that Cynthia must have been doing his job all while he was not around. He wondered why they have not employed someone else, maybe they're still thinking he would return.
"What have you been doing all this while? And," she froze, eyes intently glaring at him. "Wow, where did you see the money to buy this lovely suit? It looks good on you though, but why?" Of course Cynthia didn't know now that his situation had changed and he was now rich. He kept it to himself and did not bother to say anything to her. "Is your wife giving you money now? Wow, I can't believe that money can change a man like this." She said to herself but Nicholas could hear clearly. He rolled his eyes, "I don't need to offer you any explanation at all. Excuse me, Cynthia." Nicholas said but she rushed forward to stop him. "Hey, whatever business you'll face with the boss will be little compared to what I will do to you now if you don't have my money." She said, "Oh right, I'll make a transfer to you now. I'll even pay three times the money I borrowed." Nicholas said. He was so serious that Cynthia was angry at herself because she believed him. "You better don't lie to me, Nicholas. I swear it, I will send you to jail if I find out that you are lying--" her words were cut off when she checked her phone and saw an alert. But this time, Nicholas was already walking away from her sight. He stood in front of his boss's office and heaved in a deep sigh. That man liked to shout a lot and he didn't know if his eardrums were prepared for all that noise, but he stepped in any way. "Who is that lunatic who can't knock and just barge in like this!" His boss yelled out, nearly defeating Nicholas's ears...just as expected. Seeing it was Nicholas, he jumped to his feet. "You, you are in so much trouble! I won't stand for this. You come here as if nothing had happened!" He too glared at Nicholas again and frowned. "Why are you dressed like that?" "Let's just be on to business," Nicholas said, cutting him off now. "Don't cut me off while I'm speaking to you! I don't understand where you are seeing all of this pride you know?" His boss said again, but it was in a yell. "Jeez, you need to be taking things slow because of your blood pressure. Can you not talk without screaming like a wild animal?" Nicholas said, smiling. The older man's face flustered red in anger. "How dare you speak to me like this! I will not take this. You are fired now! And I promise you, there is more hell to come for you, young man." "More hell? You had better be careful so you don't get into trouble with these empty threats of yours. You know what, I don't have time for this. I've come to tender my–" Nicholas was still saying when he was cut short by his boss again. "I hear you have offended the big guns, boy." The man said. "But with you kneeling before me right now, I can put in a good word." "Kneel? Why should I do that?" asked Nicholas. He was furious now. It was at that moment that Nicholas realized that it was the work of Bob Fisher! Even though he was about to resign, how dare Bob fire him! "Who put you up to this?" Nicholas asked. "Put me up to what? Dealing with you properly after all the nonsense work you have been doing--" "Tell me now! Who asked you to do this? Bob Fisher?" Nicholas demanded. His boss was shocked to see that he knew the name. "Oh, it seems like you've realized your mistake then, huh?" "Yea I have. By waiting a while later to deal with that bastard when I can just deal with him now!" Nicholas said to himself. "How dare you call that rich man a bastard! Your pride will be the death of you!" said the older man. "You don't need to fire me. I came here to tender my resignation!" Nicholas said. "Wait, what? How can you resign? Just like this! You'll regret this! Where will you see a job anywhere else, huh!" "That's my business to tend to. You mind your own business. Try anything illegal to threaten me, and you will really lose it all." Nicholas' tone was serious. "Also," he said before his boss could say anything, "tell Bob Fisher that he will really suffer now that he has pulled this trick out of his sleeve." And with that, he walked out. He walked out and felt his blood boiling. Then he picked up his phone to call Lindsay. "Hey, I want us to fire Bob Fisher right now." He commanded. "Of course sir, anything you say." Lindsay replied. "He has gone too far now and this is only a little punishment for him." Nicholas said, thinking he needed to explain a little to Lindsay. She was still on hold so she said. "Sir, I heard something in the market. Turns out that Bob Fisher is owing millions in debts. He wants to take the company's contract money to repay his loans and get back on his feet." "What? This is good news, Lindsay. So he's weak financially and I'd still act all proud and arrogant? Now we have the key to destabilizing him now! We can terminate our contract with him." "Yes sir. We can do that. He won't believe it when it happens." Lindsay said and suddenly, Nicholas was glad for her warm spirit. "That fool. This will teach him not to mess with me again." He said to himself. "So how long will this take?" "A few minutes sir. Then Bob Fisher will no longer be part of the staff of Graham Enterprise again." Lindsay replied. On his way out, he saw Cynthia already