Chapter 7

The three men in the room turned their heads toward the door. All three had the same expression, that of surprise. However, the most surprised person here was Jones.

The well-dressed man who had just entered the room was George, the college's chancellor. A few minutes ago, someone from the mysterious Carter family contacted him. Their party requested that George give preferential treatment to a certain student who was under the protection of the Carter family.

Without hesitation, George immediately agreed. Based on the information that the Carter family provided, the person was in the category of outstanding students, so protecting him was not a difficult thing.

Although George had the authority to involve more people in protecting this particular student, he chose to do it directly and save time.

He contacted Jones faster than anyone else because Jones was the most suitable person to do so. Arriving in front of Jones' room, the commotion caught his attention.

"What's the matter, Mr. Jones?" asked George.

Jones, who was still stunned, was silent for a moment. George called Jones again but in a louder voice. "Mr. Jones, can you hear me?"

With a voice that trembled with nervousness, Jones replied, "Ah, yes. Mr. George, it's just a small problem that can be solved internally."

On the other hand, George closed the door and approached them. "What's such a small matter to cause such a commotion?"

Jones looked down, not confident. George is not an arrogant person, so something like this could anger him, and Jones didn't want that to happen. However, given the reputation of Mike's family, Jones regained his confidence.

"Mr. Jones...." George said.

Nervously, Jones said, his voice trembling slightly. His eyes didn't dare to look at George either. "Really, it's not a big deal."

Calmly, George said. "Tell me the truth, or I'll find out the truth myself."

His charismatic demeanor made his words seem hypnotizing.

Jones pointed at Lucas and said, "This student made a scene during lunchtime. As per procedure, I brought him to this place."

It was like Mike was putting kindling into a raging fire. She chimed in. "That's right, Mr. George. I witnessed it myself. He made a very disturbing noise."

"A ruckus? What commotion?" Lucas tried to defend himself.

Mike looked sarcastically at Lucas. "You know, you're making the campus very chaotic."

Mike pointed at Lucas while glaring at George. "He even dared to attempt a beating."

George knew Mike's background. Besides being a businessman, they were also one of the main investors of this university. He had to consider his comfort and satisfaction.

He gave Jones a sharp look. "Mr. Jones, you let something like this happen?"

Jones shook his head, worried by George's anger. "I will not allow it. I am also working on his dismissal from the college."

George nodded. This kind of thing should not be tolerated in this institution. "Get it done quickly. I don't want this place to become a mess."

Jones nodded. Agreed. "Mr. George, don't worry. Once we cancel his scholarship, we can solve it easily."

"Scholarship?" George frowned, feeling astonished. In this place, not many people get scholarships.

Jones was silent, realizing his mistake. But in the end, he nodded and explained the situation a little. "He received a full scholarship from the government. I don't know what he did to get this scholarship."

George's curiosity was peaked. Full scholarships were usually only awarded to outstanding students with exceptional potential. Their university is known to have strict admission standards.

"Mr. Jones, you should know that receiving a full scholarship shows that the student has great potential. I hope you solve this problem properly."

Jones was silent for a moment, pondering George's warning. He realized that this was a serious matter and should be handled with care.

"I understand, Mr. George. I will conduct further investigations and ensure this matter is resolved accordingly."

"Mr. Chancellor, let me express my opinion." Lucas, who had been silent, now spoke.

George nodded. It's not right if he only hears opinions from Jones and Mike. "Of course, you have the right to speak."

Lucas nodded, calm and confident. "I am one of the students who received a full scholarship from the government. In the letter I received from the education department and this University, I am exempt from all fees."

George nodded, knowing about this provision. Besides being able to attend school for free, they could also get job recommendations after graduation.

"Today, I did cause a bit of inconvenience, but there is nothing in the letter that says this scholarship can be canceled."

George nodded again. There were only a few reasons for canceling the scholarship, such as being involved in a serious crime.

"Mr. Jones called me and asked for $20,000." Lucas continues. "Strangely enough, when I wanted to pay it, he refused."

"There's no such rule in this place," George says. He was furious at what Jones had done. As a chancellor, this was outrageous.

Lucas remained calm and continued. "Besides, if I want to continue my scholarship, they ask me to kowtow to Mike. What kind of rule is this?"

The nervous Jones immediately shouted, trying to interrupt Lucas. "Lying! He's lying! I never said that!"

Lucas averted his eyes, glaring at Jones sharply. "You never said that, or was it me who didn't hear it?"

"Enough! I'm still here, and you're fighting like children," George said, intrigued by Lucas. The young man was straightforward and remained calm even when dealing with him. In addition, Mike and Jones also indirectly continued to intimidate him. "I want to see your ID."

Lucas nodded. "Of course, sir."

He took out his student ID and gave it to George.

When George checked Lucas's name and ID number, he was surprised. The young man before him was the person the Carter family was referring to. However, he also discovered another fact about this young man.

Without hesitation, George immediately greeted Lucas, and his demeanor turned very friendly. "Are you Lucas, the student who made an important breakthrough last year for our university?"

He didn't want to mention the Carter family before Mike and Jones, so he brought up Lucas's other great achievement.

Lucas smiled, "it's nothing, Mr. George. By the way, do I have to kowtow to Mike to continue my scholarship?"

George shook his head. He was feeling very enthusiastic. Beyond his identity as someone the Carter family protected, he admired this young man in front of him. "You are a valuable asset that we should support. There is no charge whatsoever. Make the most of these facilities and keep discovering new things."
