As Chris stood there, breathing heavily, his men began to panic. He also saw the body of one of the guys on the floor.

“Chris! Do something, man!” one of them yelled, struggling under the grip of Elijah’s bodyguards.

“This is all your fault, Chris! If you hadn’t gone after the damn girl, we wouldn’t be in this mess!” another spat, his face twisted with anger.

“Yeah, you just had to be greedy, didn’t you?” one of the guys who had been drinking earlier snapped. “You just had to have her all to yourself first! Now look where we are!”

“Shut the fuck up!” Chris barked, his face red with frustration and fear.

“Nah, you shut the fuck up!” one of them shot back. “Because of you, one of us is already dead upstairs, and now we’re about to join him!”

Chris gritted his teeth, glancing back at Elijah, whose face remained cold and unbothered.

Elijah tilted his head. “This is interesting,” he mused. “Your own men turning against you. It seems loyalty only goes so far.”

Outside, the night air was cool, a stark contrast to the heavy scent of blood inside. He reached the car and opened the door, his gaze immediately softening as he saw Sierra resting in the front seat, the seat extended back for comfort. Her breathing was steady, though she still looked exhausted.Elijah slid into the driver’s seat and reached out, brushing his fingers lightly over her hand. “I’m back,” he murmured, his voice gentler now. “You’ll be fine. I promise.”Sierra stirred slightly as she felt Elijah’s warmth beside her. Slowly, she extended her hand, slipping it into his. He looked down at their intertwined fingers before bringing her hand to his lips, pressing a gentle kiss against her skin.“What about Felix?” she asked weakly.Elijah’s expression didn’t change. “He’ll be handed over to the police. Everything is being taken care of.”Sierra nodded, accepting his words without suspicion. Then, as if something clicked in her mind, she asked, “What about the phone Felix record

Sierra blinked up at him, her body weak but her heart full. The nurse stepped forward, opening her bag to begin examining her.Celeste wasted no time as she unzipped her large medical bag and began setting up her equipment with smooth precision. She pulled out a stethoscope, placing it neatly on the nightstand before reaching for a small flashlight, which she tested before setting it beside the stethoscope.Next, she brought out a digital blood pressure monitor, unrolling the cuff carefully. She placed a pulse oximeter on the bedside table, followed by a small case of syringes and vials—most likely antidotes or treatments for drug intoxication. A thermometer, antiseptic wipes, and a small notepad were next, each placed in an orderly fashion as she prepared to assess Sierra properly. She also retrieved a portable IV drip stand, adjusting its height before hanging a bag of saline solution on it. As she carefully prepared the tubing, she glanced at Sierra, her expression calm and reassur

"A thief?" Elijah asked, tilting his head slightly, amusement flickering in his eyes."Give me your phone," the man said more firmly, stepping closer. "And your car key. Every dollar you have, too."Elijah chuckled, shaking his head. "First of all, thinking you'll get my phone is a joke. Secondly, asking for my car keys?" He let out another laugh. "Now that’s even funnier."The thief scowled, gripping the knife tighter."You know what? I'm in a hurry." Elijah reached into his pocket and pulled out a thick stack of hundred-dollar bills. "Here," he said, holding them up. "This is $5,000… or more, I think. Have it and just leave.”The thief hesitated, his eyes widening as he snatched the cash. He quickly counted through it, his fingers shaking slightly. His breathing hitched when he realized it was actually $7,100.But greed had already taken hold."Drop your car key and the phone too," he demanded, his knife still pointed at Elijah. His confidence grew as he saw how easily Elijah had ha

Nathaniel’s father frowned, his sharp eyes narrowing. “What do you mean by some guy shut down the proposal?”Nathaniel exhaled through his nose, still feeling the sting of the interaction. “I mean exactly that. I approached Celestine Valencia, but instead of responding to me, she let some man sitting beside her take charge. He questioned everything—picked apart our security protocols, pointed out flaws, and made it seem like working with us was a risk instead of an opportunity. By the time he was done talking, Celestine had lost interest, and I had no way to counter him.”His father’s expression darkened with anger. “And you just let that happen?” He scoffed, shaking his head in disappointment. “You let some nobody dismiss years of our research and development like it was nothing?” He stood up abruptly, his hands tightening into fists at his sides.Nathaniel clenched his jaw. “I—”“I might have been wrong handing Mercer Innovations over to you,” his father interrupted, his tone sharp

Elijah leaned slightly against the wall, his expression calm. “It’s a thank-you tip.”Celeste let out a soft chuckle and shook her head. “Thank you, but I can’t accept it. You’ve already paid for everything. There’s no need to give me anything extra. It’s my duty.”Elijah shook his head. “Have it. Moreover, I love how you work. I’ll take your contact and call you directly next time when there’s an issue.”Celeste hesitated for a moment before finally taking the money. “Alright. Thank you.”She then took his phone from the table, quickly typed in her number, and saved it. Handing it back to him, she said, “Now you can reach me whenever.”Elijah nodded. “Thank you, Celeste. It’s really late—are you sure you can leave safely?”Celeste smiled and waved off his concern. “Oh yes, I brought the hospital car, so that’s not a problem. I’m heading back to the hospital.”Elijah gave a small nod and walked her to the door. He watched as she got into the car and drove off before locking the main g

