Still A Hero

When Gin opened his eyes, he was blinded by a very bright light. It took some time to blink his eyes.

"My Lord! Finally, you wake up!"

Gargan dropped her face on Gin's chest. He pushed her away with his finger. Gin watched his surrounding, he was in a tent. The hot air made him sweat until his clothes were wet.

Talking about clothes, he just realized the clothes he wore were different from yesterday. Gin looked at Gargan who smiled innocently.

"I changed your clothes," she said with a creepy wide smile.

Changing his clothes meant Gargan saw his body. Gin's face tensed even more.

"Your clothes are burnt, My Lord! I didn't do anything!"

Burnt? Gin suddenly remembered about Amenus. "Where is he?" His voice was heavier than before.

"He ran away after you tore his body."

"Amenus?"

"Yes, My Lords!"

Gin pensive. He didn't remember anything. The last thing he remembered was the archdemons that had suddenly appeared. He was heavily attacked and he thought he was unconscious. He never remember he had hurt Amenus.

"You lost control, My Lord. Gosh! That time was so crazy! You almost died out of mana!" Gargan put his head on Gin's stomach.

"Lost control? Out of mana?"

That was why he didn't remember anything about yesterday. Gin pushed Gargan's head away by force, he sat on the bed. He looked around more carefully. The tent was so hot and there was hardly anything else there.

Gin stood up and opened the lid of the tent. He was wide awake when he saw dry land and burnt remains of trees. This place looked like the aftermath of a great fire, some of the ground cracked and split. There were no giant trees anymore, even the grass had been burnt.

The elves were busy gathering wood, some seemed to be cooking something up, while the little children laughed happily when they found something in the ashes.

"Did I do it?" Although he sounded calm, Gin's heart was very chaotic. He couldn't imagine what his fight was like yesterday.

"Amenus' troops burned the giant trees, but the rest is due to your strength, My Lord."

"And these elves didn't kill me..."

Gargan laughed. That was a stupid question for her. It seemed Gin still didn't understand his power. It was impossible for Amenus to kill him, let alone the elves.

Gargan's laughter stopped when he saw the guilty look in Gin's eyes. The eyes that had always been cold and sharp had softened and looked weak.

"Don't feel sorry. My Lord, you may have a body like a human now, but remember who you are. This view is nothing compared to what you will do at the end of the world. When the day comes, you must not hesitate, My Lord."

Gin closed his eyes for a moment. What Gargan said was right, he should focus on his goal. Gin tried to remember his family's last moment and Gray who might have died by now. He let his anger overwhelm him and pushed aside his old human side. When his eyes opened again, the cold gaze was back.

He stepped outside, inhaling the pungent air and the smell of burning. The goblins' corpses had been gathered together and burned. Everyone was busy scavenging for the remains of the wood they would use to set up their tents.

Gin stood in the middle of them who were busy. At this point, they should already know he was not a hero. But some children who were running around, stopped in front of him. A little boy with bunny ears carrying a wildflower. He looked shy in front of Gin.

The other little elf girl took his hand. With a more serious face, she pulled the bunny boy to Gin.

"We found this," said the little elf.

The bunny boy gave the flower to Gin. Although confused by their reactions, Gin accepted it. The boy immediately hid behind the elf's back.

"Sister, he received it," he said shyly.

"Where did you find this?" Gin didn't see any living grass or flowers around here.

The bunny boy was too shy to answer, so the little elf came forward to replace him. "He picked them yesterday and kept them for you, Sir."

Gin gasped. The boy looked after this flower for him, despite the chaos that happened yesterday. The ice in his heart melted a bit.

"That's amazing. You're so great."

Gin ruffled the bunny boy's hair. He froze then. The boy reminded him of Gray. He often stroked Gray's hair like that. If only Gray was here, he would be jumping with joy to see the rabbit. Maybe they could become friends.

Gin dismissed the thought. It was better to focus on the mission. It had been five thousand years since he had died, and he had no idea how long that time had passed on Earth. Maybe Gray was no longer in the world.

The bunny boy's ears went straight when Gin touched his head. His smile widened, very cutely. Then he ran with the little elf and the other kids while jumping up and down happily.

"I didn't know you could get close to a child with your grim face."

Gin turned around, Leogus was there. His face was handsome and arrogant as always. There was not a single scratch on him.

"You are still alive."

"You think I will die from the fire?"

Leogus glanced at him with a frown, a second later he looked away with his arms folded. "Anyway, thank you... For saving my people."

Gin was surprised. He thought he would be blasphemed by the elves for destroying their kingdom.

"I destroyed this land."

"But we are still alive. Many of us. If you don't fight Amenus, no one will survive."

Their conversation caught the attention of many people. They started to surround him with grateful gazes.

This made Gin uncomfortable. He didn't deserve to be thanked, let alone to be stared at like that. He wasn't here to save them.

"I'm not the hero you think I am. I'm here to..." Gin wasn't sure if he should tell them. "I'm here to destroy the world."

It was silent for a while. Those people should be angry and stoned Gin, but that didn't happen.

Their eyes didn't change. Even Leogus smiled too. Yes, he wasn't hallucinating, Leogus smiled sincerely.

"I'm a disaster. The cursed thing you're afraid of." Gin said it more clearly.

Leogus waved his hand like it was nothing. "If we don't die by your hands, we will die by Amenus. At least you give us more time to live."

The others nodded in agreement. "You saved us. You are a hero!"

Gin couldn't say anything else. This was not a situation he had ever imagined.
