The Holy Gargan

Gargan turns into a beautiful woman. She was a terrible creature with unstable emotions, but now there's only a beautiful lady before me.

Some of the elves who are still there are amazed, including Bartos, Leogus, and even King Sarkan.

Gargan stands up, she gives them a glare. "They tortured me with spells for this whole time," she says.

I can see hatred in her eyes. She hisses like a snake and then growls like a lion. A little strange for me, who is not used to seeing beautiful women act like animals. But if she was tortured for that long, it is reasonable for her to hate them.

I wonder what happened to her. But there are better times than now because people are starting to get curious and start new rumors.

"He's a true hero."

"He can turn Gargan into a beautiful woman."

"I've never seen this before."

"He's very strong."

All of them are just whispers, but too many people do it until it is almost a scream in my ear. I turn to Bartos to make sure I finish this battle. However, I don't think he can decide that. He is still frozen with his mouth wide open.

"We'll talk somewhere else."

I ask Gargan to stay away from there. We walk around the meadow, heading for a forest with more normal-sized trees. This forest looks like an ordinary forest and is pretty quiet to talk. No one will hear us here.

"Tell me what—"

I can't finish my words. Gargan suddenly kneels down to me again. She put her right hand to her chest.

"I am at your service, My Lord. Please give me your mercy by taking me as your slave."

"Slave? I don't need that."

She lifts her face with teary eyes. "My Lord, please consider me as a tool!" she says earnestly.

I sigh then sit on a mossy rock. Gargan is still kneeling, she staunchly waits for the answer she wants.

"You said you're a sword, didn't you?"

"Yes, My Lord! I am the holy sword!" She sounds more excited because I'm curious about her.

"Then how did you become a sword. I mean, I don't see any sharp part of you."

I pay attention to every curve of her body; nothing looks like a sword. But somehow, she blushes.

"I can be a sword if you want, My Lord."

"Like a shapeshifter?"

"I'm not, My Lord. I'm a sword!"

"Then show me!"

Gargan looks pleased. She smiles like a child who just gets a candy.

She stands right away. Her cloak flutters with the evening breeze. She takes a few steps back and then turns around, spinning slowly. Sparkles of light surround her like fireflies.

"I can only show my true form if you bind me, My Lord."

"I have no rope."

She giggles. "We don't need that."

She stops spinning, and slowly, her feet float as if the fireflies lift her up.

"Do you wish to bind me as your own, My Lord?"

I pause. If she really is a sword, I will need her. But I need to learn how to use human-sword. Moreover, I'm unsure why she wants to be mine so badly when she doesn't know who I am. What if she knows that I'm a disaster?

"Yes."

Whatever it is, I'll think about it later.

Gargan drowns in the light. Those fireflies gather together and start to form a sword. The shape of the sword grows clearer as the light disappears. The sword flies and stops in my hand.

[New Equipment Received]

[Holy Sword Gargan]

[Strength: 5600]

[Levels: 1]

[Class: SSS+]

It's really a sword, a strong one. This sword has a silver hilt and a white diamond at the tip of its handle. A beautiful sword that I've only seen in comic books.

{I'm your sword at your service, My Lord.}

I can hear Gargan's voice in my head.

"Are you going to betray me?"

{No! Why would I betray you, My Lord!}

I swing Gargan in the air, it feels very sturdy but light. I approach a tree then slash it once. The tree instantly split in two, falling in an elegant cut.

"It's powerful. Why must you be an ugly creature if you are this strong?"

I can feel Gargan's anger. We are connected as owner and sword. The joy, sadness, and anger that she harbors, I can feel it all.

{It's all because of those damn elves! Their ancestors cursed me into a monstrous being and sealed my power.}

I take a deep breath, not ready for Gargan's sad story. "You were cursed long enough?"

{For ten thousand years, My Lord.}

I can't say anything. Of course, this is a different world from the earth. But I'm sure ten thousand years is a very long time. Tortured for so long by generation after generation, she must be lived in hell.

Gargan suddenly glows again. She floats up and turns back into a woman.

"I served the previous hero, but it didn't take long because he couldn't release my curse. We only made a brief agreement," she pauses for a moment to see my reaction.

Then she continues. "To kill Amenus. But we failed."

My eyes widen hearing that name again. As if she understands my surprise, Gargan nods. She steps slowly on the grass, spinning in front of me. She seems to enjoy her human body.

"When we bond, I can see all your stories, My Lord. But don't worry! I always keep my master's secrets!"

I don't know what to say. She knows who I am, yet she still calms down.

"You still want to be my sword even though you know who I am?"

"I know all about you, My Lord. About your previous life, about Rose, Gray, and Amenus. Oh, also about the flying bunny! I know your goals and what the system wants from you."

"Then? You're still going to stay with me?"