busy with her job again. It used to be the two of them doing delivery and then sweeping and mopping too. He shook his head and was glad he was above all that now. She noticed him and rushed to meet him. "Hey at last you've dealt with that. So come in a hurry and help me." She said. Nicholas nearly bursted out in laughter. "I resigned, Cynthia. You're on your own I'm afraid." She didn't seem to believe him. "What? How is that possible? You always agree to whether the boss does, and now you resign on your own? Tell me, he fired you didn't he?" "I don't actually owe you any explanation so I'll leave you to your work." Nicholas said but Cynthia was stubborn. She kept on following him till he got to the entrance of the door, asking silly questions. But he didn't mind. He ignored me and walked out. Bob Fisher was in his office enjoying the fresh air from the AC. But he was still worried because he had not received any alert. He was supposed to have gotten the contract already but they have not given him a call yet. Someone called him and he immediately picked up, thinking it was about his deal. "Hello?" "Mr. Fisher? Where is my money!" the voice demanded. Damn it! Bob cursed. It was one of the people he owed money to! "Mr. Mike! I'm sorry for the delay, but I told you to wait till today! Why are you calling me now this early morning." He demanded. "How can you still speak to me so arrogantly. Huh! I will send you to prison for twenty long years, making life hell for you. Then I'll kill you. Okay!?" the man threatened. "Haha! You're so full of yourself Mr. Mike. Tell the whole Auro group to keep their mouths shut already. I'll settle my loan today! I'm hanging up." "Hey you there. Listen to me!--" before the man could say anything again, Bob hung up. "Foolish people. Why can't you just wait! And what's taking these people so long to send me my money!" He said furiously. There was another call. "Damn it. What is it this time!" he yelled to the phone but it was only his secretary. "Oh Sam, what is it?" "Miss Maya is here looking for you, sir." the secretary said. "What? Let her in already!" said Bob. He quickly sprayed perfume everywhere and adjusted his clothes. The last time she visited, she complained the office was smelling of cigarettes. And it was because he smoked. Maya stepped in. She wore a knee length yellow dress that showed her curves, and wore her sexy smile that attracted her to him. "Oh my love. You look so gorgeous!" Fisher said. He was licking his lips irritatedly as he admired the woman before him. Maya walked over to him and sat on his lap. "I miss you baby." She said in a seducing manner. Then stroked his hair gently. "I also missed the money you promised me. You said you could put in good words for me in Graham's Enterprise." "Of course I said so. I'll also give you all the money you want! I promise you." Bob smirked. He wanted to kiss her but she pulled away. "Once I have my money, we'll be cool again. You promised me, Bob. I'll be waiting." she said. Bob watched her leave and he almost screamed in anger. "That's it. I'm calling that Lindsay woman right now. Why haven't I seen my money!" He picked up his phone to call, but a call was coming in. It was Lindsay. "Hello, I hope you are calling to apologise to me about the payment delay?" She said slowly. "There will be no payment. The contract has been terminated.""What are you talking about, huh? Wait please!" He felt like he would have a heart attack. Payment has been cancelled? He was ruined!"You've offended the big dogs of the business industry. You brought this upon yourself. Good day."Lindsay said."Lindsay dear, are you forgetting who I am–hey, hello?" he was saying but she had already hung up."No. This can't be happening!" Bob cried out.Meanwhile, Nicholas was just on his way to work. The building was a skyscraper towering to the clouds. He still couldn't believe he owned it!He stepped down from his car and walked in. Just by the grand lobby, a woman was speaking to the receptionist. "Come on ma'am, I would really like to meet the vice president. Bob Fisher knows her! You need to treat me right." Maya said stubbornly. If she could meet Lindsay, then she would be able to submit her business proposal to her directly. It was good, she knew it. She just needed the right connection to win."Please ma'am. I've told you before. You need a
Nicholas and Lindsay walked in looking stunning. When Nicholas had first seen Lindsay, he had nearly dropped his tongue. She wore a knee length silver dress that left her fair skin exposed and made her glow bright like an angel. Her hair was made into an updo style, and little makeup was applied to enhance her look. They walked into the entrance together, taking the crowd's attention. “Wow. This is your ex husband, Nicholas!” Shawn exclaimed. Even Maya was stunned to see Lindsay looking so pretty, and Nicholas so elegant and a lot more mature. She was older than Nicholas by just over a few months, and teased him that she was his older sister. Now, Nicholas looked so handsome and bold. He had changed!“Who let you guys in, huh!” Bob rushed to meet them.“Nice to see you too. Congratulations on your wedding.” Nicholas said.“Engagement.” Maya corrected. She saw the necklace on Lindsay's neck flashed brilliantly.
