The waiter nodded and hurried to go do her bidding. In no time, their whole table was filled with exotic and expensive dishes, as Cassandra had made sure to order the most expensive dishes on the menu,
Ordering dishes like the Kobe beef, Matsutake Mushrooms, Caviar-topped lobsters, Almas Caviar, escargot as well as truffles. Each meal cost well over five million and Cassandra didn't hesitate in ordering them.
Their food was arrayed in a buffet manner, and the trio enjoyed their dish to their satisfaction,
The food they had ordered was much more than they could handle; after all, this was a rare opportunity, and they weren’t going to waste it.
As they finished the meal and prepared themselves to leave, the door to their room opened and a gentleman wearing an expensive suit entered, smiling widely,
“Ms Cassandra, Mayor, it's a pleasure and an honour to have you here. Hope the meal was to your satisfaction?”
The man was no other than Nicholas Hunt, the owner of the prestigious Golden Leaf Restaurant.
Cassandra's chin was held high as she squared her shoulders and gazed at him.
She had never thought Nicholas Hunt would come to meet them, and she felt giddy with all the attention that he was paying to them.
With a recent turn of events, she viewed herself as being in the same class as him and so she gazed directly at him, flung her wavy hair, and waved her fingers before she responded haughtily,
“It didn't quite meet my expectations, I wouldn't want to call it sub-par, but I believe you guys can do better, and trust me, I'll be back to reevaluate your meals and service”
Nicholas’ eyebrows scrunched but he smiled at her and nodded happily,
“We sure would love to host you some other time and give you the best treatment. Would be looking forward to hosting you and Mayor Day,”
At the mention of Richard's name, Cassandra's eyes darkened and she clenched her fist, but Nicholas didn't take note as he went on,
“Please do pass my message to him, we would love to host you both in the near future. Please send my warmest regards"
Jutting her chin forward with a sneer on her face, Cassie glanced over at Nicholas and nearly snapped,
"Richard Day is currently being detained for his crimes of bribery, corruption, and abuse of power”
She huffed, cocking her head to the side.
As Nicholas processed the words, he gaped at her with bulging eyes, he was frozen at his spot, speechless as he gaped at her,
Trying to string words together, his eyebrows creased as his eyes darted amongst the three of them before resting on Cassandra once more,
“H-how? H-how’s that possible?"
Cassandra shrugged casually, examining her painted fingernails,
"Turns out he isn't a saint, but a corrupt fool”
Nicholas shook his head in disbelief and replied outrightly, his tone affirmative,
“That's not possible! Mayor Richard Day isn't corrupt! I can swear on my life and that of my daughter's!”
Cassandra sneered at him, crossing her arms she cocked her head,
“Well, that's the truth. He's nothing but a corrupt person who has been deceiving us all”
Nicholas smirked, and shook his head,
“That man you speak of in such a manner isn't capable of bribery or corruption, and I say that categorically"
Cassandra curled her lips, as she jutted her chin, gazing at him
"How are you so sure?!"
“Because Mayor Day saved the life of my daughter, and yet didn't collect a dime from me!"
He spoke up categorically, as he glared at them.
Nicholas's young daughter had fallen gravely ill weeks ago, with mysterious swelling and inability to retain food or fluids.
Despite his wealth and efforts, no hospital could help. When renowned Dr. Eric Carr failed to diagnose her condition and abandoned the case, Nicholas turned to Richard after a chance meeting.
Richard used herbal remedies, and within days, the girl was fully healed.
In gratitude, Nicholas offered Richard 90% of his company's shares, but Richard declined.
However, Cassie sneered at him, hissing loudly.
"Well, the person you defend so well is nothing but corrupt, a corrupt pest with no restrictions, and his arrest is a warning to all! Nobody is above the law, it's fair justice!”
Having said her piece, Cassandra began walking towards the exit, Harold and Andrew tagging behind still glaring at her.
All of a sudden, the exit was guarded by Nicholas' bodyguards who stared at them like they were bugs they could crush soon,
Startled Cassie glared at them before she swiftly turned back to glare at Nicholas,
“What's the meaning of this?!"
Nicholas gave her a cold look, sneering at her, he straightened himself and smirked,
"Since you put Mayor Richard into jail. The meal is no longer free for you. It's only fair that you pay for the service rendered and the food you ate!”
