Chapter 4

"It's not that I don't want to, but...."

Lucas was naturally conflicted. The fact that he had a family was shocking, let alone the truth that his family was the wealthiest in the city.

Louis looked at his twin closely. "What are you waiting for?"

Lucas looked into Louis's eyes intently. He paused for a moment and then spoke. "Wouldn't it be more beneficial for you if I didn't return?"

Louis took a deep breath. It turned out that convincing his brother was harder than he imagined. "Lucas, remember, blood is thicker than water. I live in luxury, allowing strangers to live in luxury, but my brother cannot even have this glory."

"Although blood is thicker than water, humans will think of benefits for themselves," Lucas said. He paused, remembering something. "Unless my departure is unfavorable to you."

Louis let out a long breath. His face turned grim. "I don't want to seem pathetic in front of you. I hate to say this, but I must be honest if I'm not doing well."

Lucas was surprised. Louis did look pale and not as fit as usual. He suspected that his brother's health was failing. "What? Why?"

Louis looked sad when he said this. "I'll tell you, but promise to keep this a secret."

"Of course. I won't tell anyone." Lucas promised.

Louis took a deep breath and let it out slowly. "I'm dying. If I die before I have a new head of household, it will jeopardize the Carter family."

Lucas could not contain his shock. "Don't you have many experts?"

Louis felt anxious all at once. He rubbed his face roughly. "Lucas, come on. Even a wolf pack needs a leader. When I leave, maybe the Carter family will be fine. But how long can that last?"

Lucas shook his head quickly. "That's not what I meant. With the Carter family's current wealth, wouldn't bringing in the greatest doctor be no big deal?"

Louis sighed. What his twin said was true. If it were as easy as he thought, he would live a normal life now. "The thing is, there aren't many people in this world I can trust. Everyone looks good when we are victorious, but when we show our weaknesses, everyone will try to bring us down."

"Then what makes you trust me? We've never lived together. Even though we're brothers, we don't understand each other's nature." Lucas argued. Even though they're brothers, they've never lived together and don't understand each other.

"Who says I don't understand you?" Louis said. "After all, we were born from the same mother and have the same father."

Lucas looked at him with an incredulous gaze.

Louis let out a long sigh. "Alright, alright, I don't fully understand you, but we do have some things in common. Intelligence and leadership."

Lucas sighed softly. "Louis, sorry, I need some time."

Lucas stood up, but Louis immediately grabbed his hand. "Wait. You can't just leave!"

Lucas looked at Louis intently. "Why? Even though we're twins, that's not enough to make me return."

Louis was tired of Lucas's erratic behavior. "Our parents are dead. You're all I have. Do I have to live alone when I'm dying like this?!"

Suddenly, Louis clutched his chest, showing an expression of pain.

Chris, who saw Louis's anger, immediately calmed him down. "Young master, calm yourself."

"Chris...." Louis made a gesture to his assistant. Chris nodded. He took a brown envelope from the briefcase and gave it to Lucas.

Lucas quickly opened the envelope and saw some photos. It was a picture of Yosef Carter and a woman. Lucas recognized him because Yosef had appeared in the media several times. However, the woman beside Yosef never seemed to be exposed. "This is our mother?"

Louis nodded.

Lucas's fingers touched the photo soulfully. After years of claiming to be an orphan, Lucas finally knew what her parents looked like.

Louis's eyes began to tear up. All the emotions he'd been holding back just spilled out. "Lucas, I was alone all this time. You are the same. Don't you want to avenge our mother's death?"

Lucas shook his head. Hia tears slowly flowed. He felt mixed feelings. Angry, happy, sad, moved, all mixed. "I won't let you be alone anymore."

Louis hugged his brother without hesitation. "Thank you, thank you."

"As long as I live, I won't let you die." Lucas hugged Louis so tightly. He had always wanted to have a family. Now that he had one, he would not waste any time. "We will survive together and be amazing."

Louis nodded. He felt so happy that she was moved to tears. "I knew... I knew it would happen. Thank you."

"We will also avenge our mother's death," Lucas spoke again, her voice sounding shaky.

Chris, who saw that, smiled too. The two siblings were finally reunited after such a long separation.

Louis smiled warmly, but seeing the wound on Lucas's face, the young man's expression turned serious. "I already know everything. "I saw how they looked down on you."

"You saw it?" Lucas wiped away the tears running down his cheeks.

"I'm not going to let this go by." There was so much anger in Louis's eyes.

"I can handle it myself. You don't have to worry."

"I know you can handle it, but you'll need some things." Louis's gaze shifted to Chris, who was still standing. "Get Lucas's."

Chris nodded and picked up a small limited edition bag. A $30,000 bag. This was to be one of the most expensive bags in the world. Chris handed the bag to Lucas.

"Open it, it's yours," Louis said.

Lucas nodded. By any measure, this was the most expensive thing he had ever held.

Inside the bag, there was a black wallet with several other cards.

"That is your identity card as Lucas Carter. There are some important documents, too, like a passport and a driver's license in the name of Lucas Carter." Louis explained.

Lucas saw a black atm card with no pattern, just a chip and the letters LC as the owner's initials. On the back, there was a pattern of a dragon spitting out fireballs. At first glance, it looks like a toy card, but Lucas knows this is no ordinary card. This is Universal Bank's black card. To use this card, one had to deposit 500 million.

"Louis, isn't this too much?" Lucas was about to return the card, but Louis refused.

The young man smiled warmly at his brother.  "It doesn't contain much, only one million. Don't refuse."

He had expected this to happen, so he was forced to lie. In fact, the contents of the card amounted to one billion dollars.

"This is too much." Lucas still tried to refuse.

"This is only a small part of the Carter family fortune." Johnson chuckled at Lucas's funny-looking expression. "Don't worry, mine is much more."

Lucas let out a long sigh. It looked like he couldn't win this debate and accept the card.

In addition to the atm card, there was an exclusive access card to enter all places associated with the Carter family. Just by showing the card, he could be honored like a mayor.

The last and most surprising was the access card to the Carter family treasure storage. So far, only the head of the family was allowed to hold the card.

"Louis, isn't this too much?"
