Smith swallowed hard the lump that formed in his throat as he walked into the big restaurant which wasn't occupied with many customers like it used to be.
He ignored the disdainful looks the customer threw at him. He can't take it to his heart since he's used to it anyways. He made his way toward his boss's office.
He took a deep breath as he stared at the wooden door of his boss, Mr Peter, before him.
He leaned closer to knock at the door but the loud voices coming from the office made him stop.
"I need money, dad,"
"What! But I thought I had sent some cash the last two days. So why are you asking me for money today?"
He shook his head with a sigh as he heard his boss daughter, Madelyn, in
the office. It's obvious that they're at it again.
"Because I've used it and I need it,"she replied nonchalantly.
"What do you take me for? As your money making machine?"
"I don't know, dad. What is the reason why you're working? It's because of me obviously so why are you being reluctant to give me money?"
"Because I worked hard to achieve this, and I can't let you ruin and make the restaurant go bankrupt,"
"Fine, I'll leave the money for only you to enjoy. Bye,"
Smith snapped out of his thoughts and looked up as the door pulled open with a loud creak sound.
Madelyn stormed out of her dad's office and bumped into him. She grunted out angrily as she turned to him.
"I'm sorry ma'am,"he apologized even though he's older than her, and she was the one that bumped into him.
"Are you blind? How dare you be a filthy being and piece of thrash like you collide with me?"she retorted and ran away.
He shook his head with a sigh and gulped down into nothing as his gaze landed at his boss, Mr Peter, who was standing in his office with his face fuming in anger.
"Good morning sir,"Smith greeted though he knew that was the last thing he was supposed to do.
Mr Peter snarled at him like a predator who's ready to feast on its prey.
"What's good about the morning, huh? Look at the time you're coming,"he shouted angrily.
He knows better than to keep quiet at that moment because he knows that his boss could use him to vent out his anger and frustration.
"I'm sorry sir,"he muttered with a sigh, his voice low and cracked.
His apology makes his boss angry and mad because he knows much loss he'd suffered just because of his absence in the restaurant.
"How dare you apologize after what I'd to pass through because of you, huh? I know how much lost that I'd suffered because of your foolishness,"
"Why do you've to affect me with your wretchedness?"he asked in an angry and cold tone.
He didn't hide the hatred he'd for him. Though he doesn't like Smith because of his appearance, he can't sack him because he's one of his best chefs.
His customer rate drops whenever he's not in the restaurant because most of them love eating his food.
Smith shook his head with a sigh as he listened to his boss' hateful words.
"Please forgive me. I promise it'll never happen again,"he pleaded continuously.
"You don't have to beg me because it's useless. You had make me lose large amount of money you can't make in your entire,"
"And I'll only pay you half of your salary as compensation,"Mr Peter said, and he gasped out in shock.
What!? Half of his salary? How would he survive the whole month? And most importantly, how would he pay the money he'd borrowed?
That's impossible. Though the salary wasn't much, he'd depended on it.
His mind was so disturbed that he'd forgotten that he was standing before his boss.
A bang on the table brought him out of his thoughts.
"I'm sorry, sir. Please punish me in another way but don't take half of my salary. I've depended on the salary,"
A glare from his boss made him stop from kneeling before him.
"You should have that before you decided not to come to work for two days,"
He bit the bottom of lips, trying to fight back the tears that formed at the corner of his eyes. He clenched fist with an angry look on his face.
How could he explain that he was planning to borrow money for his wife's surgery which already has been paid?
"But sir…"
"If you beg me again. I'll make sure you work for two months without getting paid,"he threatened.
Smith lowered his head and walked out of his office with a broken heart. He let out an exasperated sigh and leaned on the wall behind him.
*
"He's back,"
"Oh! Do you mean that shameless man?"
"I can't believe the boss spared him,"
"If I was the boss I would have sacked him because I wouldn't want him to affect me with his wretched lifestyle,"
Smith ignored the hateful and disdainful words he heard from the other chef's in the kitchen room. He wore a white apron and cap on his head, and pretended like he didn't hear anything.
Most of them were jealous of him since his food is the most demanded meal by the customers.
He whined in pain as the burning oil from his co-worker sprouted out from the saucepan which was caused by wreckless stirring. It burned his wrist.
He turned to Jackson, who smirked at him. He intentionally did it. Jackson doesn't like Ethan, and he's also jealous that he has a good friend like Thompson.
"You did that on purpose, right?"Thompson asked in a cold tone as he walked closer to Jackson.
Smith moved closer to him and held his shoulder.
"He should have seen it coming. I'm sure he isn't blind,"Jack replied nonchalantly.
"Maybe I should try to pour this hot on you also,"Thompson threatened, and he shivered in fear.
"You can't possibly do that,"Jackson shuddered in fear.
"Maybe you should dare me,"Thompson said as he walked closer to him.
"Leave him,"Smith interrupted because he knew how he used to be because of him.
Thompson doesn't look the way Smith is being criticized and crumpled on because he's so poor.
***
"Thank you sir,"Smith smiled happily as he counted the bill of dollars in his hand.
"You're welcome,"his boss replied and returned to his office.
He has gotten his wages for the week in one of the most popular restaurants, MCs Donald's, as a part time cleaner.
He stared at the dollar notes in hand for once again and his face beamed happily.
It would be enough to feed him for a few days and he'll be able to save from it.
He shoved the notes into his pocket and took the mop and bucket from the floor. He dropped it in the store room and walked out of the room.
*
He smiled sadly as he munched on the hamburger and cookie he bought from the road side.
It was a less expensive snack that didn't cost him a lot of money.
He was sitting on a long bench in a park.
He'd buy himself a snack because he wouldn't want to go on another hunger strike like last night. Just because he'd disagreement with them in the ward yesterday, Olivia ordered that he shouldn't be given any food.
Though it was their leftovers he used to eat, they made sure he didn't eat anything last night.
He knows he has to save money to repay his debt but he can't continue to starve himself.
He breathed out in relief after drinking a bottle of soda. He threw the empty bottle into the trash bin beside him.
He stood up from chair after cleaning his lips with his palm.
***
He took a deep breath as he walked into the white painted house.
The house wasn't as big as other people would have imagined because it was a family house that the late grandpa gifted them as a couple.
Madam took the mini mansion grandpa gifted the house and gave them this small house instead claiming that it's wasting resources.
He smiled as the rose mixed lavender scent of his wife, Georgina, hit his nose from their room.
He let out an exasperated sigh as he walked into their room. He stared at for a while, she was seated on the bed operating her iphone which is the latest iphone brand. He didn't bother to greet her since they don't interact in the house.
He slumped hard on the couch with the thought of paying the debts disturbing his mind.
"Welcome,"
Huh? He blinked his eyes continually, shocked and awestruck by her statement.
Did she just greet him? It's really surprising to him because she hasn't acted that way with him.
"Thanks,"he muttered, still shocked.
He was still lost in thoughts and shock when his sweet and melodious voice brought him out of his thoughts.
"What happened to your wrist?"he turned his gaze to his wrist which was bandaged and to her face.
"I was burnt by…"she interrupted him abruptly.
"Oh! Do you mind if I massage your wrist?"she asked, and a soft gasp escaped from his lips even though he tried to stop it.