Cassandra's and Harold's eyes immediately bulged as Cassie was taken aback, her mouth hanging open,“W-what the hell are you saying?" Cassie glanced at the table they had vacated and her heart began beating rapidly within her, internally cursing at Richard and the restaurant’s owner. These dishes could cost more than one million dollars. It was completely beyond her budget.Harold stepped forward, his gaze intent on the owner, he could tell that the man wasn't going to budge.“We'll pay the bill” He said with arrogance like it’s nothing to him, shoving his hands into his pocket and glancing at Andrew. His words caught Cassandra's attention and she snapped her head to gape at him, in response Harold nodded subtly before he continued,"After all, it’s just a small sum to my soon-to-be son-in-law. You clearly do not know who's standing before you and one day you'll bite your tongue!”While he spoke, Cassie subtly cast a glance at Andrew and smiled to herself, she cat walked towards him wi
One of them swallowed hard, shook his head to dispel his fears, straightening himself, he bent his head and sneered at the shop owner,“Hah! Jokes on you, he cannot appear from thin air to rescue you! So you're at our mercy”He kicked harshly at the man who cowered over, clutching at his stomach. Laughing arrogantly, another soldier crunched his boot on the poor man's heel and said loudly,“Seeing as you've dared to threaten us, I can think of several ways to silence you” he lowered himself and whispered loudly as he winked and continued,"Silence you forever, and then no one, not even the Mayor, would ever find out what happened to you. Silence you, alongside your fellow merchants!" The sickening soldier boasted, hitting his chest with his gun as his eyes shone at the thought. On the other hand, the merchants and the others who had heard the threats were filled with fear, some of them had peed on themselves, some shivering to their bones as they heard him. Sensing and smelling thei
The residents exchanged nervous glances, the weight of the evening sinking in. After a brief pause, the head of the group spoke again, his voice respectful but filled with quiet concern."Mayor, I know I’m not in a position to ask for favors, but seeing as night has fallen and the journey ahead is long, we humbly request that you stay with us for the night and continue your journey tomorrow."A chorus of agreement followed, with the other residents nodding eagerly. They looked at Richard with hopeful eyes, silently pleading for him to accept their hospitality."Yes, please stay the night.""We would be honored to host you, Mayor."They urged as Vivienne stood by watching silently with a smile that reached her eyes, but then she felt a slight pang in her heart, her eyebrows drawing together at the thought of the city not being protected by Richard any longer. She wondered how Dalton City could miss out on such a rare and influential gem.By mere commands from him, the feared soldiers o
Vivienne’s brows furrowed at his request, but she said nothing, only nodding in acknowledgment. As they journeyed down,Vivienne was dazed, staring speechless to see both sides of the streets lined with the residents of Vancovira waving flags and singing Richard's praises; some even had tears in their eyes as they bid them farewell. The procession continued with people still lining the streets until they got to the helipad that was to return them to the City; as they exited the vehicle, they could still hear the praises of the people trailing behind them while the ten disciples bowed in reverence to Richard.Vivienne looked dazedly around, her heart churning within as she followed Richard into the helicopter that was to return him to prison. Back in Dalton City, Cassandra and Harold were back in their home, wine glasses in hands as they toasted and celebrated Richard's downfall as well as the new horizon of Andrew taking over the mayoral position,“Cheers to a new dispensation, one w
As they rushed to follow her orders, Vivienne made calls to ensure the room was well-ventilated, painted, and cleaned. Occasionally, she glanced at Richard, who had his head held back while he meditated to himself. He was unfazed by the activities going on around him while he waited patiently to be led to whatever cell was made available to him. After it was all prepared, Vivienne gingerly escorted Richard to the cell, making sure to inform him as they went about her thoughts,“Mayor Richard, I know this place isn't befitting for someone of your status, and I have tried to make it as habitable as possible. I hope that this place gives you the comfort and peace that you seek, you're a guest and not a prisoner, hence why I have set it to a standard of comfort to help ease your stay here”Richard nodded, saying nothing as they went to the room, and as they walked the inmates who saw and recognized Richard were startled, as they watched with widened eyes,“Are my eyes possibly deceiving
Oblivious to the planning against his life, Richard had awoken the next morning ready to enjoy his current peace and quiet, but that plan was far-fetched as some policemen had come on Vivienne's orders to escort him to a luxurious restaurant .When they got to their destination where Vivienne was waiting for him with a warm smile, Richard quirked his eyebrows and shook his head subtly.“Mayor Richard, I hope you're doing well this morning and that your living arrangement is to your liking?”In response, Richard shrugged his shoulders, just as one of the men pulled out a seat and he sat,“What's all this? And this fuss?" Richard questioned as he spread his arm to the array of food on the table, Vivienne's cheeks tinged a bit before she sat up to respond,“I just felt it right to treat you to a hearty meal” was her simple response as her gaze remained on Richard, who raised an eyebrow at her,“This is really unnecessary. The hospitality isn't needed" Pausing for a second, he sighed and
“Richard Day! You're under arrest for fraud, bribery, and corruption!” Inspector Finn’s words rang out, and Richard leaned back in his chair, unfazed. Slowly, he turned to face the officer. “Finn,” he drawled, “ To what do I owe this pleasure?”“Uhm… A case has been brought against you, and I’m simply here doing my duty,” Finn replied, a hint of nervousness in his voice.‘Is that so?’ Richard raised an eyebrow, and his gaze flicked briefly to his assistant, Benson, whose hand hovered over his waistband, ready to act. With a subtle shake of his head, Richard signaled him to stand down.Sighing, Richard looked around at the officers before focusing on Finn. “What crime did you say has been levied against me?" he asked, voice calm but edged with steel. Inspector Finn swallowed a little before he replied. “You've been accused of misappropriation of funds, bribery, corruption, and various other crimes" He started with a clearer voice, but his confidence wavered as he continued und
They arrived at the prison, and Inspector Finn led Richard inside, with Richard striding in and his hands cuffed. They were headed to Inspector Finn's office when loud siren noises filled the air, and officers straightened their postures as a fleet of six luxurious cars rode into the police compound. The cars came to a stop, with a well-dressed officer hurrying down to open the back door he had come down from,Inspector Finn watched with mouth agape as a woman with long flowing red hair and voluptuous curves came down, wearing high stiletto heels, the aura around her was that of power and authority. As he watched her approach, he shuffled on his feet and gulped, before he greeted her with all the false enthusiasm he could muster.“C-chief, this is a pleasant surprise. You didn't inform us you were coming in" He greeted, trying to smile despite the turmoils in his stomach, the police Chief raised her brows at him before replying snidely,“I didn't know I was to inform you of my itine
