Chapter 6

Seeing how Dr Ben was in utter awe at what Richard had done, Collin became quite confused.

“Dr Ben, why are you staring at his retreating figure like you’ve just seen a ghost?” Collin asked. “What he did was incredible but it’s just acupuncture, isn’t it?”

Ben averted his awestruck gaze to Collin and said, shaking his head rapidly, “The Katharos Needle Technique is not just acupuncture.”

“I have only seen this technique in a rare medical manual my teacher treasured so much. And even though I studied it for several years, I couldn’t master it!”

“Wow!” Collins' eyes widened, realizing that they might have seriously underestimated Richard.

“Janae,” he called, “go after the young man now!”

A cold sweat formed on Ben’s forehead as he began to regret his earlier disrespect, realizing that he might have offended someone with such great skill.

He wiped his brow and quickly followed Janae, hoping to make amends and apologize to Richard as well.

As soon as Janae got outside, she saw Richard just some steps away. “Excuse me!” she called out and fastened her pace.

“Yes ma’am.”

“I didn't get to introduce myself, I’m Janae Vester.”

“Richard,” he replied flatly.

“The truth is that I came out here to apologize…” Janae began, her eyes soft and pleading.

“I’m really sorry about how we might have disrespected you as a family. Please if you can find it in your heart to forgive us, I’d really appreciate it...”

Richard waved his hand, cutting her off gently. “There’s no need for all that,” he said, his tone cool. “It’s not a big deal.”

Richard had never really been one to care about how people viewed him.

“But still,” she replied. “Thank you for coming. We’ll forever be indebted to you.”

Richard nodded, “You’re welcome Ms. Janae. I only came because of the exclusive card and now that everything has been taken care of, I should take my leave now.”

With that, he turned to leave.

But Janae quickly stopped him, “Wait. Before you leave…” she said, reaching into her purse. “Please take this.”

In her hand was a gold card.

The gold card represented the Vester family and with it, Richard could receive the highest level of service and respect at any of their family’s businesses.

She thought it was the least she could do for him.

He took the card, thanked her and turned to leave.

He was a bit eager to leave so he could start gathering the herbs to treat Sir Morrigan.

Just then, Dr Ben reached outside and ran towards Richard. “Master…”

“I don’t think you should call me that,” Richard cut him off immediately.

“Sir,” Ben said instead, “I’m really sorry about everything I did to you in there. Please forgive me. I’m extremely sorry, I’m such an old fool…”

“Look sir, it’s alright,” Richard bluntly said.

“Sir, please I’d like to ask for a favor,” Ben continued. “There’s someone’s grandfather who is also a prominent figure that is gravely ill, please can you help treat this patient?”

“No one has been able to treat him but I believe you can,” he quickly added.

Without even giving it a thought, Richard declined.

“No, I’m sorry,” he plainly said.

Richard didn't hesitate to say no because he didn’t quite like Ben, who had dismissed his medical skills earlier based solely on how he looked.

He disliked people who judged others only by their appearance.

“Sir…” Ben tried to persuade Richard but the latter gave no room for it.

“It’s none of my concern, doctor…” Richard calmly said and walked off to the car, “Please send me back,” he told the Janae’s driver and got into the car.

“Sir…” Dr Ben scurried to the car but the car zoomed off.

He let out a deep, frustrated sigh, realizing that he had just lost the opportunity of Richard helping Sir Morrigan all because of his nasty behavior.

“Ms Janae,” he hurried back to her. “Do you have his contact information, please?”

“I’m sorry, doc. If Mr Richard has decided not to help you, I can’t go against his wishes by giving you his contact details.”

“Okay, okay.”

He was disappointed but he also understood that pressuring Richard into treating Sir Morrigan could annoy him further and make things worse.

So he decided to inform Delilah first and then maybe think of other ways to convince Richard later.

“Do you know any restaurants around?” Richard asked the driver as he was beginning to feel a bit hungry.

“Yes sir. There's one just a few blocks away.”

After a few minutes, they arrived at Chilton, one of the Vester family’s five-star restaurants.

“We’re here, sir.”

Coincidentally, Lydia and her friends happened to be arriving at this same restaurant.

And as they approached the entrance, they noticed the latest Rolls-Royce pulling up to the entrance.

“Oh! My! Gosh! Is that…?”

“A Rolls-Royce??”

Lydia’s friends gasped, their eyes widening with excitement.

“It gotta be someone from a prominent family! Could the Wanes be dining here today? They’re one of the only few that can afford that sleek ride,” Layla said.

“I’d say it’s either the Guffers or the Dwaynes,” the other friend said.

As her friends kept yapping about the luxury car, Lydia’s narrowed eyes were fixed on the car. For some reason, it felt a bit familiar to her.

Soon enough, when she saw Richard get out of the car she immediately recognized that it was the same car that had picked him up from her house earlier.

“Guys, I know the man getting out of the car,” she turned to her friends and said.

“ouuu he hot! Minimalist hot type shit!” Layla exclaimed, almost drooling.

Lydia’s face twisted in disgust at her friend’s comment, “Don’t even think about it, he’s the penniless nobody I told y’all about.”

“The one trying to gain favor with your family and dreaming of marrying you?” Layla asked.

“Yes! Plus that car is rented,” Lydia added and hissed. “I can’t believe he’s here at a 5-star restaurant now.”

“Is he planning to steal from the restaurant or what?” Layla asked, making them burst into laughter.

“He don’t even look that good. See his shoes, eww. He looks broke as hell. How did I find him attractive? I must be going blind,” she added.

As they continued to mock Richard and laugh, Lydia walked up to him and blocked his path.

She crossed her arms and eyed him disdainfully, “What are you doing here?!”

Richard’s expression hardened upon seeing her. “What do you want, Lydia?”

“Oh please,” she sneered, her voice thick with mockery. “Don’t you know that you need a membership card and advance reservation to dine here?”

“And?..”

She raised her hand to silence him. “I know you have none of that. You don’t even qualify for either, so leave before you embarrass yourself.”
