Chapter 6

CHAPTER SIX

Turning around, Owen found Mia standing behind him with a questioning look, and he could already guess why she was here.

"Hey, what's up?" Owen questioned, trying to act normal.

"Don't give me that, Owen. What just happened?" Mia questioned with raised eyebrows.

"What do you mean?" Owen responded with a question, trying to act dumb.

"Come on, Owen, you know what i am talking about." Mia let out a sigh and facepalmed.

"Oh, you mean what happened earlier with the customer?" Owen inquired, scratching his curly black hair like he was trying to recall.

"Yeah, that. How were you able to pay such huge amount of money?" Mia questioned, still shocked by what happened earlier.

She has known Owen for quite a while now and know most things about him. The duo has spent lots of times together, both good times and bad times and never for once has she seen Owen the way he was earlier.

Owen did borrowed few dollars from her in the past to buy himself food, and all of a sudden he's here throwing out hundreds of dollars like it was nothing at all.

"Chill out, the money wasn't that much. And don't forget who i am married to, such amount is just a drop in the bucket compared to what the Steele's family has." Owen denied with a calm expression to make it look like the truth.

Mia didn't see any more reason to push forward with question, she assumed Owen is already in good terms with his in-laws and is now getting few shares from their company.

"Thank you, Owen." Mia bowed her head and appreciated. "If you hadn't intervened i wonder what would have happened to me."

"Ah, no, it's fine." Owen was tuly uncomfortable with Mia bowing down to him, so he quickly raised her head up.

"By the way, why are you here? I don't remember you being a night shift worker." Mia questioned with a look of suspicion.

Owen began to laugh out nervously.

"Ah, yes. I won't be around tomorrow so i just thought it would be best to work double shifts today so i can get an off tomorrow." Owen spoke with a nervous smile.

Mia glanced at his face suspiciously before responding.

"You could have just demanded for a leave from boss instead of over stressing yourself." Mia uttered with a worrisome look.

"It's fine, haha. I doubt if boss would grant me a leave..you are well aware of how he hates me." Owen remarked, trying his best to hide his nervous expression.

The duo chatted there for few more minutes before the manager of the restaurant came in and scolded them to get to work.

Somewhere in the city of Purple Hills, a luxurious mansion could be seen standing tall in the night.

Inside the mansion, a middle aged woman dressed in a black robe could be seen pacing back and forth feeling restless and was visibly sweating buckets full. Even the robe she wore was now drenched in sweat.

"This is the seventh call i have reveived so far this month concerning loss for the company." Tamara, Owen's stepmother, mumbled to herself after receiving a call from the company's accountant.

Ever since she snatched the company away from Owen, the company has been facing nothing but loss. Day in and day out, a huge amount of money drops from the company's account, and the workers and investors of the company were starting doubt Tamara.

"This is starting to piss me off. Could it be that the workers are stealing the money? Or i am just managing the company badly."

Tamara couldn't quite her fingers around what was happening, and with the way things are going she was sure the company would go bankrupt and eventually run down.

"I have to figure out a way to bounce back. Maybe i should attend the Echelon meeting tomorrow. If i can secure a partnership with Echelon company, the company would surely bounce back." An idea struck Tamara and a grin formed on her face.

Footsteps could be heard as a figure began to approach Tamara from behind.

"Mother, you are still awake?" Daniel, Tamara's son questioned with his voice filled with concern as he approached his mother who was currently lost in thoughts.

"I just came here to make few calls and clear my head. Go back to bed, Daniel." Tamara remarked with a smile.

"Are you sure everything is okay? Is there a problem at the company?" Daniel inquired. The worried look on his mother's face was too obvious to ignore.

"No problem, Daniel. Everything is all good." Tamara answered back with a smile. Daniel gave a nod before attempting to head back to his room but his mother's words stopped him.

"I would be heading to Echelon Industries tomorow afternoon and i would like you to accompany me. Who knows, you might a decent job there." Tamara informed.

"Why will you be going to Echelon Industries tomorrow? Are you sure everything is okay? Cause i heard the companies who rush to Echelon Industries are companies at the verge of collapsing and now seeking for a partnership as a redemption." Daniel voiced with raised eyebrows as he could suspect his mother was hiding something.

Tamara has always hid the company's affairs from Daniel to avoid worying him. Even when the company is at the verge of going bankrupt, she still chose to keep it a secret from him.

"Everything is good, Daniel. Like i told you, there is nothing to worry about. I just need a partnership to boost our sales and make us exposed to new clients. So, there's really nothing to be worried about." Tamara assured while rubbing Daniel's cheek.

Daniel chose to believe his mother's words and quit asking questions. He gave Tamara a nod before walking back to his room and now leaving Tamara with her thoughts.

'I just hope things work out smoothly tomorow and the Ceo of Echelon Industries finds me worthy.' Tamara prayed internally.
