Chapter 3: The Result
last update2023-06-26 10:19:13

Smith stared at the doctor for a while, shocked and awestrucked by his disheartening revelation.

It wasn't had been disheartening if he was the owner of the unborn child in her.

He can't certainly be the father of the unborn child in her.

He could remember vividly that he'd never have sex with her before. They were just only husband and wife on signed paper. He sleeps on the floor while the wife, Georgina, sleep on the bed.

So how did she manage to get pregnant? Who's the father of the unborn child in her?

He couldn't ignore the pain that stung his heart as his nins reminisced on the questions he'd asked himself. Though she obviously doesn't love him, he couldn't believe she could cheat on me.

Wasn't she cheating?

The slight bang on the table brought him out of his world of thoughts. He blinked his eyes and turned to the doctor, who looked at him in confusion.

"What's wrong with you, Mr Smith?"the doctor, Lincoln, asked as he stared at Smith who was lost in thought.

"I'm fine. But please can I get the medical report? I mean the pregnancy results,"he said, and the doctor arched his eyebrows at him.

"May I know what you need it for?"the doctor asked, and he scoffed inwardly.

"I need to see it that's why I'm asking,"he banged his fist on the table which startled the doctor.

He breath out heavily as he tried to conceal the anger that seeped through him.

The doctor picked up the telephone on his table and punched some number hurriedly on it.

"Come to my office right now with miss Georgina pregnancy test result,"he said, hung up on the call and dropped the telephone on the table.

Smith played with his fingers as he await the presence of the nurse who'd been told to bring the pregnancy test result.

He can't wait to see the results. He need to confirm that she's pregnant in that way he would know if she's cheated on him.

He bit his lower lips as a knock landed at the door. "Come in,"the doctor hoarse voice came out, and a nurse walked in dressed in white hospital coat.

"Good morning sir. This is the file sir,"

"Drop it on the table and leave,"he ordered.

She bowed her head and walked away.

"I'm sure you must be surprised that she manage to get pregnant for someone like you after three years of marriage,"he said with his voice filled with sarcasm.

Though the word really hurted him, he choose to ignore it like he didn't hear it.

That's what he was forced to learn.

He'd grown up to believe that only the rich and influential people are supposed to be respected and regarded in the society.

"Can I have it?"he asked coldly.

Though the doctor was shocked by his question, he cleared his throat and said. "This is the file that you'd requested for,"

Smith smashed the paper from the doctor though he make sure it didn't tear.

PREGNANT TEST RESULT was written boldly at the front page of the papers he was holding.

His heart skipped at each line he read. Though he didn't understand much about medical terms but this is enough proof to prove to him that she's pregnant.

Tears build at the corner of his eyes as he confirmed it himself. He couldn't believe she could do such a thing to him. He loves her even though she doesn't love him. And he'd always believed that she's going to be his but this shows that she certainly can't love him.

Is it because he's poor? This question was so deep to him.

With shaking hand, he returned the papers back to the doctor. The doctor couldn't help but notice his poor looking expression turned gloomy all of a sudden.

"What's wrong with you, Mr Smith?"he turned his gaze to the doctor and sighed.

"I'm fine,"he replied coldly as he stood up from the chair.

"I'd doubt that because you don't look happy. Are you thinking of the money you'll use to celebrate the naming ceremony?"

"Madam Kate might be nice to help you since the baby is going to be her grandchild,"the doctor mocked him with a dry laughter.

Though the last statement hit him like a ton of bricks but he choose to ignore it since that was his problem at the moment.

He need to know how Georgina manage to get pregnant. Though they were married on papers but he deserve to know because he's her husband legally.

Smith clenched fist tightly, walked out of the office, and slammed the door with a loud bang.

He headed straight to her ward.

Getting to her ward, he reduced his fast and harsh pace when he heard a familiar voice in the room.

"Can't you see that I love you more than your garbage husband does?"

He gritted it his teeth as he heard the voice clearly. It was Edward Jones voice.

