Chapter 8

Ray pointed at him, ordering the guards. “Arrest him!”

Sean just stood there in bemusement, wondering who they were trying to order. “What are you waiting for?”

The guards had their orders and much to Ray's surprise instead of hauling Sean away, they matched towards Ray and Amelia.

“Sir, Ma'am. You need to come with me.” The guard in front took the lead, his hand resting on his baton.

Ray looked around in bewilderment, moving back a bit. “This is some sick joke, right?”

The guard's face remained blank but he flexed his hands, the threat clear. “Sir, unfortunately you're trespassing and you need to leave or you will be taken out.”

Amelia gasped, placing a hand on her chest as she hid behind her brother. “You can't mean that! Are you threatening us?”

“I wouldn't want to be crude but this house belongs to Mr Sean, and it's obvious that he doesn't want you here.”

“I don't bloody care what that church rat says!” Ray blows hot. “This is ours!”

Sir, I'm trying to be respectful and not apply force but if you don't leave…”

And so what huh?” Ray fists were ready. “What are you going to do?”

The guy didn't bat an eye at Ray's theatrics, lowering his voice to a menacing growl but Sean managed to catch wind of it. “I'll break both your legs, and make sure you're feeding through a straw for the next couple of weeks.”

A squeak came from Amelia and Sean could see her tugging on Ray's shirt.

“Ray come on, let's go!” She hissed.

Unfortunately, Ray was more stubborn than he looked. “I’m not afraid of you.” He went toe to toe with the guards. “I've got friends in high places…friends that you don't want to toy with, say the security head in this community.” Ray flashed a cocky smile. “We're quite chummy buddies too, so if I were you, I'd think twice about flagging your gums.”

Amelia seemed to have lost her fear, cheered on by her brother's fearlessness. “He's right! We do know people!”

The head guard let out a humorless laugh. “It's quite a pity to be as small-minded as you guys are. You know a couple of people, so what?” Sean caught the guard tightening his hand around the baton. “You might know the security head but I know the Chief of cops in this city. I'm guessing the your ‘security head' has got no ranking where the Chief does huh?”

It's a rare sight where Sean sees either Amelia or Ray speechless but the guard just rendered them unable to talk back.

Amelia and Ray exchanged glances, probably thinking of what to say next in defense.

“How is that true? Anyone can make up knowing anybody, doesn't make it the truth!” Ray spoke up.

The guard must have anticipated their reaction because he immediately whipped out his phone, flashing the screen in their faces for a second before he started to dial. “He sent us to protect Mr Sean, so if you think I'm lying, you can wait behind…”

The guard had changed the phone to speaker mode,so everyone could tell that it was ringing, any moment from now the Chief could pick.

Sean was t sure I'd the guard was bluffing or being real but apparently Ray didn't want to find out and be thrown into jail.

He cracked in the fifth ring, rivulets of sweat beading down his forehead. “Okay, stop! Stop, we'll leave!”

As soon as the guard got what he wanted, he ended the call. “I'm waiting.”

“Come on sis, let's go.” Ray took a hold of Amelia's hand. She hid behind her brother, her head bent in embarrassment.

When they got to where he was standing, Ray took the lead. “You might have won this round, but you'll pay for what you did today!”

“Don't think you got away either, because we'll be back…and if you think we'll take it easy on you,” she chipped in, ended her statement with a mocking laugh.

“Same goes for you too.” Sean fired back at them. “It's horrible when bad things happen to you right?” He laughed in their faces, intoxicated on their unhappiness. “I've had enough with taking in the things you do to me. The next time you come here, I'll hit you with a lawsuit so hard that you'll continue paying for years to come.”

Amelia pushed Ray away, coming to the forefront for the first time since he stepped out of his car. There was anger in her eyes. “You can't hit us with a lawsuit for doing nothing!”

“I'd like to think that's the contrary.” He retorted, slipping his hands into his pants pocket. For a moment, he allowed his eyes to study her face. To think that this was the person he wanted to spend the rest of his life with…now, he couldn't even look at her for too long without getting upset. “You see, I have physical evidence that you guys robbed me blind, misleading me into misappropriation of funds.”

It's a good thing he took that law course early last year.

Amelia's mouth opened and closed twice, flapping like a fish. Ray, the meathead didn't understand what we were talking about so he whispered- loudly- into her ear. “What's he talking about?”

She oushed him away, focusing on more important things.

Namely, him.

“But yo-you can't d-do th-that!” She stuttered out.

“But I can.” He negated. “You all used up by wealth and some of the properties I had due to emotional blackmail. It's quite simple really, if you bring up the topic of compensation again…here's what I'll do.” He took in a deep breath. “I'll hire the best lawyers in town, hit you with a lawsuit then sip beer and watch you guys rot behind bars on the charges of fraud and defamation of character. It's your choice, basically.”

It was a wonderful feeling seeing your enemies scatter, running away in fear after an encounter, that will send asense of accomplishment flooding through your body.
