Cassandra's and Harold's eyes immediately bulged as Cassie was taken aback, her mouth hanging open,
“W-what the hell are you saying?"
Cassie glanced at the table they had vacated and her heart began beating rapidly within her, internally cursing at Richard and the restaurant’s owner.
These dishes could cost more than one million dollars.
It was completely beyond her budget.
Harold stepped forward, his gaze intent on the owner, he could tell that the man wasn't going to budge.
“We'll pay the bill” He said with arrogance like it’s nothing to him, shoving his hands into his pocket and glancing at Andrew.
His words caught Cassandra's attention and she snapped her head to gape at him, in response Harold nodded subtly before he continued,
"After all, it’s just a small sum to my soon-to-be son-in-law. You clearly do not know who's standing before you and one day you'll bite your tongue!”
While he spoke, Cassie subtly cast a glance at Andrew and smiled to herself, she cat walked towards him with a shy smile on her face, trailing her finger on his chest while looking at him with shy eyes,
“Baby…” she drawled, before speaking louder,
"Paying for our meal shouldn't be a problem, you have to show these fools that you are a Morris for a reason and that a little over one million isn't anything for you"
Andrew masked his face, putting a strained smile on while gazing at her. Though his face was smiling, he was gritting and grinding his teeth, his jaws a little clenched,
While smiling at Cassandra, he was cursing at her and her gluttony, she had eaten like a pig that had been starved for weeks, and now she expected him to bail her out. He clenched his fist tightly beside him,
The thought of shelling out that outrageous amount had him fuming; he was already living way above his needs by trying to impress Cassandra and her father,
Though his family was a prominent one, he wasn't exactly rich as he was living off a monthly allowance from them, and the funds weren't even enough, so he had to cut down on his expenses.
Smirking to himself he concluded that he was one way or another going to get his money back, that and all the money and investment he intended to milk off Dalton City and from Cassandra as well.
With that conclusion, he raised his head to glower at Nicholas and then smiled back at Cassandra, caressing her cheek as he spoke,
“Anything for you my love. After all, what's mine is yours"
Gloating, Cassandra pecked his lips and then turned to gloat at Nicholas, a smirk on her lips.
As Cassandra was celebrating her victory against Richard, Vivienne escorted Richard to Vancouver.
As soon as they arrived, Richard noticed something unusual.
Three heavy-duty vehicles were parked nearby, and several stalls had been hastily closed, with merchants peeking out cautiously.
His eyes squinted as they darted around.
Something was off, and Richard’s instincts told him that this had to be tied to Prisms.
He exchanged a quick glance with Vivienne, who seemed to share the same uneasy feeling.
Without hesitation, Richard motioned for them to move toward one of the remaining open stalls, its activity far less subdued than the others. As they neared, the tension in the air was palpable.
He could some men who were currently at one of the residents stall, as Richard calmly observed the scene, he could see beyond their guise and dressing, these men weren't locals of Vancovira,
They were about twelve in number, and though they were dressed as locals, he could tell they weren't. Richard knew they were spies, but listened on to get where they had come from. The men stood at a stall, looting and laughing as they took goods from the terrified merchants.
The stall owner, a short man, stood defiantly, shaking but still trying to block their path.
"Y- you come here to steal from us, harass us, and think we won't fight back? Even having the disgusting effontery to dress as one of us?! " the man thundered slightly, His voice was shaky, but he refused to be a coward. He cocked his head slightly and glared at the men,
“What do you think Mayor Richard Day would do to you if he ever found out that you have dared cross the border and have tried to steal from us as well as bully us? He would have all of your heads on a platter that's what!”
The shop owner declared boldly as he scowled at the spies who had come to infiltrate and get information. On hearing the name Richard, they exchanged fearful glances, a flicker of dread passing through their eyes.
