“I don’t want to talk about her,” Laxus said and hoped deep down that Nessy would just let things rest.

Laxus decided that he would have to send a formal warning to Linnie, or even get a restraining order against her to protect Nessy so that they would not have to deal with this anymore.

Laxus could not believe how broken he was by just seeing Nessy hurt and withdrawn from him. He had no idea that he wanted Nessy to be unhappy with him.

“Then I am sorry, Mr. Laxus, but I cannot go anywhere with you, or continue working for you, or even staying in this lovely apartment you got for me,” Nessy said.

Laxus was deeply heartbroken. He could not believe his ears, and for a minute, he thought he had heard wrongly…Laxus hoped that he had actually heard wrongly.

“Excuse me?” Laxus asked in disbelief.

“You heard everything I said, Mr. Laxus,” Nessy said, going back to being very formal with Laxus, and he hated it. Nessy saw how shocked Laxus was and she shook her head. “Oh, you thought that a l

Nessy sat there, stunned into speechlessness. In everything that had gone through her head, she never thought of that. She never imagined that was what Laxus would say, and now that he had said it, she could not even think. Her mind had gone completely blank.“Or I was a Kinkaid,” Laxus corrected. It still didn’t change anything of who Laxus was, and Nessy wondered if she was experiencing something strange and unreal for the very first time. She knew that Kinkaid family; who didn’t know one of the wealthiest and influential families in the city? The Kinkaid Distillery company had been in existence before Nessy was born, and they had been very successful. Never had Nessy thought that she would ever sit with a Kinkaid in the same space and this closely, because the social standing was far apart.Nessy and Laxus stayed quiet for some time.Nessy did not know what to say or even how to react to what she just heard, and Laxus didn’t seem like he was going to say something else anytime soo

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Brunt Of Betrayal

    “You and Linnie were engaged?” Nessy asked, shocked.She had heard of betrayals, like what her own father did to her by giving her away without considering her feelings or thinking about her safety simply because he wanted to get Gary off his neck, but this had to be the deepest betrayals she had ever heard. Nessy had never fallen in love before, but she knew that being hurt and betrayed by the people you loved and trusted had to be the worst pain in the entire world.“Yes, we were,” Laxus started. “I loved Linnie so much, Nessy. She was an ordinary waitress when we met and I fell in love with her. She seemed different from all the other high class girls I had met my entire life, and I thought that she was truly different. I thought Linnie loved me, but I was wrong. The moment an offer to marry my brother instead and enjoy the wealth and fame that came with being a Kinkaid was dangled in front of her, Linnie grabbed it,” Laxus explained.“She chose your brother over you?” Nessy asked;

Nessy immediately shook her head the moment the thought came; it was totally wrong of her to come to such a conclusion. Besides, her own father also gave her away to a total stranger, and up till this very moment, neither of her parents had made any attempt to find or reach Nessy.“I am sorry you had to go through all that,” Nessy said, and she meant it.She knew exactly what it felt like to be betrayed and hurt by people you loved and cherished, especially family members.“There is no need for you to feel sorry for me,” Laxus said tightly. “I do not regret anything that has happened in the past, because it has helped me become who I am today,” Laxus added.Nessy nodded in agreement. She could tell that the entire situation was still affecting Laxus, whether or not he liked to admit it. One thing that Nessy knew for sure was that if anyone was truly over their past, they would not be angry and hurt when the conversation was brought up.“And I didn’t tell you any of this so that you wo

Darwin, Luther, and Linnie, along with the other members of the board spent ample time having a meeting in the conference room where Luther made some presentations as well as Linnie. One thing Linnie observed was how well Luther presented the assignment given to him.Linnie knew her husband. First of all, regardless of the fact that he now showed up at the company every day without fail, he did not really give a shit about Kinkaid Distillery Company. In fact, he was now extremely showing signs of dedication and commitment simply because she had been hired. Secondly, he was not that smart. If Laxus had done the presentation, Linnie would have been wowed by the excellence, but not Luther Kinkaid.Everyone was impressed, but Linnie was skeptical.“Well, the meeting is over now,” Darwin began after all said and done. “Everyone should please take their jobs seriously and ensure that we are on board. This company must be ranked as the best distillery company in the city, and no other compan

