Chapter 7: Belinda Torou

Kagern's words stung Jennifer like a scorpion. She remembered saying them. How arrogant and overconfident her tone was when she said she would lick his shoes if he could pay.

'Let me just apologize!'

With her head lowered, she said, "Sir, I'm so sorry! I was just... joking!"

When a few seconds passed without receiving any reply, she decided to raise her gaze only to see Kagern staring at her with a mockery smirk on his face, his gaze unwavering.

'Is he really going to make me lick his shoes?'

She shuddered at the thought of it but summoned her courage to say, "Sir, you cannot tell me to lick your shoes. It was a joke!"

Both Kagern and Bingle were quite but Jennifer's guilty conscious pushed her to keep talking.

"Miss Spears, I'm the hotel's receptionist. Doing as he suggests can bring disrespect to the hotel."

When Bingle heard her name being mentioned, she snorted and said, "So, was it an honor when you disrespected him?"

"No! But..."

"No buts! Do what you said you would do and don't drag me into this again. I was not here when you said it."

With Miss Spears words, Jennifer knew she didn't have any other choice but to kowtow to Kagern and...

She could not bring herself to seeing herself licking Kagern's shoes, but he was a VIP client. She would be stupid to offend him again.

Just as she left the counter and fell on her knees in front of Kagern, the later took a step away, heading deep into the hotel without saying anything.

Jennifer didn't know if it was forgiveness or rejection so kept kneeling, not sure whether to stand or keep kneeling.

Miss Spears who could speak for her was long gone, chasing after Kagern.

"Sir, this way!"

Kagern turned to look at her asking, "Sir?"

"I'm sorry, sir... No! No! Jayden! I'm sorry, Sir Jayden."

The guy in front of him was, on top of being young, so handsome and low-key, a millionaire and a V-VIP of the hotel. How could she just call him Jayden?

Kagern couldn't help but let out a chuckle.

"Bingle, I didn't know you're funny."

Bingle didn't know what to say about that. She just blushed and gestured for him, "This way!"

Kagern glanced at the direction she was giving him. It was the way to a private elevator for the presidential suite. A pathway some people even paid just to walk through for just a few seconds and take some pictures there.

Instead of a red carpet, it was a golden one here, a symbolic of a golden heart to mean that whoever walked through it was kind, rich and loved donating to those in need.

"I have a friend working at the restaurant. Just go back to your job. I'll inform you after I meet her."

The pronoun her shattered all the sweet fantasies Bingle had started to build in her mind about Kagern and her. However, she couldn't show it. Putting on the best of her smiles, she said, "OK, Sir Jayden!"

Kagern let out another chuckle when he heard sir.

"Please, remove sir! And if Jayden is too long, just say Jay! The choice is yours. It's either Jayden or Jay. Nothing else."

This made Bingle blush even redder. How could she call him Jay? The dude was probably a son to some powerful family.

"It's Jay... den. I... I choose Jayden."

"OK then!" Kagern said turning around to go, a big smile on his face.

Just yesterday, Bingle was his manager, a mile away from his level. To him, she was as beautiful and bright as the sun, too far to be reached, something created only to be ogled at.

Now... now she was the one seeing him that way to the extent she couldn't even say his name without stuttering.

'Life is so unpredictable!'

He could only conclude that.

'Are all the people going to see me that way after knowing that I'm rich now?'

'That would be bad news. I want my friends to continue seeing me as me.'

'I pray that Belinda doesn't see me that way after she knows the truth! I want my relationship with her and her family to continue be the same.'

With these thoughts, Kagern made his way inside the hotel restaurant and started wandering his eyes for Belinda. They swept past well-dressed couples sitting on tables for two, past the...

'There she is!'

Only her back was facing him but he could not mistake her. No one else had such long black hair or such an hourglass figure among the waitresses.

"Linda!"

He didn't need to call her again because as soon as the name Linda left his lips, Belinda perked up and turned around.

"Brother Jay!"

She then rushed to him still carrying the serving tray in her hands.

"What are doing still dressed like that?"

She was furious as she asked that question.

"Go wear the uniform before Mr. Hako sees you! I've lied to him multiple times that you're here."

This is how Belinda was. Always there for him. She and her family, especially her father, Uncle Torou, had been like the second family to Kagern after Mr. Stanley died.

Uncle Torou was Mr. Stanley's childhood friend. When he died, Mr. Stanley's wife fired him from their company and framed him because, on top of accepting Kagern and swearing to seek justice for him, he was even the only person who could speak for Lilyon.

After that, they lost all their properties and this made life for Belinda's sick mother so difficult. Uncle Torou fell into a depression after he found that Mr. Stanley's wife had made sure that no one in Surreal City would hire him.

Thus, Belinda had to drop out of school to do part jobs to help them.

Despite all that, they never chased Kagern out of their house or show any discomfort. That's why Kagern could not sit around when he had gotten rich. He had to repay them.

Belinda was still talking.

"Brother Jayden, what are you smiling at? Go and..."

Kagern grabbed her shoulders, interrupting her. "Linda, thank you for your concern but don't worry. I'm not here for my job. I'm here to take you home. To tell you that you're going to go back to school."

"Brother, whatever kind of prank you're trying to pull on me this time has failed. Just go... "

"It's not a prank. Come with me!" he said as he pulled her. "I'll explain it to you once we reach somewhere private."

"Swear to me that it's not a prank."

"Linda, trust me! I wouldn't joke with such things."

"OK then! Let's find an empty table to sit. I won't go if I find it to be those stupid dreams of yours."

This was not the first time Kagern raising her hopes. Most of the times he said he was about to sell a script for a huge amount of money. He would make her believe that good days were coming, only to be disappointed a few hours later.

"Did you manage to sell one of your scripts this time?" she asked as they found a table and settled on its chairs.

Kagern didn't want to tell her all about his father whom she didn't know about so he just nodded.

With an excited happy voice, she asked, "How much?"

"A hundred million dollars."

She jumped in the air.

"What? Come again!"

"100 million dollars."

"Ha! Are you for real?"

He just shrugged with a huge grin on his face.

Kagern was not a liar. She knew that. However, his words were too good to be believed.

That's why she jumped and grabbed him as if he was some kind of a criminal.

"You're lying!"

"I'm not!"

"Admit it! You're!"

Tears had started to form into her emerald eyes because of how much she was laughing.

Just then, an unpleasant, harsh and familiar voice startled them.

"Go back to your jobs, you fools," it was Mr. Hako, a chubby middle aged man in charge of the waiters and waitresses. He has always been bad news to Kagern and Belinda after the later refused to sleep with him.

"I'll make sure to cut your wage in half and put you on Soon-To-Fired list because of this stupidity," he added.
