Chapter 004

But then, as she recalled the respectful glances the manager directed at them, understanding dawned on her.

Of course—it had to be because of Andrew.

He was a Morris, from one of the most prominent families in the capital. Andrew's family name alone must have been enough to completely change their treatment here.

Realizing this, Cassie’s eyes sparkled with admiration. Her confusion melted into a profound pride.

She looked at Andrew, her lips curling into a smile. “Andrew, I’m so proud of you! It’s all because of you! Only the Morris family can have such an influence!”

Andrew gave a smug smile, shrugging as though it was nothing.

“Well, being a Morris has its perks,” he replied with a wink. “Enjoy, this is only the beginning. This is nothing compared to all you stand to gain with our marriage and merger”

Andrew boasted with a puffed-out chest, causing Harold and Cassie to exchange a glance and beamed widely at themselves.

The same thought was running through both their minds: it had been a good decision to get rid of the obstacle that was Richard.

Their connection with Andrew was going to afford them the life of prestige and luxury that they had always craved.

Just as they settled in, the door to their suite flung open, and Bernard Cooper, the Deputy mayor, walked in.

“Mayor Delaney, care to explain why Richard Day, your mayor by proxy is seated in jail right now?’

Harold and Cassandra were taken aback to see him. How had the news managed to travel so fast?

Standing with precision, Cassandra slowly walked up to Bernard, keeping her gaze on him. She sipped her wine, the glass still on her lips, she replied,

“Well if you care so much to know, Richard isn't what he pretends to be. He's a cheat and a sly being. We found out that he's been embezzling state funds, and so we had him arrested”

Staring at her, Bernard scoffed as his lips curled back in disgust, he looked over at Cassie and Harold and shook his head in disgust and pity.

The Richard he knew and had worked with was far from the person Cassandra had just described. Richard was one of a kind—a rare, principled man.

He had never sought riches or recognition. In fact, he’d barely taken a salary, choosing instead to donate most of his income to orphanages, schools, and foundations.

And his bravery was legendary; Bernard remembered fighting alongside him when Dalton was on the brink of collapse.

It was Richard’s relentless drive that had brought order and unity back to the city. Richard was an asset that couldn't be thrown away like that!

“Have you thought this through? Do you not know what can happen if Richard is no longer at the helm of things?” Jutting his chin, he questioned further, “And, if he’s supposedly guilty of these crimes—where is the evidence?”

Cassie swallowed, shuddering a little, and. She glanced back at her father, who scraped his chair and walked up to him, standing beside Cassandra.

“I can assure you that we've done our due diligence, and I have all the evidence we need. The proof that we have is enough to put that imposter away for life!”

His words sounded convincing, but not to Bernard, whose eyes darted around the trio, trying hard to mask his disgust.

“ Mr Bernard, I'm certain you must know me and my family.” Andrew stood up and stepped forward, smiling arrogantly at Bernard.

“The Morris family is the number one family of Savon City; our family owns and runs multiple companies and handles our political affairs.” Thrusting his chest, he went on.

"With me as the new mayor, Dalton is in very safe hands; her GDP and economic growth are about to skyrocket. We will have contracts and partnerships coming in from all over, Dalton City is about to become as big as her capital.”

As he spoke, Harold and Cassie nodded enthusiastically, sporting wide smiles on their faces.

On the other hand, Bernard sneered at them, especially at Andrew, and then scoffed, “You do not know what you've gotten to and what you're about to cause for Dalton City. Because of your selfish gains, you're about to bring our city and its people into ruins. You've lit a fire and it's about to consume us!”

Bernard threw one last look at them and stormed out of the room, making sure to bang the door.

At his departure, Cassandra fumed and stomped her foot,

“Who the hell does Bernard think he is?!"

Hissing loudly, she turned to her father,

“We have to find a way to get him to our side, or get rid of him! We can't have anyone ruining our plans"

Gazing at Andrew, Harold smiled and tapped him on his shoulders, grinning widely he informed Cassie,

"He'll be running to us soon; by the time we join forces with Andrew and his family, we won't need to lure him. Andrew's works will speak for themselves and Bernard would have no other choice but to see our vision”

Harold spoke, his eyes gleaming as he added,

“After all, we know the magic he worked in Savon City.”

Andrew, picking up on Cassandra’s expectant gaze, gave her a confident smile.

Striding up to her, he wrapped her in a reassuring embrace.

“There’s nothing for you to worry about, darling,” he said with a smug grin. “Savon is thriving today because of my leadership. Every bit of growth in the past few years has my mark on it. I’ve got this.”

But despite his words, a faint pang of frustration simmered within him.

Andrew knew well that his family never truly viewed him as capable and never trusted him with full authority.

In reality, he’d been kept on the sidelines in Savon City, with limited influence and minimal trust from his family.

Yet he planned to use this very venture to force their acknowledgment.

Taking control of Dalton City’s political stage would be his chance to prove them wrong and secure his standing.

With that thought, he gave Cassandra’s back a gentle rub. “Now, let’s relax and enjoy this meal.”

Cassandra instantly beamed, bobbing her head in agreement as she sat and signaled to the waiter,

“Hey you, get me the best and most expensive wine in your collection this minute!”