Laxus waited for Linnie at the location he sent to her. It was a private place, and because of his standing in the city, he was assured of privacy.Laxus would not have demanded for privacy in this manner, but he needed to address and correct things. He also knew that he should have just gone about this the legal way, but judging by Darwin’s lawsuit threat, if he went right ahead with legal restriction orders, they might twist the narrative and say that Laxus was only doing it because of what he was being accused of, and knowing how gullible the public were, they would buy it hook, line, and sinker.Laxus knew without a doubt that Linnie would show up and show he waited for her patiently, and he was right; Linnie walked right in a couple of minutes later. She had a smile on her face, but as Laxus set his eyes on her, his stomach recoiled in anger.“Have you ordered something for me? You have always known what I like and gotten it correctly,” Linnie said sweetly.Laxus was only having

It had been a long day for Laxus, but one thing he was grateful for was that he had been able to warn Linnie off. Nevertheless, he had also instructed one of bodyguards to hang around Nessy’s apartment just in case Linnie tried to be stubborn, because she was not to be trusted. He had given the bodyguard a firm instruction to not only prevent anyone strange from gaining access into the apartment, but also informing him immediately. Laxus would do anything to keep Nessy safe.Albeit, Nessy was not aware of the bodyguard arrangement.Laxus didn’t get the chance to go back to the office and speak to Bridget about what Nessy said about her, but he could always do that the next day. Darwin put the box on his desk and looked at it for some minutes. He just stared at it, allowing his mind to go blank for some seconds. Till now, he had not been able to open it. He had thought of giving it to a blacksmith to break the locks so just that he could see what was in it that the bloody old woman kept hidden from everyone, but then again, Darwin might get caught in the process. Besides, there was no reason to hurry up with it, especially now that his hands were full with other important things, like finding ways to bring Laxus down. He had all the time in the world to open it. The only persons that knew that the box was with him were Luther and Detective George, and he trusted them to keep their mouths shut. And he was the only one who knew that the box was in this very building and in his office.Darwin had contemplated carrying it to his house, but he was always having whores over, and as such, he did not want to take the risk of any of them snooping around. Linnie stood above Luther and stared at him for some minutes. He was still breathing, so she was certain that he had merely passed out; it must have been the effect of the alcohol in his system.“Bastard,” Linnie cussed him, resisting the urge to actually spit on his face.As she looked at him, she realized that she hated Luther Kinkaid with passion. If she wasn’t mindful of what laid at stake, she might have succumbed to the temptation of choking him and watching him die. This was literally the first time that Linnie was having this strong urge to kill, and she could not tell if it was as a result of the hatred she had for Luther or what she had experienced at Darwin’s office a few hours ago.“Who is helpless now?” Linnie asked the unconscious Luther hatefully.Luther stayed on the ground without moving, and the only thing that signified that he was still alive was the rising and falling of his beating chest. He was just like his father, Darwin, who was probably still lying just like

  • Quick Move

“Where the fuck are you coming from?” Linnie jerked in shock at the sound of Luther’s rude and harsh voice the moment she limped into the living room. She hadn’t expected that she would run into him. Heck, she hadn’t even thought about him at all, otherwise she would have been careful. She had been dealing with the excruciating pain in her knee and what she just discovered some hours ago.“And why are you dressed like this?” Luther pressed further as he got up and walked closer to Luther. The moment he got close to Luther, she could smell the stench of alcohol on him. He was holding a small glass of whiskey, and from the way he walked, it was obvious that he was slightly drunk.“I took a long drive around the city,” Linnie answered. Then she tried to walk past Luther so that she could go upstairs, take some painkillers for the knee, and of course, have a long bath. Her knee was hurting so badly that she already knew that she would be visiting the doctor first thing the next day.“You

  • Deeper And Deeper

“You could have gotten yourself killed, Dragon! Why don’t you ever listen to me?” Bowman scolded Dragon angrily as they sat at the back of Bowman’s car, returning to his mansion.Aside from his obvious anger, Bowman sounded frightened, and for the first time, Dragon felt the man’s tough and fierce love towards him, and it almost melted Dragon’s heart. It was good to know that Bowman felt the same way he felt about him.“I always listen to you,” Dragon said, groaning in pain. His entire body hurt from wrestling with Darwin and the parts where Darwin’s vengeful punches hit him hurt like hell, but he was more than grateful that he wasn’t dead instead.“Darwin could have killed you in a heartbeat and you know it,” Bowman continued.“Well then, let’s be thankful of small miracles like whatever he saw on his damn phone that made him to lose focus for a second,” Dragon said.He sounded nonchalant about what just happened, but deep down, he was shaky and relieved at the same time. • An Escape, Finally

