During the period Wenton joined the English Champions, the Senior National Team, the European Champions League was going on and England stood at the bottom of the table, the real reason why he was brought in, is to help England defeat other European countries that would be paired with them. It's a League for all European countries.
The first day of his match with his new team approached, the day he has been waiting and wishing for. Today is the first day he is going to appear with the other selected players of the National Team to play against Germany. Germany are already second on the table and they are a very strong defensive team. Most of the fans, even some of the English, speculate that they are going to win the match which will determine the failure of the English team but Wenton believes he can turn the tide to their favor.
Before the match, the coach, Anderson Peters gathers them for a final moment instruction on how they should play the ball so they wouldn't be defeated, if they lose at this point, they only have two chances to go further into the League which if they don't make good use of would be kicked out of the competition.
They had promised to bring back the cup which they had lost for almost five decades now. "It's for this particular purpose that we signed you," the coach says. Wenton who was having his own thoughts looked up hearing this. He knows that he is the major signing this season, and all eyes were on him. From the television to the internet and the physical conversations of fans, he had become the center of interest.
"We are all looking up to you!" The Assistant coach says, patting him on the shoulders. "We pray you won't disappoint us. If you can score a goal in this first match, we have hope. We don't expect you to score a duo or a hat trick but if you can, it will be to our own favor and your benefit."
He nods to all that is being said, praying that he would be able to do more than it's expected of him most especially to make Imikah who is now in Spain but going to watch his first match as promised with his uncle in England proud. They are the reason why he is playing for the senior men's team and can't let them down.
The time of the match is 17:00 and will be taking place at their stadium which has been built to an international standard. He is happy with the venue chosen, it is gonna be very convenient playing in their stadium because it's where he has trained with his teammates. Being his first time featuring in a professional match, it would not go so well playing in a stadium he has never been before.
It's time for the battle. The players line up at the entrance and walk into the field. When everything is set, the National Anthems of both countries are played. Then the players move on to greet each other, those that know players in the opponent team hug, saying one or more things before patting the back and moving to some other person. Wenton, as he doesn't know anyone, only has to shake hands with the opponents and nothing else.
As they are about to begin the game, while waiting for the wings of each team to be chosen, he feels a hand behind his back, on his shoulders. He turns abruptly to see who it is, he shakes in horror when he discovers it's Iniesta, his fear is inevitable at this point. Someone he has been trying to avoid and has always succeeded in, coming so close and in a situation where he is under pressure prior to the team's and fan's expectations of him, he can only shriek in fear.
Iniesta laughs and pats him. "I want you to be calm, let's leave everything aside, from our personal life when it comes to the field. We are playing as brothers, let's assist each other in every way possible. We can continue our enmity after the match," he says with sarcasm in his tone.
"Hmmm," Wenton smirks with a smile. He is relieved now that Iniesta has come up to make this statement. He had also formed part of his tension but right now, it has been dropped and he can now focus on scoring goals and nothing else. "I've heard you." He replies.
"Nice, good one!" He gives him a thumbs-up. "We are going to play as a team, is that clear? Though all eyes are on you, you shouldn't be selfish with the ball." He nods obediently, amazed at the polite tone Iniesta is using on him. Then Andrea whom he had reported Iniesta to came along, patting him playfully on the back. As he walks on the field ready for the kick-off, the cameras are directed at him more than any other player in the field. Right from home, he is the most seen.
They are given the right wing, Mexico the left. The match officially begins. His first luck is gaining possession of the ball a few meters from the goal box where he would have just shot it in but he misses, a major reason for criticism. Iniesta shoots him a deadly glare from where he is.Wenton swallows saliva, lowering his gaze to the ground while battling with the low self-esteem that has come over him. The second mistake comes when he uses his arms to kick the ball which results in the approval of a free kick for Germany.
Mendez, an experienced player from the German side steps up to handle the free kick, unfortunately for the English Champions, Mendez scores the first goal of the match leaving the scores at 1-0 aggregate. Most of the players from the English side start getting angry, regretting Wenton being brought in. He had committed two major mistakes. The smile on Imikah's face who is watching the match from the comfort of his room fades into a frown. Wenton, the friend he knows, is too good to do this. He remembers the promise he made to him, he is disappointed because he actually introduced him to his uncle as a very good player.
"Let's wait for the second half, perhaps things will change." It has happened so many times in football. "Let me not conclude yet." He says it to himself.
