Lydia raised an eyebrow and let out a short dismissive laugh.
She opened the door wide and stepped aside, “Richard, the Rolls-Royce you rented and the actor you hired are here for you.” Without giving it a second thought, she already assumed that Richard had formulated all of it to pretend he was wealthy in front of them. “Good day sir.” The young man bowed. “Your ride is right outside.” Richard immediately recognized that they were from Janae and got up to leave. “I’ll be on my way now,” he told Sir Wilson and bid him farewell. Lydia kissed her teeth loud enough for him to hear, “You’re so pathetic, for real. At least you should have made your looks align with the wealth you’re trying to fake before anything.” Richard ignored her, walked past her and left. Lady Wilson crossed her arms and laughed. “Did he really think we’d be that gullible? Renting a top luxury car and bringing in actors.” “He thought we’d be dazzled and fall at his feet,” Lydia replied and laughed. Sir Wilson’s face twisted in disapproval as he watched them. “I’m sure Richard wouldn’t do that. He might indeed be different from before, so don't jump to conclusions.” “Richard? Please!” Lady Wilson scoffed while Lydia let out a dramatic sigh. “Aw, looks like someone’s been successfully fooled,” she said, making her and her mother burst into laughter. Meanwhile, back at Janae’s house, Doctor Ben was ready to begin treatment now that all the necessary herbs he needed had been prepared. Watching the doctor finalize his preparations, Janae bit her lower lips nervously. She didn’t really think Dr Ben should proceed because it might put her grandfather into a permanent coma with no chance of waking up. Whereas, Richard on the other hand might actually be able to cure him. “Doctor Ben..” Janae called. “Please can you wait a little longer… I already invited another doctor to help treat grandpa.” Doctor Ben’s expression immediately hardened. “What do you mean, Ms Janae? Are you doubting my exceptional medical abilities now?” He was greatly displeased. “No doc..” Janae tried to reassure that that wasn't the case. But Collin, already worried that Doctor Ben might get even more upset and leave, roared, “That’s enough Janae! We have Doctor Ben here and he’s all we need!” No doctor could match up Ben’s skills in the whole of Kora, so he wondered what Janae’s fuss was about. Ben was popular among the elite and known as ‘Kora’s genius doctor’ “Let’s not waste any more time, doc. You can begin,” he ordered. But Janae stopped him. “Wait. I promise you, this man coming is not just any doctor; Daniel and I met him earlier today while carrying the Master Healer’s exclusive card.” “He even predicted what would happen to grandpa and the timing accurately! I’m not even joking!” she added. “Really?” Collin asked in surprise. He was beginning to give it a thought until Daniel spoke up. “Dad, don’t listen to Janae. The young man is one of Dr Jung’s apprentices and even if his predictions were correct, it was most likely just a lucky guess.” Ben’s eyes lit up instantly, “The young man is one of Dr Jung’s apprentices?” he asked, a wide grin spread across his face. “Yes..” “Will he be coming with Dr Jung?” Ben asked, overjoyed at the prospect of meeting the Master Healer. “No,” Janae answered. “Just the apprentice will be here to..” Doctor Ben’s smile immediately faded upon hearing Janae. He pursed his lips, “Let me be frank with you all..” “The skills and experience needed here are on a completely different level. This isn’t something an ordinary apprentice can step in and handle. That young man can never and would never be of help!” “Anyway, it’s your decision to make,” he flatly added. “If you do not trust me, I will simply take my leave.” “No, no. Doctor you can proceed with the treatment,” Collin quickly said. He couldn’t afford to lose Dr Ben for an unknown apprentice that’d likely fail. Aside from that, it was not easy for the Vesters to have the legendary Dr Ben over to treat Sir Vester. It was only all through the help of Cane’s family. So why risk it? He thought. “Good,” Ben proudly responded before picking the first acupuncture needle to place on Sir Vester. Just as he was prepared to press the needle into place, the door swung open. “Stop!” Richard ordered after seeing what the doctor was about to do. “If you begin that procedure, the poor man would have no chance of waking up.” “You’re not even doing the said procedure the right way, are you trying to kill the old man?” Richard frowned. Dr Ben’s hand froze mid-air, the needle hovering just above Sir Vester’s skin. He turned his head slowly to see who dared to stop him. “And who are you, barging in with your unfathomable ignorance?” he asked, irritation flashing in his eyes. “Do you know who I am??” He was extremely furious. How dare anyone challenge him?? With one glance, he could tell he’d been practicing medicine long before Richard was even born, yet this young man had the effrontery to challenge him. How dare he! Ben turned his blazing gaze to