One of them swallowed hard, shook his head to dispel his fears, straightening himself, he bent his head and sneered at the shop owner,“Hah! Jokes on you, he cannot appear from thin air to rescue you! So you're at our mercy”He kicked harshly at the man who cowered over, clutching at his stomach. Laughing arrogantly, another soldier crunched his boot on the poor man's heel and said loudly,“Seeing as you've dared to threaten us, I can think of several ways to silence you” he lowered himself and whispered loudly as he winked and continued,"Silence you forever, and then no one, not even the Mayor, would ever find out what happened to you. Silence you, alongside your fellow merchants!" The sickening soldier boasted, hitting his chest with his gun as his eyes shone at the thought. On the other hand, the merchants and the others who had heard the threats were filled with fear, some of them had peed on themselves, some shivering to their bones as they heard him. Sensing and smelling thei
The residents exchanged nervous glances, the weight of the evening sinking in. After a brief pause, the head of the group spoke again, his voice respectful but filled with quiet concern."Mayor, I know I’m not in a position to ask for favors, but seeing as night has fallen and the journey ahead is long, we humbly request that you stay with us for the night and continue your journey tomorrow."A chorus of agreement followed, with the other residents nodding eagerly. They looked at Richard with hopeful eyes, silently pleading for him to accept their hospitality."Yes, please stay the night.""We would be honored to host you, Mayor."They urged as Vivienne stood by watching silently with a smile that reached her eyes, but then she felt a slight pang in her heart, her eyebrows drawing together at the thought of the city not being protected by Richard any longer. She wondered how Dalton City could miss out on such a rare and influential gem.By mere commands from him, the feared soldiers o
Vivienne’s brows furrowed at his request, but she said nothing, only nodding in acknowledgment. As they journeyed down,Vivienne was dazed, staring speechless to see both sides of the streets lined with the residents of Vancovira waving flags and singing Richard's praises; some even had tears in their eyes as they bid them farewell. The procession continued with people still lining the streets until they got to the helipad that was to return them to the City; as they exited the vehicle, they could still hear the praises of the people trailing behind them while the ten disciples bowed in reverence to Richard.Vivienne looked dazedly around, her heart churning within as she followed Richard into the helicopter that was to return him to prison. Back in Dalton City, Cassandra and Harold were back in their home, wine glasses in hands as they toasted and celebrated Richard's downfall as well as the new horizon of Andrew taking over the mayoral position,“Cheers to a new dispensation, one w
As they rushed to follow her orders, Vivienne made calls to ensure the room was well-ventilated, painted, and cleaned. Occasionally, she glanced at Richard, who had his head held back while he meditated to himself. He was unfazed by the activities going on around him while he waited patiently to be led to whatever cell was made available to him. After it was all prepared, Vivienne gingerly escorted Richard to the cell, making sure to inform him as they went about her thoughts,“Mayor Richard, I know this place isn't befitting for someone of your status, and I have tried to make it as habitable as possible. I hope that this place gives you the comfort and peace that you seek, you're a guest and not a prisoner, hence why I have set it to a standard of comfort to help ease your stay here”Richard nodded, saying nothing as they went to the room, and as they walked the inmates who saw and recognized Richard were startled, as they watched with widened eyes,“Are my eyes possibly deceiving
Oblivious to the planning against his life, Richard had awoken the next morning ready to enjoy his current peace and quiet, but that plan was far-fetched as some policemen had come on Vivienne's orders to escort him to a luxurious restaurant .When they got to their destination where Vivienne was waiting for him with a warm smile, Richard quirked his eyebrows and shook his head subtly.“Mayor Richard, I hope you're doing well this morning and that your living arrangement is to your liking?”In response, Richard shrugged his shoulders, just as one of the men pulled out a seat and he sat,“What's all this? And this fuss?" Richard questioned as he spread his arm to the array of food on the table, Vivienne's cheeks tinged a bit before she sat up to respond,“I just felt it right to treat you to a hearty meal” was her simple response as her gaze remained on Richard, who raised an eyebrow at her,“This is really unnecessary. The hospitality isn't needed" Pausing for a second, he sighed and
“Richard Day! You're under arrest for fraud, bribery, and corruption!” Inspector Finn’s words rang out, and Richard leaned back in his chair, unfazed. Slowly, he turned to face the officer. “Finn,” he drawled, “ To what do I owe this pleasure?”“Uhm… A case has been brought against you, and I’m simply here doing my duty,” Finn replied, a hint of nervousness in his voice.‘Is that so?’ Richard raised an eyebrow, and his gaze flicked briefly to his assistant, Benson, whose hand hovered over his waistband, ready to act. With a subtle shake of his head, Richard signaled him to stand down.Sighing, Richard looked around at the officers before focusing on Finn. “What crime did you say has been levied against me?" he asked, voice calm but edged with steel. Inspector Finn swallowed a little before he replied. “You've been accused of misappropriation of funds, bribery, corruption, and various other crimes" He started with a clearer voice, but his confidence wavered as he continued und
They arrived at the prison, and Inspector Finn led Richard inside, with Richard striding in and his hands cuffed. They were headed to Inspector Finn's office when loud siren noises filled the air, and officers straightened their postures as a fleet of six luxurious cars rode into the police compound. The cars came to a stop, with a well-dressed officer hurrying down to open the back door he had come down from,Inspector Finn watched with mouth agape as a woman with long flowing red hair and voluptuous curves came down, wearing high stiletto heels, the aura around her was that of power and authority. As he watched her approach, he shuffled on his feet and gulped, before he greeted her with all the false enthusiasm he could muster.“C-chief, this is a pleasant surprise. You didn't inform us you were coming in" He greeted, trying to smile despite the turmoils in his stomach, the police Chief raised her brows at him before replying snidely,“I didn't know I was to inform you of my itine
Finn shook his head vigorously, closing his eyes tight as he did, mumbling under his breath,“I-I w-was only following orders of the mayor. " Vivienne straightened herself, “You also follow my order! You don't go behind me and execute orders without my permission!”Richard remained impassive, looking at Finn kneeling in front of him. He understood what was going on, it was obvious Finn was just a mere messenger whose hands were tied. “It’s all right, Vivienne. I’ll be fine.” He turned to Vivienne and said calmly.Vivienne swallowed hard, scratching at her temple as she watched Richard. It was as clear as day that the mayor and his daughter were nothing but ambitious but stupid people who didn't mind bringing people down to get to their aim.On the surface, the city of Dalton appeared peaceful and prosperous, but beneath this facade were various dangerous factions engaged in a power struggle. Only Richard’s presence kept these forces from making bold moves against the city. Shou