Gargan smiles warmly. She bows down in front of me.

"I'm a holy sword. I was created to form this world, and I also created to end it. It's my destiny to serve you, My Lord."

I gulp. It surprises me that the holy sword has to end the world. If that's true, then my meeting with Gargan was fate. Or it is formatted by the system.

We are silent for quite a while. It takes me a moment to think about this while my mind is still a mess, and it all happen very sudden, too soon after I left the prison.

The sun is already gone, and the sounds of the nocturnal beasts are starting to bother me. Who knows what kind of animals live in this world? It is better to avoid them than die in vain.

"All right. Then we have to find Amenus first."

We return to the trees of the elves. The trees are now surrounded by lights. At first, I think these are fireflies, but after we get closer, I realize those are balls of light floating around.

The elves admire us, especially the men who see Gargan. Even though Gargan growls at them, those elves are even more amazed.

I return to the top of the tree, heading for the elf castle. Bartos waits for me nervously. His eyes avoid me as I go back inside.

Bartos suddenly falls to the floor. Everyone follows him except Leogus.

"Please forgive me, My Lord Hero. I have sinned!" he begs and cries.

I roll my eyes. I want to scream in his face if I'm not a Hero, but I can't do that as long as they haven't given me any information.

All eyes are now on Gargan. Their eyes sparkle as if a miracle stands in front of them.

"I didn't know holy swords existed," The King mutters.

"That's because your brain is too small, stupid elf!" Gargan is ready to attack them.

Everyone gasps, they don't expect such bad words to come out of the holy sword. None of them are aware of what they have been doing to this sacred being.

"Now tell me, where is Amenus?" I stop the fight before being ignored again.

Gargan immediately returns to my side while those elves clear their throats. They stare at each other, dodging my question as best they can. They must be hiding something.

"We only know he went North. But if you want to know more, you can ask the oracle," Leogus is the only one who answers me.

"Take me to the oracle right now."

"You can't. You can only see it during the full moon, and it's tomorrow night."

Hell, I have to wait again. I have no other choice. I'm still determining if I'll be able to find Amenus myself in this foreign and vast world. It will only waste time to go around the world.

"Besides, don't you want to know who Amenus really is and how he got here?" Leogus baits me with that question.

But he's right. I'm inquisitive about why Amenus got here. I came because of reincarnation and getting a new body. But he came with the same appearance, even his scar.

I have to wait another day. They let me rest in the luxurious room that I previously used. I can sleep on a soft mattress for the first time in my new life. They also give me a lot of delicious food.

Let me enjoy this world before I destroy it.

They take me to a place, quite far from the giant trees, the next night. We step into the forest, lit by a moon that looks like the moon I knew. Leogus personally escorts me to the oracle. Meanwhile, Gargan stays by my side as a sword.

Leogus doesn't say anything as he walks me over. I can't guess him, whether I can trust him or not. He might take me to a remote place and kill me, but I have Gargan now, at least I'll be safe.

Leogus stops in front of a clearing in the middle of the forest. He closes his eyes, his mouth moves to chant a spell that I don't understand.

He swipes his hand in the air, and suddenly a tree appears in our midst. The tree is covered by a curtain that makes it invisible.

It's a golden tree. The leaves are also made of gold, and gold dust surrounds them.

"This is our oracle, the tree of knowledge," Leogus says.

When I heard about the oracle, I imagined a wicked old lady who knew about the future. But in front of me there is only a golden tree.

I follow Leogus toward the tree. The light makes me a little dazzled. A golden leaf falls so slowly that I can see its movement. I stretch out my hand to catch it. And suddenly, something happens.

Once the leaf touches my palm, my consciousness is pulled into it. When I realize I'm already in an empty void. Endless darkness surrounds me, makes me unable to see my own hands.

'I've been waiting for you, Gerald. Or now I have to call you Gin.'

A woman's voice comes. This is not Gargan's voice. The voice is softer and gives me goosebumps as if the person is speaking right beside my ear.

"What are you?"

'Is it important?'

"No. Just tell me where Amenus is now!"

'That's not a wise question. Who and why should be more important to you.'

"I don't understand."

'Why must the worlds be destroyed? Why are you chosen? And who told you to do it? Who made the system? And...' She pauses for a second.

'Who was the real owner of your body. Isn't that more important?'

"My body is mine. I have lived in this body since I came to the world."

Another thought hits me. What if I wasn't born in the form of a baby, but I entered the body of a baby? The idea gives me goosebumps. That's too crazy to happen. I've only seen that kind of thing in horror movies.

'Fine if you don't want to ask. Let me show you the worlds.'

The boundless darkness suddenly fades away. Buildings and roads took shape, slowly becoming more apparent.

I can see everything around me. I know this place. This is my previous world, earth.