Collin and the latter immediately barked, “Who are you and who let you in here? Get out!” “Dad,” Janae intervened, “He’s the doctor I just spoke about.” “I don’t care! Get him out now!” Richard huffed in displeasure at their doubts and disrespect. “Let me make things clear,” he said. “I am not here to prove a point but to fulfill my master’s promise to treat Sir Vester.” Without further explanation, he remained where he was and took out his silver needles from his kit. Placing them in his left hand, Richard closed his eyes before moving his right hand above the needles to consecrate the energy around them. Suddenly, the needles began to move with a growing force. And by the snap of his right fingers, the needles rose all at once, together and still in the air. Without opening his eyes, he released his hand from its snap-position, making each needle spin gracefully through the air as if being controlled by great energy. In less than a second, each needle uniquely twisted and turned until they landed on Sir Vester’s acupoints with great precision. Everyone collectively gasped, their eyes wide with disbelief. Janae, more than anyone, instinctively reached out to steady herself, as if struggling to comprehend what she had just seen. “How.. how is this possible?” Collin murmured. While others only understood what had happened on a superficial level, Ben knew its true depth. His eyes were almost bulging out of its sockets as he stared at Richard in utter awe. Richard opened his eyes slowly and nodded when he saw the placements of each of the needles. “Remove the needles in 24 hours.. nothing more or less, and he’ll be completely healed,” he instructed. With that, he turned to leave. But Dr Ben ran to his front and stopped him. “Sir,” he bowed. “How… How did you do that? How do you even know the long lost Katharos Needle Technique??” The Katharos needle technique was only practiced centuries ago and rumors say that only two people in the entire nation are capable of performing it today. Ben’s dream had always been to become the third person but he’d never had the opportunity to master it. He immediately fell to his knees, “Master…”Seeing how Dr Ben was in utter awe at what Richard had done, Collin became quite confused. “Dr Ben, why are you staring at his retreating figure like you’ve just seen a ghost?” Collin asked. “What he did was incredible but it’s just acupuncture, isn’t it?”Ben averted his awestruck gaze to Collin and said, shaking his head rapidly, “The Katharos Needle Technique is not just acupuncture.”“I have only seen this technique in a rare medical manual my teacher treasured so much. And even though I studied it for several years, I couldn’t master it!”“Wow!” Collins' eyes widened, realizing that they might have seriously underestimated Richard.“Janae,” he called, “go after the young man now!”A cold sweat formed on Ben’s forehead as he began to regret his earlier disrespect, realizing that he might have offended someone with such great skill. He wiped his brow and quickly followed Janae, hoping to make amends and apologize to Richard as well.As soon as Janae got outside, she saw Richard j
“Since when did determining who stays and leaves this restaurant become your job?” Richard asked her, raising an eyebrow. Lydia angrily pointed her index finger at his face, “This is why I don’t like you; you’re a nobody but still very arrogant,” her brows furrowed in irritation. “You’re shit!”Richard chuckled lightly. “Well, I do not need you to like me, Lydia.”“And just in case you’re worried I might end up marrying you, you have nothing to worry about,” he added. “In fact, I will let your father know that the engagement would be canceled.”Lydia’s brows furrowed deep, pulling together at the center as her eyes narrowed too, “Why are you pretending like you wouldn’t kill to be engaged to a beautiful lady like me??”Her brows furrowed deeper then she let out a bitter laugh. “Oh, I see it now. This whole act of yours– pretending to be uninterested in me… I know it’s just some twisted way to get under my skin, isn’t it?”She leaned forward with an intense gaze, “You think by ignori
“I’m sorry, Ms Delilah,” he said, his heart heavy with regret. “I was unable to get his contact information especially after I had disrespectfully doubted his skills.”Delilah nodded thoughtfully, “It’s fine doc, I understand.” She knew that she’d do the same if she were in Ben’s shoes; it was naturally unbelievable that a young man could surpass the legendary Dr Ben’s expertise. “Thank you doc,” she said. Atleast, she’s now got a chance to cure her grandfather.“I’ll handle it,” she added confidently before hanging up. Without wasting any more time, she decided to meet the remarkable young doctor through the Vester family herself. On the other hand, Richard finished his luxurious, sumptuous meal and proceeded to leave the restaurant. He stepped outside, feeling pleasantly full when his phone buzzed. He quickly answered after seeing it was Sir Wilson. “Hey son! Are you out of town yet?” “No sir..”“Good!” he happily said. “Why don’t you come stay with me for the night?” Richard
