Chapter 010

As they rushed to follow her orders, Vivienne made calls to ensure the room was well-ventilated, painted, and cleaned.

Occasionally, she glanced at Richard, who had his head held back while he meditated to himself.

He was unfazed by the activities going on around him while he waited patiently to be led to whatever cell was made available to him.

After it was all prepared, Vivienne gingerly escorted Richard to the cell, making sure to inform him as they went about her thoughts,

“Mayor Richard, I know this place isn't befitting for someone of your status, and I have tried to make it as habitable as possible. I hope that this place gives you the comfort and peace that you seek, you're a guest and not a prisoner, hence why I have set it to a standard of comfort to help ease your stay here”

Richard nodded, saying nothing as they went to the room, and as they walked the inmates who saw and recognized Richard were startled, as they watched with widened eyes,

“Are my eyes possibly deceiving me?"

“What is the honorable mayor doing in a place like this?"

“There must surely be a mistake"

They each echoed their thoughts, but no one replied to them.

Unfazed by their inquisitive eyes, Richard passed by them and headed to the cell that had been prepared for him, instantly dismissing Vivienne who nodded in respect and headed back to her office, her feet trudging heavily as she walked away.

Bothered by the unfair situation regarding Richard’s case, Vivienne decided to go visit the deputy mayor, she was determined to resolve the issue,

Arriving at his office, she immediately addressed the matter before them,

“Deputy Mayor, how's the investigation going Sir?" She questioned him politely, her hand rubbing at her temple as she stared intently at him.

Bernard Cooper sat up in his seat, and expelled a deep breath, placing his hands on the table, he replied,

“I'm afraid that Harold and Cassandra have made plans to reinstate Andrew Morris as the new mayor. He's to take over from Richard”

Vivienne's demeanor grew cold, her entire face and eyes reddening as she leaned forward and questioned Bernard,

“Andrew Morris from Savon City? The top family of Savon?"

Bernard gave a wry smile, nodding slightly. At his confirmation, Vivienne's fist clenched, and she gritted her teeth, anger flaring deep within her.

She couldn't understand the injustice that was going on, although Andrew and his family name were influential, their influence held no flame where Richard was,

Andrew couldn't hold a candle to Richard; he was no match for Richard in handling the economy or handling the people of Dalton.

Back at Vancovira, her eyes had been opened to see the warm welcome and respect they all had for Richard, seeing firsthand how the soldiers had rattled and quavered before him, obeying his commands with no hesitation, she knew that Richard was nearly indispensable, himself and what he had done for their city was irreplaceable.

Settling back onto her seat, she faced Bernard with gloomy eyes as she muttered,

“Mayor Richard's influence covers farther than Dalton and Vancouver; this is a man that's greatly feared by highly influential people. I fear they would be another war or something much worse from our enemies if they come to find out what's happening in Dalton”

Her heart broke within her, while Bernard with a forlorn look shrugged,

"For now, there's nothing that can be done. We only wait as watch the Delaneys unfold their next plan”

In his words, Vivienne left his office with a heavy leg and head, heavier than when she had arrived, in the face of adversity, she and her men weren't as strong as Mayor Richard.

While Vivienne and Bernard had been in their meeting, Harold, Andrew, and Cassandra were having theirs as well, planning to finally nail Richard's coffin,

It was proving a little difficult, but they were determined to see it through, running her hand through her hair, Cassie let out a deep breath and exclaimed,

“This is harder than I thought! The goody two shoes has done a lot of good for the City and has quite accomplished a lot; how then do we bring him down and make him seem like the devil that we are portraying him to be?!”

She huffed as she slammed her hand onto the desk, her jaw clenched tightly as she continued,

“The event at the restaurant is an example! The stupid owner wouldn't believe how corrupt he was no matter how much we tried convincing him!"

Her eyes darting between her father and her new fiancee, she let out a deep breath as she spoke,

“We need something tangible so that the people will accept Andrew, even if we have to create one!”

She snarled with fuming eyes, Harold smirked and casually responded,

"There wouldn't be any need for forging. Richard Day isn't as innocent as he's portrayed himself to be”

Arms crossed for his chest, Harold announced with a snigger, causing Cassandra's eyes to widen as she leaned forward, her eyes gazing at her father intently, as she waited for him to continue.

With a puffed-up chest, Harold nodded at his daughter and smiled, before he leaned forward and spoke slowly,

“I have the evidence to prove that Richard has been cheating on you, not just with one woman, but several" he paused and smiled sinisterly once more before he went on,

“Not only that, the bastard has been housing these women in different apartments situated at Creeks Corner!”

Cassandra gaped at her father and then Andrew before her widened eyes rested on Harold's once more,

“How's it possible? What did I miss? How can the poor fool be able to afford properties in our most luxurious area?! And he dared to cheat on me?!"

She snarled, anger rising within her.
