Laxus was speechless for a minute, not knowing what exactly to do or say. He struggled between telling Nessy the truth and simply finding a convenient lie, because in all honesty, he did not want to talk about the family and past he had left behind.

“I can’t tell you, I am sorry,” Laxus eventually said calmly.

He began to wonder what Linnie came to Nessy’s apartment for, and why she would be threatening Nessy. They had absolutely nothing binding them together, so why would she be harassing Nessy?

“How am I supposed to feel safe when I don’t know what is going on?” Nessy asked, and Laxus understood where she was coming from, but he found it difficult to just tell Nessy everything.

“How did she even find out that you live here?” Laxus asked.

There were so many thoughts and questions running through his head now, and he wanted answers to most of them. He would have confronted Linnie, but Laxus had sworn never to have anything to do with her.

“You tell me,” Nessy said, crossing her hands

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   A Kinkaid In Disguise

Laxus arrived in Las Vegas, hoping for a fresh start. He had left the Kinkaid mansion with nothing but the clothes on his back. As expected, all his accounts linked to the Kinkaids were frozen, a clear move by his father. Despite having earned the money legally, it didn't matter because of the Kinkaid name attached to them. His father was likely trying to show him that he couldn’t survive without the family’s help.Fortunately, Laxus had a small amount stashed away in a separate account under a different name. It wasn't much compared to his frozen accounts, but it was enough to rent a modest apartment, buy a few clothes, and cover basic meals for a week. The reality hit hard. He needed a job fast, or he’d end up on the streets. He laughed bitterly at the irony. Just days ago, he had more than enough to eat, even if he wasn’t treated well. Now, he was starting from scratch, determined to make it on his own.Laxus hurried through the crowded streets, holding his coat over his head to sh

You think you can hide that?""Laxus swallowed hard, but before he could respond, Drake continued. ""You’re going to quit this job. ""You don’t have to do this, Drake. We can talk—""“There’s nothing to talk about,” Drake interrupted. “Either you quit, or your little secret becomes public knowledge.”Laxus clenched his fists, anger mixing with fear. But he knew Drake wasn’t bluffing. He had no choice. ""Fine. I’ll quit.”Drake smirked, satisfied. ""Good. • Out Of The Blue

Nessy was shaken after Mrs. Linnie Kinkaid left her apartment. Her threat sent shivers down Nessy’s spine, and she became more afraid for her life now than when she was being threatened to spill the beans about the incident with Gary which Laxus was slightly involved in or even when she was sleeping in the counter without protecting.Things are deeper and more dangerous than you know…The words kept ringing in Nessy’s head. She worked as a slave for Gary for years before she killed him in self-defense, and being a man of wealth and power, she knew just how evil and dangerous their world was. Now, Laxus had become one of the richest and powerful men in the city, which meant that he was truly not the same person that she worked with in Mr. Henry’s restaurant.Nessy had almost totally forgotten that she knew little or nothing about Laxus, and now, he was right in the midst of demons and dragons, and for all she knew, he could be one of them, because if he wasn’t, why had a woman like Mrs

  • A Warning Visit

When Nessy heard her doorbell ringing, she was perplexed as to who would be visiting her. Since she moved into this apartment, she had not had any guest over for visitation; not like she had friends anyway, so the first person that came to her mind was Laxus.“What could he be doing here?” She asked herself, surprised already surprised…and agitated even though she was yet to open the door. This was the first time Laxus would be visiting her in her apartment, and even though he paid for everything, he hadn’t thought it wise to come before now. Also, it was getting late.Quite frankly, if Nessy was being honest with herself, she would admit that being around Laxus made her feel uneasy.Anyway, the doorbell continued to ring, and Nessy knew that she would have to eventually answer it. When Nessy opened the doorbell without checking from her peephole to even be certain that it was Laxus first, she was shocked to see no other person but Mrs. Linnie Kinkaid standing right in front of her, i

  • Heart Condition

“Are you okay?” Laxus asked Bowman, his attention quickly shifting from the barrister to Bowman.Bowman quickly steadied himself, surprised that he had reacted to the news in that manner. Granted, he was shocked and devastated by the news, but it wasn’t enough for him to lose his balance.“Yes, I am fine, thank you,” Bowman said, and it was not until Laxus was certain that Bowman could stand on his own that he decided to leave him.Laxus continued to pay close attention to Bowman, and if he was being honest with himself, he would actually admit that when he caught Bowman almost going down, his heart had skipped a bit. Laxus wondered if Bowman was ill, because for a man like Bowman, he did not expect such reaction.“Who are these people? Ask them to leave!” Barrister Dickson yelled frightfully. The fear in his eyes was so intense that Laxus could barely look at him, and he wondered what the lawyer might have gone through that would make him so scared of anyone at all.“We should talk o

  • Memory Loss

“We have to go,” Bowman turned to Laxus and said after his call with Dragon.Laxus, however, did not think it was a good idea. For him, he was more worried about the fact that Thaddeus had been taken by someone, and Laxus had no doubt now that that person would be no other person but Darwin. Right now, he wanted to sort this issue out, because he believed that the news from Dragon about the lawyer could actually wait.“Right now?” Laxus asked Bowman.“Yes,” Bowman answered. “We have to now that he is awake and conscious,” Bowman added.“But we can always do that later, Bowman. What are we going to do about Darwin’s attempt to ruin me and your company?” Laxus asked worriedly.Bowman looked at Laxus and smiled. “Listen, boy, two things can be handled at the same time, and while we wait for things with Darwin to be sorted out, we should go and see the lawyer,” Bowman insisted.Laxus knew at this point that he would no longer be able to stop or persuade Bowman. • False Statements

Everyone was gathered in Darwin’s office, including Thaddeus who was still looking as though he was going to pee in his pants any moment from now. Darwin ensured that Detective George was always present, because he knew exactly how things like this usually played out. Luther was also there, and as expected, he was fuming, but Darwin refused to let that change anything. Darwin knew exactly what he was doing; he was a desperate and an ambitious father and businessman, and someday soon, Luther would understand all of it. Then there was Linnie, Darwin’s new shining light, and unlike what a lot of people knew about Darwin, he would use Linnie to achieve his goals before he finally decided on what he would do with her, although he already admitted that Linnie was surpassing his expectations by her exceptional skills. Then Darwin also invited the company lawyer and of course, a popular blogger to push the narrative. If he had never been serious about dragging Laxus down, he meant it now, e

He was more infuriated with Darwin now more than ever, and he wished that he could just do what he had in mind and finish everything off once and for all.“Please don’t say that,” Bowman said, trying to prevent his voice from shaking due to the immense emotion he was feeling. “Come with me, Laxus,” Bowman added as he led Laxus to his study room where they could talk privately. When they got there, Bowman poured them both two glasses of scotch.“I don’t think I am in the mood for drinks,” Laxus said, his eyes welling with tears. “Gosh, I am so close to achieving things, and now, it is going to go down the drain,” Laxus added sorrowfully. Now was not the time to cajole Laxus into drinking anything, so Bowman decided to drink alone. Then he sat close to Laxus and squeezed his knee hard.“A man should never accept defeat, especially when the battle hasn’t even begun,” Bowman said.“What should I do?” Laxus
