Chapter 7

“Since when did determining who stays and leaves this restaurant become your job?” Richard asked her, raising an eyebrow.

Lydia angrily pointed her index finger at his face, “This is why I don’t like you; you’re a nobody but still very arrogant,” her brows furrowed in irritation. “You’re shit!”

Richard chuckled lightly. “Well, I do not need you to like me, Lydia.”

“And just in case you’re worried I might end up marrying you, you have nothing to worry about,” he added. “In fact, I will let your father know that the engagement would be canceled.”

Lydia’s brows furrowed deep, pulling together at the center as her eyes narrowed too, “Why are you pretending like you wouldn’t kill to be engaged to a beautiful lady like me??”

Her brows furrowed deeper then she let out a bitter laugh. “Oh, I see it now. This whole act of yours– pretending to be uninterested in me… I know it’s just some twisted way to get under my skin, isn’t it?”

She leaned forward with an intense gaze, “You think by ignoring me, I’ll start chasing after you? Well, newsflash! I’m not falling for it.”

“And look,” she continued,

“No matter the tricks you tried,” she said, gesturing at the car, “it was all pointless. No expensive rental car or hired actors would cover up the fact that you’re a poor wretched nobody.”

“I…” Richard started, attempting to let her know that she thought wrongly. But she raised her hand to silence him again.

“Please you’re so shameless,” she said and continued insulting him.

At this point, Richard had no more words for her.

He'd rather not waste any more energy on her, so he left and headed straight into the restaurant.

She hissed and went back to her friends who had been watching from a distance.

“I just know he’ll soon be kicked out, let’s wait and see,” Layla said, her tone dripping with disdain.

“Yes. Let’s even wait before entering so we wouldn’t be embarrassed by any association with him when they throw him out,” Lydia replied.

“I can’t wait to see the embarrassed look on his face when it happens.”

As Richard walked into the reception, he approached the receptionist. “Good day.”

“Welcome to Chilton.” she replied with a warm smile, “We operate on a members-only reservation system. May I see your membership card, please?”

“I actually don’t have one, but..” he reached into his pocket and pulled out the gold card Janae gave to him. “…will this suffice?”

She took the card and examined it, “Please hold on sir.” She immediately placed a call to the manager who came hurrying to the reception.

“Good day, Sir,” he bowed to Richard. “Welcome! I am the manager of Chilton. And as our very very esteemed guest, you will be dining at our largest private dining room.”

“Please come with me sir,” he said and led the way.

Since the restaurant was owned by the Vester family, and Richard held the gold card symbolizing their influence, he was about to be treated like royalty.

Meanwhile, after Lydia and her friends had waited for a while, they decided to enter the restaurant.

“I don’t see him,” Layla said, scanning the area.

“He has probably been escorted quietly through a back exit… the restaurant wouldn’t risk tarnishing the hard-earned reputation they’ve built for the sake of a nobody, you know,” Lydia said and they all laughed.

On the other hand, as the manager led Richard to his private room, they noticed everyone standing still and bowing slightly.

When Richard looked, it was Delilah; she had just finished her meal here and was leaving.

As the Crimson Valkyrie, she had a natural commanding presence.

As she passed, she noticed Richard on the side and the first thing she did was laugh.

“What is this riff raff doing here,” she asked, approaching him.

Upon hearing her, everyone began to stare and whisper to one another.

“Oh, my bad. You must be here looking for a job,” she said when she finally got to him. “Even if you manage to secure a job here, you know it would be the best you achieve in your lifetime,” she sneered with a scornful tone.

Richard kept quiet and only listened to her with a blank expression.

She moved closer, trying to appear imposing.

With a confident smirk, she looked at him and said, “You’ll come to see the immense difference between us, sooner or later. Then you’ll realize there’s no point in pursuing someone like me.”

The manager who was quietly watching, considered explaining the situation to her, but intimidated by her imposing aura and identity, he stayed silent.

He should avoid offending her, he thought.

The intense Irritation Richard felt as he listened to Delilah was now evident on his face.

He kissed his teeth and shook his head, mildly annoyed by the arrogance of the women he had encountered today.

Without a word, he turned on his heel and left, while the manager quietly followed, continuing to lead him.

Delilah rolled her eyes and then left the restaurant.

On getting outside, her phone suddenly rang.

It was Dr Ben.

“Ms. Delilah!” he exclaimed, his excitement evident. “I bring good news!”

Delilah listened carefully, anticipating the news and hoping it was about her grandfather.

“I met a remarkably skilled young doctor at the Vester family house today and he might be capable of treating Sir Morrigan!”

“In fact, I’m almost hundred percent sure he’s capable,” he added.

Her eyes widened in surprise, “Really?!”

Her lips stretched into a broad smile and she felt a bit relieved. Still, her curiosity had sparked by the mention of such a talented young doctor.

Fascinated by the idea of someone so accomplished at a young age, she quickly asked, “Dr Ben, could you share his contact details with me right away?”