"I'm glad you know that I'm married to Smith so I'm not interested in having any relationship with you,"he heard her weak voice.

Her statement made him doubt the pregnancy test result that he'd to look at the paper in his left hand again.

He shoved it into his pocket.

"Why can't you leave him alone? There's nothing he has to…"

He barged in with an angry look on his face, interrupting Edward Jones.

Edward turned and scrutinized him closely. He couldn't hide how disgusted and angry he was by his presence.

Why can someone as beautiful as Georgina be the wife of a poor and wretched fellow like Smith? How unlucky.

However, he's here to claim her and no one is stopping him not even Smith.

Edward was dressed in an expensive black Armani suit which suited the black trouser he was putting on. His italian edition made shoe rocks. Everything about him smells of riches.

Smith gaze darkened as he stared at the beautiful bouquet that his wife was clinging to her chest like her life depended on it.

He couldn't help but feel jealous and sad knowing that Edward brought it for her.

He can't even afford to buy her such flower.

"Oh! He's here. The poor man who can't afford to feed his wife,"he said in a mockery tone.

"Smith,"Georgina called in a soft and sweet voice, a voice capable of melting thousand of hearts.

"Don't pay attention to him. Please try to accept me in your life and I promise to make you happy forever,"Edward said and leaned closer to her.

For a moment he forgot about the pregnancy results and got mad.

That fool even had the gut to confess his love for his wife in his presence. He was even afraid.

Maybe because he's poor, and there's nothing he can do to him.

"What are you doing with my wife, Mr Edward?"

Though he's still angry that she cheated on him, he can't allow anyone harrass her in his presence.

"And in what position are you to question me?"Edward didn't hide how angry he was.

How could this poor fellow ask him such question? If he tries to disturb him again, he won't hesitate to deal with him.

"I'm her husband so…"Smith voice suddenly trailed off as Edward laughed.

"Do you mean the husband that can't provide for his wife? I paid for her surgery, and she'll be recharged very soon,"

He was shocked to find out that Edward had paid before him. Then, why did the doctor collected the money from him?

Does that means that he was scammed?

He was sad that he was scammed. HeHow would he manage to pay the debt he's owing Mr Adam? And he can't possibly collect the money from the doctor.

He'd been slapped on the face again because he's poor.

He ignored the thought about the money and turned to Edward.

"I'd like you should excuse us because I want to have a word with my wife,"

He didn't forget to emphasize on the last word 'Wife'. He needed Edward to know his place.

"What! It's ridiculous for you to ask me to leave this place. If someone is supposed to leave then you should be the one,"he snarled

"Please excuse us,"Georgina said, and he smiled.

Smith thought she was actually talking to Edward until she said.

"Please excuse us, Smith. I want to have a talk with him,"she said, and he blinked his eyes unable to believe his ears.

She's sending him out for a rich guy , Edward.

"Huh?"his cold and hostile voice came out as a whisper because of the shock which overwhelmed him.

"She said you should leave. Do I need to call the guards to drive you out?"Edward asked, and he snorted at him.

"You'll pay for this,"he leaned closer to Edward and whisper to his ears.

He walked out of the ward in anger.

Though the threat felt meaningless to Edward, he felt somehow worried.

*

He sighed deeply as he came down from the black old and outdated bicycle. He parked it carefully at a safe spot in the parking lot.

He looked up and stared at the banner that was at the big and popular restaurant.

BIG SPICE was inscribed boldly on the banner that was at the top of the company banner.

His friend, Thompson, rushed over to him the moment he walked into the restaurant like he'd been expecting him.

"What's wrong?"he asked, and his friend hissed.

"I should be asking you that question. Where have you been?"he asked.

"I was busy sorting out something. What's the problem?" Smith could so tell that there's problem with the way his friend spoke.

"You should also find a way to sort yourself out before the boss because he's very angry,"

"I'd to cover up for you but Jackson had to ruin everything before the boss. Now, the boss wants to see you,"
