Nicki lay in her sterile hospital room, the harsh fluorescent lights casting a cold, unforgiving glow on her pale face. The heart monitor beeped rhythmically, its sound a stark contrast to the chaos brewing within her. Bitterness coursed through her veins, and her heart ached with resentment.