“The Ember Scales dragon spirit fruits,” the spirit beast muttered in a low tone as he stared at the spirit in Smith's hand. “How did you get this fruit?” The spirit beast asked in a low tone as he stared at Smith curiously. Smith, who was trying to buy time so he could recuperate and fight back with his last strength, looked up with a fierce and unyielding look on his face. “It was simple. I got it from the trio dragons,” Smith said and the spirit beast looked up instantly.“They must have given the fruits to you willingly because there is no way you could defeat them with their combined strength.”“I, myself, am wary of them because of their energy. What have you done to make them give you those fruits and not me?” The spirit beast asked in a jealous tone as he stared at Smith contemptuously. “I earned it and it was simple. I can tell you the tricks but you don't deserve to know,” Smith said in a calm tone despite feeling excruciating pain burned through his veins. “You’d bette

The Golden box had an ancient crescent moon design on it. “That box must hold a lot of resources,” he thought to himself as he walked towards the mountain. Just as he attempted to near the tall mountain, he was repelled by a strong force that was filled with enormous dark energy. “This is bad,” he thought to himself and shook his head with a sigh as he staggered back to his feet and stared at the tall mountain before him. “How dare you go close to the BloodFall Sacred Mountain

For whatever reason, Smith felt connected to the dragons in a way that he couldn't explain. “You're doing well,” he said with a cold smile on his face. The two dead that just got revived elevated from the floor and flapped their wings graciously. They flew around Smith happily and gratefully. Smith felt fulfilled and satisfied with their presence. He stayed with the dragon for a while and they had quite a fun time together. He left the midst of the dragons that were surrounding him protectively. Chapter 272: Ember Scales Of The Dragon Fruit 2
The enchanted forest stood a magnificent tree unlike any other. Its towering trunk was thick and gnarled, its sprawling branches covered in shimmering emerald leaves that glowed faintly under the moonlight. This was the Dragon’s Bounty, a tree of legend, said to bear the rarest of fruits—twin dragon fruits, each a marvel of nature. These fruits, known as the Ember Scales also known as the Dragon Fruit, resembled the hide of a slumbering dragon. Their outer skin was layered with hardened, overlapping scales in deep crimson and fiery gold, glistening as if embers pulsed beneath. The scales were tough to the touch, yet when peeled away, they revealed a luscious, glowing core of translucent nectar. The fruit’s flesh, infused with the energy of the tree’s ancient magic, shimmered like molten amber, releasing a sweet, intoxicating aroma that carried hints of wild honey and exotic spices.Legends spoke of those fortunate enough to taste the Ember Scales, claiming the fruit granted temporary

After they were done repelling the thunder that was directed at them, they looked around cautiously and vigilantly. Only Smith seemed calm and indifferent. “Is this tree trying to play with us?” The finely dressed young man asked with a cold look on his face. “I don't know either,” the young lady replied with a frown as she looked around with a cold look on her face. “See! Look at those creatures!” The bearded man yelled out and pointed at the mountain behind the vibrant tree. They arched their eyebrows as their gases landed on some creature in huge numbers that appeared mysteriously and stood before the tree protectively before turning to them. Those creatures had legs and hands just like humans but what they lacked was life. Their eyes were devoid of life. “This must be a puppet that is set up to protect this ancient tree,” the young lady said and they nodded their heads in agreement. “Hey. Come closer to us if you don't want to die,” the young lady added as she turned to gla

“Hello, you all.” “As you can see, you are all grouped with four people each in different places. Chapter 269: A Living Dead
Before Smith was drawn into the dark vortex, he couldn't help but wonder why Sandra was acting strangely. He asked himself but he couldn't get an answer. However, he didn't doubt her. The force that came upon him from the vortex void in the space was so that he could barely move his body until he was dragged into the void which seemed bottomless and dark. Alvin, who noticed what had happened, smirked wickedly after realising that Smith was alone and Sandra wasn't going to come with them just like she told Elder Steve. He has gotten a better chance to eliminate Smith. “What's your name called? I didn't bother to ask but I have marked your face. I will make sure you die a painful and regretful death. In the next life, you won't dare cross a member of the Bloodling clan.”“And as for you, I will as