At 5 AM, Sierra’s eyes slowly blinked open. The room was still dim, the early morning light barely peeking through the curtains. She felt warm, incredibly so—and that was when she realized…Elijah’s arm was still wrapped around her.Her body stiffened slightly as the memory of last night came rushing back. She had slept on his chest. And worse—she had pulled the duvet over both of them herself. Her cheeks flushed at the thought. But at the same time… she had never slept so well in her life.Letting out a soft exhale, she carefully shifted her gaze to Elijah’s face. He was still deeply asleep, his breathing slow and even. There was a peacefulness to him that she hadn’t seen often—his usual sharp, calculating expression was completely gone.I should get up.She had a lot to do today. First, she wanted to at least prepare something nice for Elijah—it was the least she could do to thank him for everything. She also needed to replace her phone and get the other things she had already plann

Whose car is this, Sierra?”“Mine,” Sierra said casually, one hand on the wheel, the other adjusting the music.“Yours?” Betty blinked in disbelief. “Ah, really? You bought a car?!”Sierra nodded with a small smile. “Yeah. Well… technically I paid like one percent of it. Elijah did the rest. He said it’s a gift.”Betty's mouth flew open. “What?! Elijah just gifted you a whole car? This is insane!” She ran her fingers along the dashboard, eyes wide. “This is so beautiful, my God. Girl, this interior? The smell? Celestine’s eyes blazed as she snapped, “You idiots! Who said I would’ve even listened—been cool—if Elijah hadn’t asked me to hold back?” Her voice cut through the boardroom like a whip, her anger barely restrained. The men flinched, guilt and humiliation plastered across their faces.Elijah rose slowly, his calm presence regaining control of the room. He looked over each of them before speaking, voice steady and absolute.“Just as I promised,” he said, “you won’t be fired. You won’t be handed over to the police.”The board members exhaled in visible relief—too soon.“But,” Elijah continued, his tone sharpening, “there will be punishment. Return the million immediately—every dollar.”They nodded eagerly.“But for one full year,” Elijah said, “none of you will have any authority to interfere in company decisions. You’ll remain on the board, yes—but you’ll hold zero approval power. Think of it as being ghosts in the room. Present. But powerless.”They gasped.“This is too much,” one of

It was the fourth man, the soft-spoken one who had claimed he only handled operations. His hand was raised stiffly, almost as if it pained him to do it. His voice cracked slightly, but there was no mistaking the words.“I’ll talk,” he repeated, eyes fixed on Elijah. The silence that followed was deafening.Elijah didn’t move, didn’t blink. He let the weight of the man’s confession sit heavy in the room for a heartbeat longer before slowly lowering the tablet to the table.“Good,” he said, his tone still calm. “Start talking.”The others gulped—visibly, audibly. One of them shifted in his seat. Another wiped at his brow, suddenly clammy. The room seemed to shrink around them as the man slowly stood, shoulders hunched beneath the weight of what he was about to reveal. He looked directly at Elijah, then at Celestine, whose expression remained carved from stone.“I—I’m sorry,” he began, voice trembling. “Please… don’t let Ms. Valencia send me to prison. I—I’ll tell the truth. All of it.”

Elijah held up the tablet. “Profit’s down, but revenue’s steady. Someone’s hiding cash—or pocketing it. And it’s not her.”He turned the screen toward them, showing a flat revenue line against a dipping profit. “She boosted output, cut downtime, saved a merger—every move you blamed her for made you money. So why frame her? Covering a stash? Or just mad she’s in charge?”The board sat stunned, their answers twisting back to expose their own failures—or worse. Celestine’s gaze hardened, catching the implication.Elijah lowered the tablet, his gaze shifting from the board to Celestine. The room’s tension was a coiled spring. He met her eyes, voice steady and calm.“Ms. Valencia, shall I continue? Do you want me to find out where the missing one million is? Might get stressful, but if you want, I can stay here, demand every report printed, trace every source, dig until I see where it went. Just an hour.”Celestine’s lips pressed into a thin line, her eyes flicking over the board before lo

What does he want with that?” He leaned forward, adjusting his frames as he scrutinized Elijah, his voice rising slightly. “Who even are you to ask for it? This is a board matter—private. You’ve got no business touching our reports.”The first man, fingers still hovering near his tie, chimed in, his brow furrowing. “Yeah, what’s this about? You’re not part of this discussion. If you’ve got something to say, say it—don’t just demand our data.”The fourth man, softer-spoken but now edgy, added, “This isn’t a free-for-all. What’s he going to do with it? We don’t even know why he’s here.”Celestine’s eyes flashed, and she raised a hand, her voic
