Chapter 32

Before the first group could make a move on Mia, heavy footsteps echoed down the hallway. A second group of men emerged from the shadows, their eyes gleaming with hunger. These newcomers, five in total, were larger, meaner-looking, their clothes stained with blood from their last meal.

“Well, well,” the leader of the second group sneered, his lips curling into a twisted smile. “What do we have here? Haven’t seen meat this pretty in a long time.”

The first group bristled, their hands tightening around their makeshift weapons. The man who had struck Mia with the wood stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. “We got to her first,” he growled, glancing over at Mia’s unconscious body. “You should leave.”

The second group exchanged glances, smirking. “You think you can claim her for yourselves?” the leader asked, his voice mocking. “This is an apocalypse, not a restaurant. It’s survival of the fittest, and we’re the ones who’ll be eating tonight.”