After hearing the employee mention the black card, a ripple of murmurs spread across the lobby. Some whispered in awe, while others stared in disbelief, trying to catch a glimpse of the big wig holding the black card!“Oh my God! It’s really the Supreme black card!” Ty Dwayne, one of the city’s elite exclaimed in a low tone. The Supreme black card was an extremely rare symbol with only a few dozen people in the world possessing one. While only five people in Kora had it. It represented the highest of the highest wealth and status, reserved for the ultra rich. The employee straightened up, “P-please, this way, sir,” she said, nervously leading him to the verification area. Richard calmly strode behind her, paying zero attention to the murmurs. The eyes of the customers followed the card as he moved, gazing at it with curiosity and surprise. Lydia, who was conducting her business at a nearby desk couldn’t help but notice the commotion. Her eyes narrowed in curiosity, and then wid
“Oh,” Janae muttered, her brows lifting as she realized that the high figure Dr Ben had mentioned to Richard at her house was actually Delilah. Delilah’s expression became serious. “If you can provide me with information about this Doctor, I would owe your family a favor,” she said. “A favor I promise to honor whenever you might need my help,” she added, leaning forward with a deliberate tone and her steady gaze fixed on Janae’s.Janae’s brows knitted together as she glanced down, biting her lower lips, uncertain but giving the offer a thought. Janae was aware of Delilah’s power and influence, and knew that with her support, her family’s prospects could significantly improve, but she was still hesitant. She remembered that Richard didn’t want to help Dr Ben. And she didn’t want to go against his wishes just for her family’s gain, especially after knowing how great his medical skill was. ‘Offending Dr. Richard isn’t an option,’ she thought. She heaved a sigh but gave it a last th
Richard stood upright and answered the call.Despite what had just happened, none of them had the guts to stand up to Richard or face him head-on. “Hello Ms. Janae.”“Good day Dr Richard. I’ve made a reservation at the Clubhouse Jairo, please meet me there now,” a soft voice came through the other end. “Clubhouse Jairo?” Richard repeated, his tone calm. Hearing Richard mention Clubhouse Jairo, murmurs broke out immediately. “Did he just say Clubhouse Jairo?” Layla whispered, her tone laced with disbelief. Another gasped. “That’s the most exclusive place in the city! You need connections just to get through the doors.”“Chill! Did you guys also hear him say Janae? Like Janae Janae?” Janae was from the city’s wealthiest family and was admired by many so how was Richard speaking to her right now? They wondered. “Alright, I’ll be there,” Richard concluded and hung up, preparing to leave when one of the guys hesitantly stopped him. His voice was trembling out of fear. “Was that Jan
Cane’s brows furrowed when he noticed the strange reactions of the group. “Did the loser also mention Jairo Clubhouse?” he asked.“He did...”Cane’s brows shot up, his eyes widening as a flicker of realization crossed his face before it hardened with his jaw tightening.“Are you serious?” he demanded, his voice laced with irritation. His jaws clenched tighter, anger brewing within him as suspicion crept in– will this loser actually be meeting Janae?“Cane, you don’t have to worry,” Lydia quickly said, shaking her head, “Knowing that bastard’s background, he was definitely lying.”She continued, “Don’t tell me you guys are falling for his tricks just because the information matched. He must have overhead somewhere that Janae would be at Jairo today and intentionally fabricated the story..”“Hmm,” Layla interrupted. “Well, despite knowing that loser for a short period of time, I know he is capable of it.”Cane’s eyes narrowed as their words sank in. He tilted his head slightly, “I gue
Elliot excitedly raced to the grand entrance of the restaurant. Without hesitation, he walked up to an elegantly dressed couple approaching the entrance.“Hello,” he greeted, eagerly holding up the card. “I have a special offer for you…” The man barely glanced at him before saying, “Not interested.” He then pushed him out of his way with a finger as if swatting an annoying fly. But Elliot blocked their path again with a polite smile. “It’s..” he began, only to be cut off by the woman. She sniffed, her eyes scanning him disdainfully. “Who let a filthy beggar like you stay around here? Get out of my sight now you scumbag!” His face fell. “I’m sorry,” he said and left. Elliot saw a group of men chatting close by so he tried again. “Excuse me,” he said confidently. “Please, can I have a moment? I think you’ll be interested in my special offer.”He held the card up to them, but they kept chatting like he was invisible. Elliot, however, moved closer, trying to get their attention.
