Chapter 2: A Surprise Call

With Kagern's bulky build, David, who was a colony of women and alcohol, could not protect himself from him if he truly wanted beat him up. However, Kagern was here to ask for some money. That's why he just clenched his hands, trying hard to contain his anger.

Erica pulled David back when she saw Kagern clenching his hands into fists.

"Darling, don't give this dog a chance to bite you. Give him some time to register what has just happened to him. It's not easy for a broke *ss like him to lose a beauty like me, after all."

Hearing this, Kagern couldn't help but laugh.

"Ha! Ha!"

"Give me some time to register? A sucker like you? Who told you you're that beautiful?"

His words made the smile on Erica's face freeze.

"What did you say? That I'm not that beautiful? A sucker, eh? Davey, did you hear that? How dare a loser like him call me..."

Kagern cut her off by saying, "I'm not here to argue with you." Shifting his gaze to David, he added, "I'm here for my money."

David furrowed his eyebrows.

"Which money?"

"Didn't you sell our script? I want my share."

"Oh!" David exclaimed, reaching for his phone.

"Remind me your account number."

Kagern was about to say his number when Erika snatched David's phone away.

Even David was confused.

"What are you doing?"

"He called me a sucker," Erika explained.

Kagern let out a chuckle.

"So what? Was I supposed to cry and beg after you said we're breaking up?"

Erica nodded her head, staring into his eyes without shame or remorse.

"That's what every man can do for a beautiful girl like me."

"Ha! You're wrong and so shameless. Plus, I was already considering dumping you. Thanks for making it easy for me."

Though Kagern said this, he was so heartbroken. However, now that things had unfolded like this, he knew begging and crying would not change anything. It would only please her and make her feel like she was something precious.

She was, but not anymore after this incident. That's why he pretended that her infidelity was OK with him to make her feel sad, too.

"He's not giving you a penny then!" she replied.

"Huh?!"

"I said," she said as she pointed at him. "My Davey is not giving you anything if you don't cry and beg me to remain with you."

Kagern burst out laughing.

"Ha! Ha! Cry and beg you? Dream on, b*tch! I'm not here to ask for a donation. It's my money."

Though he laughed, Kagern was silently in disbelief.

'Ask her to remain with me?'

'How shameless!'

This time, it was David who let out a chuckle. "Your money? What if I refuse? Do you have any witness who saw me co-writing with you?"

Kagern knew David was right. He had no way to sue him if he decided not to give him his share. They didn't have a written contract, after all. However, he couldn't just give up.

"That would mean you won't get any of my assistance anymore. I bet you know how useful I am, right?"

Kagern had a grin on his face, thinking this would work, only to be shocked by David's reply.

"Oh! So you think I still need you? Ha! Ha! Let me tell you, I approached you because I wanted to win the competition with my brothers, remember?"

David's family had a few shares in the most luxurious hotel in Surreal City, Golden Heart Hotel. To determine the heir, they asked David and his brothers to use their talents and make some money. The one who would make the most money by the end of a three-months period would become the heir.

Now, not only David had made money from selling their script, he was also going to become famous. He had won the competition. How could he continue to be friends with a pauper like Kagern?

"It's OK if you don't want my assistance anymore, but you can't refuse to give me my share just like that."

Seeing the sadness on Kagern's face made Erika feel elated. He had said she was not that beautiful when her beauty was the only thing she bragged about. It was normal for her to feel happy when she saw him sad.

"He! He! What if we still refuse? What can a broke *ss like you do to us?"

"Erika, I'm asking for my money. Are you this heartless? Don't you remember all the sacrifices I made for you?"

"That's what I wanted. Now you're begging me to remember. Try to also cry!"

Kagern gritted his teeth.

"I'm not going to cry or beg a wh*re like you. Besides, this money is for Eric. He's in danger."

"Don't use my twin brother's name in this!"

"I'm not lying. He's in danger."

Just now, Erica's twin brother called Kagern asking him for help. He said he had ran into a group of gangsters who force people to buy their products while on his way to a computer shop.

The gangsters had dragged him somewhere secluded and threatened to harm him if Kagern didn't send the money they were asking for.

Kagern had ran into some guys like these before so he knew how dangerous this was. If he didn't get the money, Eric, a best friend to him and a twin brother to his girlfriend, could even lose his life.

Thus, Kagern tried to call David to ask his share on a script they had co-wrote. When he didn't pick up his calls, Kagern decided to come.

On the way, he dialed Erica's number many times to inform her about her twin brother's situation, but she didn't pick up.

Who could have thought that they were busy cheating on him?

"I said, don't use my twin's name in this. Just beg me and apologize for calling me a sucker if you want my Davey to give you his money."

Kagern was going to remind her that it was his money when his phone rang.

Perhaps it was the gangsters who kidnapped Eric.

However, there, on the screen, a name that has last appeared there 3 years ago, could be seen.

"Dad?!"

"It's me, son! I'm out of prison and thought you're the first person I should call. Hurry up and come home! I don't want to be the CEO anymore after those images. It's time you take control."

'Sweet mother of Jesus!'
