Chapter 31

Richard turned to leave, but Mia stepped in front of him, her expression hard, one hand on her waist and the other pressed firmly against his chest, stopping him in his tracks.

“We’re not going anywhere,” she said, her voice low but firm. “Not until you explain what just happened to me.”

Richard froze, trying to keep his face neutral. “What do you mean? They're all dead,” he replied, feigning innocence as he attempted to brush past her. “We were attacked, I handled it.”

But Mia didn’t budge. “Yeah, they're dead, but how did we go from being attacked to becoming the attacker in the blink of an eye?” Her eyes were sharp, filled with both confusion and suspicion. “One second, a gun was fired, and the next... they were all dead. And I didn’t even see you move.”