The second half starts after a thorough scolding of Wenton from the coach and the senior players in the dressing room. He vows to change his luck even if fate was actually against him. The wings are now interchanged and they take the left wing. This is not the problem to him, whichever wing they took, he was going to try his best. He increases the speed at which he races at the opponent in possession of the ball who is advancing towards the goal box to score against them, it happens that he is the only player close to Gibbs who races at a terrific speed, a slight dribble is involved and in the next possible chance of him to kick the ball away from his foot, something distracts him, he looks elsewhere and Gibbs takes this chance to score against the English Champions leaving them on a 2-0 aggregate. Everyone in support of the English side turns red with fury. Most of the fans take to the official Twitter handle of the team tagging his name and making so many criticisms, the most promi
He takes some step closer and discovers that it's a Built-in solar microchip Apple watch, an imaginary watch which was designed by the famous inventor, Lusik Preston, two centuries ago to be invented under the light of futuristic tech knowledge. This watch was going to implant microchips into a human lasting for as long as the individual wanted it to, this would give him super knowledge to conquer in any facet of life, the invisible microchips which would go straight to the brains of an individual after the activation button. For the watch he pressed, it would also be able to increase the physical capabilities of the individual above that of any ordinary human. It could make one a superhuman within seconds but tasks need to be completed to achieve this level up. To many it was a joke, a mere imagination which could never come true in the real world and the funniest part of it was that Preston said that only one would be produced in the entire world and that person who would be lucky
Wenton goes back to the initial place he sat on when he entered the woods. He clicks on the task button and the list of tasks appears. He raised his gaze to the instruction above them, he had to choose only one task from among the three and anyone he chooses, he must complete within the next two hours. He thinks for a while thinking of the one to choose, he needed to go for something which would be quite easier. As if this system knew, going back to the team base or going to kneel before Iniesta to apologize would be the simplest ones but he is sure to find no one upon driving back. They had lost a vital game, no one, not even the managerial staff would be found. They have all gone home by now to mourn their defeat. Everywhere would just be empty except for the heavily armed security men guarding the base. He has no available option other than the third, which is the hardest. About eighty percent of the English fans have voiced their anger on him, calling him many names on social me
After everything, Wenton has no other place to go but his family, he would have gone home since except for the downcast spirit cast upon him, the mockery and made-to-feel-bad trait which his mother would likely portray towards him, he didn't want a situation where his depression would get worse. But despite what he has found, he is not going to tell it to anyone until his mind tells him so. Getting into his car, he drives home. The apple watch on his hand becomes instantly invisible, only he knows something is on his hand. Even as it's invisible, it still works if the situation requires it to. The long drive becomes a bit shorter and adventurous, more interesting than when he was coming to the woods. Of course his coming had nothing of interest, he came to avoid the pressures of life, then the attempt to commit suicide came in. Wenton looks out of the window of his car, admiring the beautiful houses, cars and people he passes on the road. He realizes that there is more to life than
Imikah starts to vent the whole of his anger on Wenton. He had really promoted his skills to his uncle, not like he was lying because being in the same club with him, the Sporting Stars Academy FC, he saw how skilled his friend was. He didn't expect to disappoint. Each uncle even called to scold him for lying to him, then he got angry and sent to him tons of videos of the best performances Wenton had in the Academy FC."Then why is he playing so poorly?" Beckham asked but he had already got him annoyed, he read his message but wouldn't reply to it. "You are the cause of the insults and shaming I received from my uncle before he realized the bitter truth. He even said that he was threatened to be sacked by the management if Wenton didn't improve in the next three matches they would be having. He got ridiculed for bringing in the worst player the team ever had. Wenton upon hearing this almost cries, he can't hear this as he starts crying. What he expects of himself is not what he has
He arrives at the living room to find his dad still watching the TV. With a confused face, he walks over to him and sits on the couch beside him, then looks at his face in an indirect way of asking him why he called. "Wenton, I want you to go get some things for me at the mall, I feel so fatigued. I would have gone by myself." He hands over his card to him and a list of items on a piece of paper. "You can buy yourself anything but it shouldn't be more than eighty dollars. Is that okay?" "Yes," he replied with a smile. "Thanks dad." He hurries out of the room, he never expected to get an eighty dollar gift from his dad most especially as he had disappointed the whole family. While on his way to the mall, he wonders why he didn't call Samuel. Then he recalls that the last time Samuel, his elder brother was asked to go pick some ordered stuff from the same supermarket, it nearly took him a whole day to return home. He later came back with the excuse that he met a friend of his whom he
The training begins, with the coach asking Wenton to run around the field ten times during the training duration as punishment for not performing well during the last match. Mike, who is the head coach and is in charge of decision making in the team, does this in an effort to prevent Wenton from partaking in the training. He knows quite well that if he doesn't take part in the training, there is no way he would be part of the next squad that would play with their next match coming in the coming week, a sure date yet to be fixed although it's likely gonna be Tuesday. "To join the training, you would have to run ten laps around the field," he said to him. Wenton stood there watching him in surprise, he started imagining how he was going to run around the standard football pitch which is one hundred and five meters in length and sixty-eight meters in width. Such a great stress. Though he tried to plead and waited to see if he would change his mind, nothing happened. He even let him go t
With such a wonderful performance at the match, the reporters take their cameras to Wenton. They ask him so many questions all at once, wanting to know the secret behind his sudden excellent performance. "Wenton, you had an incredible performance today during the fake match, as the best players in your team or playing against your team couldn't stand against you. What's the secret to this?" One of them asks a female reporter while the others bring their recording devices to record what he is going to say. "I will love to attribute my performance to personal drills, hard work and believe in myself. Since I disappointed the team, the fans and the world of football by my poor performance yesterday, I resolved to step up to the plate, train harder by myself and today I'm seeing the result!" He declares with so much confidence which is motivated by the system. He would never say anything about the support he is getting from the system, even to his parents and close friends, they wouldn't
