Beggar In The Store

Bastien swallowed a big lump in his throat seeing the menacing look in Chris’s eyes. He took several steps back, and said shakily, “Don’t scare me, little boy.”

However, his back hit one of the men in black and he staggered to the side. “Hey! Apologize!” He snarled but then the man didn't even spare him a glance as he walked up to meet Chris.

He seemed to be the boss and he bowed before Chris, “Hello, Young Master Chris. I hope we didn't delay for too long.”

“Nahh… it’s alright.” Chris waved his hand in dismissal. “What’s your name?”

“Mason, young master.” Mason straightened up and then his eyes zeroed in on Bastien who had his mouth gaped in shock.

“How do you want us to punish the man who offended the heir of the Westminster family, young master?”

“What?” Bastien let out in shock and not only was he shocked, but the car insurance expert was also shocked.

“Little kid! Don't tell me you are the heir of the Westminster family. The owner of the biggest consortium in the country?” The insurance expert was amazed and he was trying to approach Chris when Mason blocked him.

“Step aside, please.” Mason pushed the expert away and he staggered toward Bastien who looked horrified at the realization that he had just offended a big fish while he was just a seashell.

Bastien felt his knees go weak and he wasn't ignorant of how powerful the Westminster family was. In the next second, he went down on his knees and a tear dropped from his eyes.

“Please…” He started to crawl toward Chris. “I didn't know what came over me.”

But before he could even get to Chris, Mason stepped forward and kicked him backward.

Bang!

Bastien’s back slammed on the VW car he damaged and he coughed up blood. But swiftly, he got down on his knees again. He didn't mind begging to save his life.

“I'm sorry. If I knew you were the heir of the Westminster family, I wouldn't have done it!” This time, his tears flowed freely as he whimpered, bowed, and rubbed his palms at the same time.

Chris couldn't believe what he had just said and it even got him even angrier, “So, if I was a normal person, you would have done the same thing to me, huh?”

“No…” Bastien shook his head, realizing the weight of his words. “I will never. I have learned my lessons.”

It took a few minutes of begging before Chris stopped him. He didn't like the way the onlookers were staring and he just wanted to get the hell out of there.

“Listen,” Chris demanded Bastien’s attention. “As long as you compensate me for the car, then you can go your way.”

Bastien nodded, vigorously. He knew that this was the best resolution he could get otherwise, he might lose his arm or his leg.

“Mason, see to it that he pays everything–”

“No.” Mason cut Chris curtly. Chris frowned with a displeased look and Mason went on to explain, “As the heir of the Westminster family, you have a dignity that cannot be violated. So, he has to be punished and it will serve as a lesson to others.” Mason glared at the onlookers and they all took a step back fearfully.

“No…please.” Bastien shook his head and started to crawl toward Chris again but one man in black was quick to drag him at Mason’s signal.

Mason took the baseball bat from earlier as they dragged Bastien to his yellow Ferrari.

“Watch this!” Mason smirked wickedly and before everyone, he swung the bat straight at the car’s window with so much force.

Bang!

The glass shards flew all over, piercing Bastien’s face and flying over. The onlookers were quick to run away to safety while the men in black shielded Chris.

However, Chris didn't feel settled watching this, not only was Mason destroying the car, he was harming Bastien as well.

“Please! Stop him!” Bastien ran to beg Chris, crying, “That is all I have.” He had used all his money for that car.

“Mason, that’s okay.”

“No, Young Master Chris. You must not speak up for people like him.” With every word, Mason hit the car, making several dents deeper than the one on the VW car.

“You just have to sit back and relax. You are no longer a poor student and you represent the Westminster family. You have to keep up the powerful front.”

Chris had no words of rebuttal. Mason was right. He realized he needed to accept that this may be the norm unless people learned to respect him. But then he warned the men not to harm Bastien further and just deal with the car.

“I’ll be right back.” He told one of the men in black and went straight to the mall. Soon, he found a luxury store that sold gifts suitable for girls like Mia.

He wanted to get her the most expensive thing, so he didn't hesitate.

He walked to the glass door of the store, however, a woman dressed in flashy clothes with gold rings lining her fingers walked out of the store. She was about to pass by but then stopped, seeing how Chris looked.

She stopped him.

“I'm sorry, you can’t go in.” She eyed him from head to toe.

“Excuse me? Why?” Chris was perplexed.

“Well… look at you. A poor guy like you who can't afford good clothes definitely can't afford the luxury  goods in there.”

The woman’s voice was high-pitched, attracting the attention of other buyers and the attendants. Quickly, a female attendant walked forward and bowed before the woman.

“Mrs. Wales, is there a problem?” The attendant was so respectful like she was going to be harmed if she didn't do so.

“Yes. There is a problem,” The woman eyed Chris maliciously and pointed at him, with a sneer, “Why is there a beggar in this store?”
