Chapter 0006

The old man turned and mumbled something to the manager. The manager nodded in reply and led a confused Jason out of the office.

"What was that?" Jason asked, he had expected the old man to dole out cash immediately but the man's response wasn't encouraging.

"Well... Your grandfather doesn't like your mother." The manager said as if it was a painful thing,

"Huh? Why?" Jason asked,

"Well... When your father brought you and your mother home and declared to everyone that he wanted to marry her, your grandfather kicked against it because he wanted your father to marry from a noble family. Your father wanted none of that and decided to run away with you and your mother. It was on the night of their escape that they had the accident which claimed the life of your father. As I told you earlier, we did not find the bodies of you and your mother so we assumed that you both had burnt to ashes in the flames, but grandfather insisted that you both were still alive and had an investigation team created solely for finding the both of you."

"Well... His investigation team surely did a great job in finding us." Jason said sarcastically and looked away in annoyance,

The manager had expected Jason to be happy with the news that he was a potential heir of the biggest company in the city but the look on the young man's face said otherwise.

"So he's going to let my mum die like that?" Jason asked in a low voice, the manager could feel the pain that the young man carried.

"No, nothing like that. He ordered me to escort you to the hospital and pay her bills."

Jason's face lit up like a Christmas tree when he heard the manager's words. "Are you serious?"

"Yes." The manager himself couldn't help but smile at the young man's show of joy.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go!"

The manager drove Jason to the hospital in a sleek and black Benz that was usually seen among the elite members of society.

The manager parked the car in the parking lot and was about to step out when Jason spoke up, "Leave this to me, I can handle it."

"Are you sure?" The manager shot him a quizzical look,

"Yeah," Jason replied with a fake smile,

"Okay." The manager shrugged and handed him a special credit card, one that could only be used by the richest men in society.

Jason's eyes glistened as he held the card in his hands like an egg. He didn't even know when he blurted, "Thank you, sir."

The manager's eyes widened and he began to stutter, "D.. don't call me s..sir, you're the heir, I'll serve you someday."

"Doesn't change anything." Jason winked at him and stepped out of the car straight to the counter to pay the bills.

"Next person." The accountant at the counter said without looking up,

"Hello, I'm here to pay the bills of a certain Eleanor Smith," Jason said calmly,

At the sound of the voice and the mention of the name, Eleanor. The accountant looked up with a frown.

"You again? What are you doing here? I thought your mother was chased out of the hospital?" She asked rudely,

"Well... She was, but I'm here to pay her bills so that you can continue treatment." Jason said while trying to hide the embarrassment on his face.

"Pay her bills?" She asked loudly with a wicked smirk on her face, "Oh! Has your wife finally given you some money?"

Jason frowned and placed the card on the table, "Just collect your money and let me go."

The accountant rolled her eyes at him and turned her eyes toward the card on the table.

"What?!" She quickly grabbed the card and began to inspect it, "how did you get this?"

"That doesn't matter, just take your money," Jason replied matter-of-factly,

"You stole it right?" She jabbed her index finger in the air towards him, "No wait... You're too much of a coward to steal something as valuable as this. You picked it on the street, right? That has to be the most reasonable explanation, you picked it on the street."

Jason sighed and face-palmed, he was starting to get annoyed by the unnecessary probing of this accountant. She seemed to have noticed the change on Jason's face because she stopped speculating and scanned the card for payment.

[Beep!]

[Insufficient Funds]

"Ha!" The accountant yelled as if she made an achievement, "I knew it! Nothing good can come out of you!"

"What do you mean?" Jason asked in confusion,

"Don't act stupid now like you weren't aware all along. There isn't any money in the card, not even one dime!" She yelled to his face,

"No, that can't be possible. Please try again." Jason pleaded,

"I try again? You must be out of your mind." She said and flung the card to the floor, "Go get a life and stop picking empty credit cards!"

Jason suddenly got annoyed at her rudeness, he picked the card up and yelled back at her, "Is that how to treat a customer?! I'm telling you that there's money in it, you just have to try again!"

"Well, Mr. Young Dumb and Broke, the machine is saying something else and nothing you can do right now will make me try it again." The nurse snapped at him, she was a bit surprised that Jason talked back at her but she was not ready to let him go without tongue-wagging him a bit.

Jason pressed his hand to his forehead thinking that he would make this annoying female try the card again. He was quite certain that there was money in it unless the manager had given him a card without money. Well, if that was the case, this situation was about to become more embarrassing than it seemed.

"Didn't you hear me?" She snapped at him,

"What?" He answered,

"I said move! You're holding up the line of people who want to pay." She yelled,

"But I want to pay too, I have the money in this card." He waved the card in front of her,

"And I've told you that I'm not trying that card again so move!" She yelled louder, attracting everyone's attention.

"What's going on here?" A masculine voice came from the side, causing both of them to look in the direction of the voice.