With shaky fingers, Linnie typed a quick message to Darwin and hoped that it would be enough distraction. She could not think of something else that would work effectively in a moment like this.“My men should have killed you when you tried to save Barrister Dickson from my hands, but they were just so incompetent. I am glad that I get to do it myself, and this time around, with a good reason to back it up,” Darwin said as he pointed the gun towards the intruder.Linnie still couldn’t see his face, which she desperately wanted to, because she wanted to see if he was afraid of dying.“Whatever could be a good reason to become a murderer?” The intruder asked. If he was scared and worried for his life, he was perfect at masking it, because he sounded collected and calm, and Linnie wondered how he could have achieved that, being that she was nervous to death from her hiding place.Aside from the fact that she feared that if she got out of this alive, she might have a permanently damaged k

  • Good Guess

Unable to express her shock and fear by gasping, Linnie’s mouth fell open.Darwin had a gun with him and she doubted that the other man knew this! She had never seen Darwin with a gun before. Heck, she had never even imagined that he was a gun man. Granted, everyone who knew Darwin knew that he was a dangerous man, but a gun? The way he kept the gun between his belt and waist, it was obvious that he was not an amateur. It then dawned on Linnie that the situation was more dire and dangerous than she had thought it was. Now, Linnie was even more afraid for the intruder’s life than she was for herself. At least, Darwin had no idea that she was in his office as well; neither of the men knew that there was a third party, and if she was lucky, none of them would bother themselves with coming around Darwin’s desk. The thought of Darwin shooting and killing someone in her very presence scared the shit out of Linnie, and she realized that she was not even as strong-hearted and cruel as she had

  • Some Kinkaid Truths

We meet again, Darwin.”Linnie heard the man say, and even though she could not see him, he did not sound anything remotely resembling someone who was afraid, even though he was the intruder.Linnie wasn’t that surprised, because she already knew that assassins and men that did other people’s dirty works did not live in fear or faced obstacles with trembling. They might get scared at a point, but somehow, they had trained themselves never to display any form of fear, especially in situations like this. The only person who was dying of fear was Linnie herself. She could hear her heart thumping loudly and slamming hard against her ribs, and she worried that with the way her heart was beating, Darwin and the intruder would hear. She was worried that the sound of her beating heart which she was hearing in her ears would attract their attention.Linnie tried to steady her racing heart and put her mind to rest, but she could not. She was right in the face of danger, and she had no idea what

  • Room For Three

Dragon entered Darwin’s office and met it quiet and calm as expected; it was late by the way, but something made him wary. He had hoped that he would have some difficulty getting the door to open, but then again, the door had been totally unlocked. He knew that Darwin was not a clumsy man who would carelessly leave his office door open, especially considering the fact that he was hiding something. But then again, he never would have thought that Dragon would maneuver his security and enter his office at night, so it might also be possible that he felt safe enough not to lock his office door properly. Now that he had successfully gained entry into Darwin’s office, Dragon took his cell phone and dialed Bowman’s number.Bowman picked almost immediately, as though he had been waiting for Dragon’s call. Anyway, Dragon suspected that Bowman did not stick to the instruction of resting. Rather, he stayed awake and vigilant, waiting to hear from Dragon.“I have been able to get access into hi

  • Intrusion

Linnie called Darwin and waiting for him to pick up his call. She was calling because she wanted to make sure that she kept records with Darwin. Being the kind of man that he was, Linnie knew without a doubt that if there was a tiny chance that this could swing in her favor, by whichever means, then she would have to let him know what was going on.Darwin picked on the third ring.“What do you want?” He asked grudgingly without waiting for Linnie to say a word after the call connected.“It’s Luther,” Linnie reported. Well, if he wanted to continue being a rude asshole, then she might as well go right to the point. Linnie had no intentions of lingering on the call with him by the way.“What about him? Is he well?” Darwin asked, his voice softening a bit. It was obvious that he cared only about his son, which shouldn’t even come as a surprise to Linnie in the first place.“I think he is seeing Abby Golden,” Linnie reported firmly.“What makes you think that?” Darwin asked impatiently.

  • Wrong Answers

Linnie was fuming after Luther picked up Abby’s call and left their home. She could not believe the level of audacity and disrespect from him, and it was obvious that he did not care about the consequences of such actions. Linnie had been upset, especially with what happened between them, but she had seen it as an opportunity to get what she wanted. If Luther was cheating on her with Abby Golden, that would be grounds for a favorable divorce for Linnie, because she would leave the sham of a marriage with Luther’s share of the Kinkaid inheritance, and she would not have to worry about being poor and wretched for the rest of her life.More, she would not have to deal with Luther or his sick father, Darwin, and she would be free to fight for Laxus’s love, regardless of the fact that he was now married. So, Linnie had called Detective George and had asked him to trail Luther and keep an eye on him, and of course, bring back the one news that Linnie wanted to hear so badly. She hated Abby
