Paying them back

“What's going on here?” The man said again.

“Sir, I believe you are the manager of this store?” Eric asked casually and the man nodded. “I want you to fire this girl right here in this instant. She shouldn't be rude to customers.” He added, frowning.

Instantly, the manager's face changed. His expression changed from a frown to a smile after exchanging glances with the sales agent.

“Young man, who are you to tell me what to do?” The manager said with a hint of disgust in his eyes.

Eric was taken aback. He didn't expect the manager to give such a response. Didn't they consider customers’ interest in this place?

“Sir, he was about to touch this necklace when I stopped him, and now he is spatting nonsense.” The sales agent said.

“Which of them?” The manager replied.

“This one,” she replied, pointing at the jade necklace to him. As soon as he caught sight of it, he gasped in shock. There was a price tag on it to warn those who couldn't afford it never to come close yet this man had the guts. The manager was furious.

“Young man, how dare you? Does this look like a cheap store to you? Can't you read figures and tell it is above your entire worth if at all you are put in the market?” The manager shot him a glare.

Eric smiled. He saw the price tag well enough, and that was a good reason why he wanted that piece. Why were they degrading him? Was it because of his looks or what?

“I see the reason you have bald hair,” Eric chuckled. “It's because you have no sense in that thick skull of yours. Would I have come here if I couldn't buy any of these?” He snapped, staring at both of them mockingly.

Both the manager and the sales agent were shocked by his words. Eric didn't only dare to walk into the store, but he also dared to insult the manager.

“I can see poverty has drained your manners. You think there is a place where you can showcase your stupidity?” The sales agent snapped right close to his face.

Eric quickly pulled back and clutched his nose. Though it wasn't relevant, he wanted to put her in her place.

“You should get a mouthwash. Your salary should be good enough.” He snapped at her and she quickly sealed her mouth.

“Young man, get out of here, or I will call the guards on you!” The manager was fed up. Eric was getting more annoying by the second, and he was holding himself from jumping on him.

“I want that necklace. That's all I came for.” Eric said simply.

“You want it, right? Why don't you pay for it, then I will wrap it up for you?” The manager replied with a hint of sarcasm in his tone.

Ignoring it, Eric dipped his hand into his pockets and pulled out a platinum card. Seeing this, everyone's eyes widened in shock. They couldn't believe their eyes. That card was owned by rich people who had a minimum of a hundred million in their account. How could someone as lowly as him get it?

The manager collected it and started glancing through it. He couldn't believe he was holding such in his hands.

“That's not his own. He must have stolen it.” The sales agent found her voice as she ridiculed him.

“If you know how to read, then you can see my name, Eric's body written on it.” Eric smiled.

The manager quickly checked just by the bottom and saw Eric's name boldly written on it. He could have doubted, but now he didn't. It was true. Eric owned the card.

“I don't believe him. It must be a fake, then. A poor man like you can't have a platinum card.” The sales agent said while the manager recovered from the shock after seeing sense in what she said.

“Young man, you better not fool me or else you will rot in jail!” He threatened as he shot Eric a glare before turning to the sales agent. “Call the bank. Have them verify if this card is real.” He handed over the card quickly and she ran to bring a phone.

Before leaving, she flashed Eric a smirk, but the latter was unfazed by it. He even stood cross-armed waiting for her. After she was back, she dialed a number and put it on loudspeaker.

“Please, I want to confirm a platinum card.” She said over the phone.

“Card number please.” Someone said over the phone, and she gave out the numbers written on the card quickly. A smile was written on her face as she waited for the result.

“It is valid. The card is legit.” The voice said on the loudspeaker and everyone gasped. The sales agent began to shiver as she heard so, and the card almost fell off, but Eric quickly collected it.

The manager, who was staring at him in disgust, quickly bowed his head. It had been a while since they made a big sale so he wouldn't want to lose a customer like this, especially one with a platinum card.

“I am sorry, sir. I never knew you could afford it. Forgive me please.” The manager begged Eric, almost falling to his knees.

“And I tried explaining, yet you didn't care to pay attention.” Eric sneered and wanted to walk away when the man quickly went on his knees.

“Please sir, we are truly sorry.” He pleaded and turned to the sales agent, who was still shivering. “Kneel and beg, or you are dead!” He snapped at her and quickly she knelt and started begging.

It hadn't been long since she got the job. Knowing she was dead meat, she had to kneel and plead.

Eric stared at them for a while before smiling. It seemed they had recovered their senses.

“Wrap things up!” He said to the Sales agent, and her mood lightened up. She quickly stood up and started packaging it when Eric spoke again. “All of it.” He added, and this time not only the manager but even other customers gasped at the sight of this.

It seems Eric was rich and they might have misjudged him. The manager couldn't hide his happiness. For just a day he would sell everything worth almost fifty million. That was enough to keep his heart warm.

Shortly after, the sales agent was done packing and quickly brought the bags to Eric smiling.

“Your card sir,” she said, stretching her hand forward.

“Who said I was buying? You said it's not for sale, right? So I told you to wrap it up. It's better in a bag than inside a showcase.” Eric said coldly and walked out of the store.