Maya was with her friend, Tania. They were together at her house as Tania spent most of her time at Maya's place, especially since Nicholas had left the house now.Maya was just seated alone and she looked sad too. "Hey friend? Is everything okay?" Tania asked. "Not really. Listen, you know how I was with Bob Fisher thinking that he would help with my company? Well everything has turned upside down now." She complained bitterly."Yes you are right. I can't believe how that man can suddenly lie like this, pretending like he was rich!" Said Tania."And now I'm even in debt because I have been spending my own money on so many expenses, even the stupid engagement party!" Said Maya."Oh I'm so sorry to hear that. But I hope everything will be well soon." Tania said calmly to support her friend.Maya nodded. "Yea, I hope so too.""So something has been bugging me for a while now." Tania started to say. "Did I ever m
Nicholas confidently strode into the high-end boutique, he had walked in with Lindsay at his side. This had to be the most expensive boutique the vicinity had and he was glad he chose this place. The store's sleek, modern design was a far cry from the places he once used to frequent while he was still.... you know. Now, his newfound success demanded that he mingled with and shopped with the high and mighty. As they both moved through the aisles which were filled with racks of designer clothing, Nicholas couldn't stop himself from letting out a small smile as he walked, he watched Lindsay choose the clothing and was in awe. He never knew she knew what was in vogue in the fashion world. She had usually always been the nerdy, glassed assistant of his and now this new part of her was all the more intriguing dared he say, fascinating. Her eye for fashion was simply impeccable, and the way she moved with an air of confidence about her, that he simply found it mesmerizing."Linds
Maya continued to pace around the room, trying but failing obviously, to calm herself. "Sorry isn’t going to cut it." She told Shawn . "I’ve got enough on my plate without dealing with your irresponsibility." She said to him. She sank onto the couch, her anger giving way to evident frustration and helplessness. Shawn, not knowing what else to do, approached her cautiously, he cautiously and anxiously took a seat beside her. "Maya, talk to me. What’s really going on?" He asked her. She let out a sigh as her fingers moved to rub at her temples. They massaged the spot so tenderly but that wasn't taking away the migraine that she felt."It’s just... everything is falling apart." She said while Shawn watched her. " Nicholas is thriving, and Bob... Bob is drowning in debt. I thought he was my ticket out of this mess, but he’s dragging me down with him." She said. She almost felt like crying. Shawn knew all of these, he was there
Maya took a swing of the beer placed atop the counter, she bent her head and scotched as the unpleasant taste corroded her mouth but he pleasant feeling lifting itself off her tongue all the way into the tip of her head before sending tiny shivers all the way down to her spine.“That’s your fourth bottle,” Tania reminded her. “It’s already late, Maya, we should go.”“Don’t worry I’ll pay.”“It’s not about your finances but your safety. You are a woman and…”“Oh don’t give me that woman bullshit now!” Maya snorted. “If you want to leave, leave.”“And leave you to the perils that this bloody city has to offer?”“Would you rather share in those perils with me?”“Loads better than deserting I’d say.”Maya ignored her best friend as she continued to drink her beer. One big swing at a swing at a time until the content of it was almost down to the bottom.“What do you think Bob would do if you divorce him?” Maya thought aloud.“Same thing all men always do.”“And what is that?”“Blame you.”
Nicholas left Lindsay on the balcony and went to fetch Mal. He had promised to take him out today but they were not chance to meet at eth party because he got carried away making connections with other entrepreneurs. On his way down stairs to search for Mal, he bumped into an elderly man in a large black suit that although it looked too big for him, still managed to suit him so well it was as if it was the style he was going for. “Hey! Nicholas! How are you doing?” the man beamed as he put his arm around Nicholas. “It’s been a minute. Nice party by the way, the food is great and your wife is hospitable as well.”“My wife?” Nicholas squinted. He had a fortune he did not know about; he had a dad he did not know was still alive, was it possible he had a wife that he did not know about too?“Yeah, the nice lady that was with you earlier.”“Oh no that was my – ““Friend?” the man interjected with a mischievous smile. “They always say so at first I promise you.”“No, I was about to say vic
The sun was unable to penetrate the thick dark curtains that lined every window of the room but Maya could tell by her pure instincts that it was already well into the day. She opened her eyes and the only thing that gave her a hint that of last night was the hangover that remained from yesterday’s fun. That was when she begun to understand her surroundings. Her eyes caught the bed side stool and the orange soft glowing lamp on it, the large television hoisted against the wall just opposite the bed and the tiny shelf on the west side of the room meant for clothes. The memory of last night began to come back to her.Maya struggled to sit, it was a burdensome thing to stand so she stumbled back to the bed the instant she attempted to do so. Maya clicked on her phone and where she expected to see the time at 7:00am, she saw 10:00am. Her mouth hung open as she frantically rose and threw the sheets off from herself to reveal her bare body. She covered herself as if aware of an invisible ey
